For some reason I find this version very dark, I fucking love it! I feel like Kurt really poured his heart out at this performance, he was probably really tired of singing this song over and over in every concert. I have been a Nirvana fan for as long as I can remember and I know that “comes as you are” as well as “smell like teen spirit” are Nirvana anthems however there is SO much more to Nirvana than just these two songs.. I feel Kurt was sick and tired of them already.

Now to address your response, you are taking a defensive position neglecting some very troll behavior Kurt conducted in. Some examples are the tuning of the E string to no note, and proceeding to perform come as you are screaming at the top of his lungs to purposely tuin the performance. Then we go to the famous extra low Smells Like Teen Spirit performance with the manaqin hand on the guitar and the Load up on drugs lyrics which was a reaponse to being asked to pretend to perform while singing live. Another example is playing the first chord of Rape Me before performing Lithium at the 92 MTV video music awards in response to being told not to play the song. We can go a little further and point out the night they played Terrirorual Pissings on TV instead of the network agreed song, just because. It's troll behavior, and he innovated it because he was the first mainstream musician to get away with that type of trolling and do it on national tv numerous times. A troll indeed but a troll who trolled the system which deserves major props. A hipster not in the sense of purposely going out of his way yo be different, but by being different in his dressing style and many other aspects was universally copied by all sorts of people and bands that followed.
