@Cherry-pu4mx
@Cherry-pu4mx 9 ай бұрын
@@finna1002 About a girl still had a raw sound, but yes it incorporated pop melodies/riffs. An older song, love buzz, did the same. Those songs weren't attempts to enter the pop industry though, rather they were meant to draw a small audience to them while still allowing the band to enjoy their punk rock style and heavy metal influences. The band has always had pop hooks. You could think of sliver as nirvanas double downing on the pop melodies and adding studio polishing to their sound with the intent of actually entering the pop industry.
@finna1002

@@Cherry-pu4mx Kurt created about a girl to break the mold and try to invade the pop music at the time. Much cleaner sound than any of the other songs, and way more catchy
@Cherry-pu4mx
@Cherry-pu4mx 9 ай бұрын
@@finna1002 About a girl attempted to experiment more with pop sounds. There was no intention of hitting the pop charts. Kurt actually fealt nervous by the release of, "about a girl" because it deviated more from his punk rock style. The reason he was experimenting with pop is because he knew that it drew in audiences. He never wanted the massive audience he ended up receiving, but wanted an audience nonetheless. The track was raw, not overly produced like sliver or the tracks on nevermind. The session to record all the songs on bleach took 30 hours in 2-3 takes. Sliver was the track that pivoted the band into the pop charts because of the amount of polishing and further emphasis on pop melodies and rifts. This was kurts baby to decide whether or not the band should go full pop. This is more clear when you realise tht sliver was released as a non-album single.

I see lots of comments about how the lyrics are silly/simplistic, but it's actually quite impressive to create such an authentic voice/POV of a young child. Idk exactly why this song always hits me so hard...I guess it's because Kurt just actually transports me back to being a small child and the way it FELT. I always choke up and my eyes well with tears at the line "woke up in my mother's arms." Like I'm smiling, too. It's not sadness but just this huge rush of raw emotion.

bro this has remained one of my fav songs since i was a kid, and not just for its silly tone, but because it resonated with me. my fam barely had enough money, living in the suburbs of seattle, so my parents were constantly working, and i ended up being pretty much raised by my grandparents. there’s a lot of crazy stuff that’s happened in my childhood - between my mom and i, being an illegal resident of canada, living in a car on the road, living in a friend’s house, etc, but the fact that i resonated with this song in this sense since a young age says something i think.

Others may find the lyrics shallow and simply written, but I think it's clever. For me, this is a POV of a kid with nonexistent parents and was always left with someone else to take care of them (in this case, the grandma). In that sense, the words doesn't have to be too articulate. It's simple, realistic, and behind the happy tunes, lies the a sad truth that's happening to most kids. My interpretation only. I think this song has a meaning “Mom and dad went to a show, they dropped me off at grandpa joes”- Parents dripped Kurt off at his grandparents while they went off. Grandma take me home” he wants to go home to mom and dad. He then stays with his grandparents for a while. “I woke up in my mother’s arms” he was back with his parents and he is still saying “grandma take me home” he now considers his grandparents “home”

pretty sure it's about his childhood, he moved around a lot and didn't feel like he belonged anywhere and this song is like his need for a space where he belongs and is accepted (im not sure just my interpretation)

Nirvana’s videos are so simple, yet better than most all of music videos to this day. Put so much effort into replicating the picture exactly how he saw it in his head and nowadays a video can barely put a coherent picture of a concept together. This man was so smart

without even trying this song is so deep and relatable on so many levels, its really about the absolute chaos of being a child, wanting safety, and having no control at a young age over your life. a formerly sensitive child knows exactly the scenario he is describing in this song. its seemingly funny but so amazingly universal at the same time. we all just want safety and love!

개비정한세상 sad part is that this is a true story.His parents left him at his grandparents for like 2 months They picked him up and that is one of the reasons he hated his parents.Not because he was crazy.I think his parents were probably not as good and that’s why he had such a horrible childhood

@@LilChay the trashy side of Washingtonian families is directly reflected in how his parents treated him through childhood. especially in in the town where he grew up. it's why there are so many disenchanted hipsters in the northwest who claim the family institution is bullshit. it's not actually bullshit, but the attitude stems from the betrayal people felt in their youth by adults who probably shouldn't be raising children.
