This is great. It really showcases the "Teflon" power of the melody. Kurt Cobain was a top notch melody writer, he really had an ear for arranging "simple" chords and notes into devilishly clever little melodic hooks. Melody is so painfully neglected in contemporary pop music. With hip hop there is rarely ever melodic variation, often there is no melody at all, just two or three notes over and over and over. Usually, any decent melody is paired with terrible lyrics about fucking or some other narcissistic, inane or fatuous bullshit.

I think Kurt was self taught. The former usually just create without thinking too much about music theory while the latter think too much in music theory, even the Jazz musicians are guilty.

I think it's great but intro... You play major/minor chords and it doesn't sound well. It should be play on 5ths like the rest of piece. Giving 3rds shows specific character (you say "it is major" or "it is minor") which doesn't fit there. But it may be only mine opinion :)
