Given big bonus 1HKO, could rainbow S depend on total ending crystals? Friend beat below time and netted S only and 75% is a big bonus vs tediously collecting all crystals.

Ending crystals is definitely the deciding factor. If I did everything I did here, but with only OHKO and no potions, my bonus would be 165% (50%+115%). That's only 10% less than here, but would result in me getting a normal S instead of Rainbow S. So at minimum, you need OHKO and another Brave Stone to qualify.

If your friend was using the Time Brave Stone which requires you to beat the par time of the stage, and he didn't, then the bonus won't count. An alternative without being constrained by time is to use the Brave stone that starts you at 0 stocks. Since you can't get hit anyways as you will be KO'd, and being KO'd reduces your score already, then using the combination of 1 Hit KO and No stocks is a good way to get Rainbow S Ranks.

Completing levels with the two Brave Stones featured in the video (One Hit KO and Time Limit) without dying seem to fairly consistently get it.

T_T so basically, somewhat do the same thing as the regular S rank then, but get the regular one first
