While I see your point with side 2 of Nevermind I feel that each song on that side brings something new to the table with Territorial pissings bringing the energy back after Polly, Drain You’s jam in the middle and really everything about that song just being the best. Lounge act being slightly slower and allowing Krist to show off his bass playing for really the only time in the record (with the bass being a bigger focus not just on bass work) Stay away bring the energy back up and on a plain with its drop D riff and bass line just making it a fun song to listen to and play to which also helps with the contrast of something in the way to close out the record. Now this could all be because of my bias growing up in Seattle listening to these songs since I can remember but still I think that side 2 of Nevermind is very good and is better then side 1.

Ten is just such a well written album with incredible musicianship, considering it was pearljams first album is incredible, within a week of eddie being in the band and flying down to seattle they were playing they're first gig, its just mind boggling how fast they came together and how well written the songs were, nirvana though great just didn't have the magic pearl jam captured on ten, so many master pieces on 10, nirvana has great songs but alot of pretty average ones, the only dud on ten is oceans, pearljam hands down

From a technical standpoint, Ten may score higher with the wider musical inputs (which also results from more band members and hence instruments) as well as higher production values... but oddly enough, that may be exactly why Nevermind may endear more to people who preferred its more in your face and raw approach. For me picking which one I like better has always come down to the lyrics and the emotions of the songs. Lyrically I always found the songs on Nevermind all over the place and not still can’t tell what half the songs are about, or can even make my own interpretation because a verse here doesn’t really go with the next verse or the chorus. Nevermind nailed the choruses, but the versus didn’t always make a whole lot of sense. I never found much emotion in Kurt’s singing. It was like okay you have a great growl and croon, but they aren’t based off anything lyrically. Ten on the other hand’s lyrics tell stories and can still be interpreted by the listener to mean different things. The songs also have great choruses. The verses go along with the chorus and the songs make more sense. Emotionally I always felt and still feel Ed puts his heart and soul into what he’s singing. Ed had the advantage of a better vocal range which he used to perfection on Ten. From the crooning to the screams and growls. Ed’s voice is almost like another instrument on Ten. For those reasons I’ve always preferred Ten. But no listener can go wrong with either, and for those of us old enough, who great was that time in music? I mean I don’t even think I realized how special it was till years later looking back. Great video

I literally listen to these albums weekly. It's incredibly hard to pick one over the other. I do however feel more emotionally connected to some if the songs in Ten though especially Black. Nevermind however has the nostalgia factor for me and I love all of the hit songs from it. In bloom just pumps you up and Come as You Are just puts you in a different world in the right circumstances... both phenomenal albums though. Loved the vid, you should totally do a versus again (maybe with Dirt and Super Unkown even). keep up the good work man!

For me, it is no contest. Nevermind. I’ve listened to that album thousands of times since I first bought it 22 years ago. It never gets old. The songs are so simple and catchy, and the lyrics are awesome and unforgettable. Every time I hear the songs it makes me happy and want to play my guitar and I feel like a teenager again. There is so much nostalgia with Nevermind. Not as much with Ten. I always loved Nirvana more than Pearl Jam. Nevermind is very well produced. It has the iconic and controversial baby cover and the inside picture of Kurt giving us the middle finger. I really like Ten, but Nevermind just has that sound that I love and crave; fuzzy distortion and Kurt Cobain’s vocals. So Nevermind Ten, listen to Nevermind.

Though Nevermind did change the music world in the 90s by bringing that DIY, Punk attitude back into the music like how Ramones did it in '76 by bringing that garage rock feel, Pearl Jam definitely has that Classic Rock sound that was really missing in the era of C+C Music Factory, Vanilla Ice and other Dance-Pop, Hair Metal, Pop-Rap acts at the time... besides the Black Crowes.

I think that Ten wins in the most important and defining things in my opinion. Cover art(c'mon, that is just least important ). Production-(maybe tie, but i would say Ten had more, pure, natural and not overproduced record) . Best songs? Ten has that diversity of songs(but again incredibly fluent and yet complex album, wich Nevermind doesn't have)... There's different mood on Ten, not for a second, a glimpse of monotony and again for an album to achieve that every song is incredibly solid and great, technically, melodically, lyrically is extremly hard. Songs that are standing very independently from each other but again they are creating album wich is like one living organism. It's just outstanding, Ten does that perfectly. Lirically, musically, melodically, technically, craft wise then the complexity of melodies, sophistication in creating melodies , Eddie's unparalleld voice, that range and emotion, open wound feel to it, and exposed nerve way of expressing, and than, that vocal melodies that he sings trough the melodie of the song. That is just another level. It is just brilliant... I disagree with your choice of a best song(but i respect your opinion). I will take Jeremy for example, (and i could do that with any other song on that album) : that minor major minor modulation in Jeremy, the dissonance.. What a way to create tensicity and then release in that chorus, that is just so out of the box, ground breaking, new, against everything you know about music and smart. I've never heard that before, never. That song alone, creates new standards.I can't still get over how sophisticated, complex and layered that song is(and that goes more or less for almost every song on that album). But in the end, the Eddie's singing in that one, intervalic, then arpeggios, octave jumps,. Between "pools of maroon below" and " daddy didn't.." there is an octave jump in singing , an whole octave jump. To name 5 songs that have that is very hard(before auto tune, after auto tune,it doesn't matter, because there are no such songs). It's intervallically and rythmicly unbelievably sofisticated song. The intervallic singing it's hard to do in short period , but trough out the whole song, it's ridiculous.... and how all of that makes you feel.. how it goes trough you..how it's capturing you... Overall, their ability as musicians and artists are on a very high level, another level. I agree with your statement about copying melodies for solo. Not that i think that's lame or wrong, i just think that you can't compare it to a creation of one incredible solo, that fits perfectly, from nothing, and then having it to melt someone's face. You just can't. I think that there are other things to take into consideration. For example, this was Nirvana's second album and Pearl Jam's debut album. They literally created album from two times of Eddie coming to Seattle one week a the time, then recorded album after couple of months, wich tells a lot about their talent, energy, artistry, and conection that they had between them.. For me that it's incredible achievement if you think about it. It is always going to be Ten for me (Nevermind is good album don't get me wrong). Ten, in my opinion, is an artistry in most pure chemical musical form. That band did it from their first try. It is so honest, natural and pure. I don't think any band will ever do that again. Cover art, auto tune, even production and videos, all that, can do a wonders for so called musicians today but i think something else matters more. Ten is the album that happened once in specific time and space with unbelievably gifted people whose out of the box talent, sofistication, energy and pain collided in the same moment. They created, then played that songs in right, ingenious way. TEN is the one. It's a pure wizardry.

You are so right. One of Eddie's best lyrical performances. Release never gets old. Still so powerful. Just trying listening to it at night, lying in bed, lights out, as the last song before you go to sleep. Such a powerfully moving emotion it stirs up.

I liked this versus style video. Do more of them. Possible suggestions: A Zeppelin album vs. a Sabbath album. (Pick whatever ones you want) Nevermind the Bullocks vs. London Calling Exile on Main Street vs. Who's Next. (I know it should be Stones vs. Beatles, but we all know how that one ends up) Master of Puppets vs. Appettite for Destruction. (Hey, they (in)famously toured together - so put them up against each other). At Budokan vs. [another big live album]

idea for a follow up "post-grunge" vid would be something like Smashing Pumpkins Mellon Collie vs Bush or (enter post 94' alt rock album here). This is silly but would be great premise. or 90's TOOL vs (enter mid 90s metal/prog band here) . fun vid. keep it up!

The real question to me is Dirt vs. Badmotorfinger, and I'm torn. Nevermind and Ten are both great in their own way too (though I slightly prefer Ten - better musicianship and just as much feeling, but not of the "teen angst" variety that I was already sick of when I was that age).

I feel the same way about Dirt and Facelift..Alice in chains were brilliant, I connected to them and still do at 48. Bleach I feel way a better album than nevermind. I love Nirvana's old stuff better. In utero is a masterpiece as far as I'm concerned. Back when I was a teen my mates and I would argue about who was better, but today I appreciate all the bands from Seattle. I did see Alice in chains live so I'm still happy about that...and STP, and Bush. Bush were great back then.👍🏻💯 Cheers mate..be cool🙏🏻

Nirvana, Pearl Jam and Alice in Chains were my go-to's growing up, and I've never listened to Nirvana again after '99. I think more attachment is made by people, to the idea of Nirvana and its tragic events, than is made to the content and quality of its music. To me, Nirvana lacked the sustain of character much like a lot of Local H and other fade away bands. You did a great breakdown, fair and true, would love to see more of them.

Really love both albums! I do also agree that Nevermind is the better Album but not just because it's the more iconic and arguably more well known album, but also cause it's in my opinion the more artistically significant Album. It really captures the Zeitgeist and spirit of these types of music. By that I mean Bands that came out of the Grunge/Underground Rock scene. But I also love Ten. A album that also is a rollercoaster. Both really are simply must listen albums.

I have to choose Ten. Why? so I am a guitarist of almost 8 years and is pretty happy about where I’m at with guitar today. But back when I was like 6, me and my dad got this game called Rocksmith (Guitar Hero on an actual guitar). We found a song on the game called Alive (from Pearl Jam’s Ten), and even tho I sucked at guitar, I loved the song. Dad got me into School of Rock (the program) and I was loving it then, and still loving it now. Fast forward into my years of being in School of Rock, we play this grunge show. But before the show, my instructor said that there was a grunge legend coming to the show. I immediately knew it was someone from Pearl Jam, AIC were on tour, Soundgarden was disbanded, and Nirvana was disbanded. Which left Pearl Jam. Fast forward to the show, fucking Mike McCready showed up. We soundchecked Alive (one of the songs we were playing the show) and we asked him to join us in playing (after all, it is his song). He was bragging about playing the song 6 million times. Guess what, he messes up. He messes up his own song in front of a bunch of kids, after bragging about playing the song 6 million times. It was so funny. That man changed my life, before meeting him, and after meeting him.

which one is better musically speaking.... Ten no doubt in my mind. Which one is most important, relevant and for sure change history Nevermind. Is not even fair to put these 2 in a competition as both are very relevant in the history of Rock music. As I told somebody, Nevermind and Nirvana came to restore the order of music in an age where bad pop music was taking the crown (ehm ehm 2022), Nevermind for sure change the history of Music and there are few bands/albums who can claim this......

Haha great video man. I was 15 when they came out. Nevermind had a much more dramatic cultural effect, as well as it’s effect on the music industry at the time. Nevermind had more street credibility. I noticed that more together middle class kids often (not always) preferred Pearl Jams Ten. I’m glad the weighing erred towards Nevermind. As a new release it was ferocious, heavy and deep yet sublime in its power. The brilliant production fascinated me and the guitar playing was tight, focused and had elements that were so interesting. Kurts song writing was incredibly inspiring and his lyrical approach was really post modern and cool. Nevermind didn’t necessarily sell more than Ten, rather it (along with Blood Sugar Sex Magic) swept across the world like a fire, it caught on very very fast and opened things for the other bands to have so much success. It’s kind of impossible to appreciate what the album did coming out, how it grew so big within about one month. It’s something that one has to witness and experience. How an album can kind of set fire across the world. Really enjoyed this video man

Both of these albums are legendary and for good reason. For me it all comes down to "Nevermind" being an album that took rock in a whole new way and "Ten" being an album that really mastered what rock was at that time. I'm no music critic but that's the way I've always seen it but since I can't really choose a verdict of the two I'll have to give it to Nevermind personally due solely to Nirvana being my favorite band of all time.

Only pop culture stupidity says Nevermind is better: all honest people Know in fact TEN is easily the better. The only thing Nirvana was better at is being jealous of other artists. Not only is TEN better, but also their "VS," plus Sound Gardens' "Superunknown," Stone Temple Pilots' "Core" and "Purple," Smashing Pumpkins' "Siamese Dream" and "Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness" were all better. Nirvana only wins because just as The Beatles are thought of the Goat, pop culture stupidity must also claim Nirvana and/or their Nevermind as the best. This video started with "only the music" will be judged then goes on to judge the album covers. Ten is much superior musically. PS: Pearl Jam even excluded an amazing song, "Yellow Ledbetter," from TEN because they thought TEN already had so many amazing songs. This dude only said Nevermind because he feels he has to, just as he would say the 1960s One Direction are the goat.
