It's always so funny when the teachers say: "muting the strings - it takes only some time!". As an intermediate guitar player I can say, every technique not only takes time, but hours of struggling, frustration, feeling stupid, feeling like an idiot comparing yourself with others and sometimes even physical pain :D. It requires dedication, energy, consistency and coping with your impatience.. And then, eventually... you learn stuff faster then you thought. :) but the beginning is terrible..:) It's not "time", learning instrument and music is often hard work, but extremely rewarding and once you learned something, you have it in your blood and it's only fun. Keep practicing, people!

To anyone struggling with this I feel your pain, muting the strings was impossible at first when I finally started getting the hang of it the B string was always a bit fretted It took some time to figure out but I found the position in which my hand mutes em all so when you're switching the power chords up and down I place my middle finger on the lower E string to mute it it's my way but I find it easier than avoiding the string, so the play mute play rhythm was annoying too but just keep practicing and listen to the song as much as you can especially if you're just about to practice you don't need to listen to the entire thing just the first 15-20 seconds get that rhythm into your head and best of luck enjoy rocking out \m/

I'm visually impaired so having the Visual representation isn't the most useful, whereas if someone is telling me where to put my fingers audibly (i.e index on the 3rd fret barring, and the ring, middle and pinky in an E shape on the 4th and 5th frets) it's a lot easier.

Only one thing: I guess there often are open strings between a power chord and another. For example, to me it's pretty clear between the Bb5 and the Ab5, and then between the Db5 and the F5 Kurt Cobain played 2 open strings to give him more time to reach the following chord. Sense he quit I’ve been very upset about him quitting like that because I wanted to make him proud and I went and did, I didn’t disappoint. He would put your videos on and recommend a lot of them. Although I’m upset he would’ve wanted me to keep going if that’s what I wanted because he said it himself “if you really wanna make this a thing in your life then do so don’t let anyone stop you for doing what you love” I replied back “I don’t give a f#€k about what others think, it’s what I want”. This comment is getting pretty long so lemme just end it, he wanted me to keep going and I will keep going because he gave me hope, dreams and courage, pride all those things and now I’ll make damn sure that I live on those dreams of mine at least once in my life Coming from a 7th grader in middle school ~Eddie P.S. keep doing what your doing Marty, I really look forward to learning from you

Juan Rivas I have baby hands as well, and it doesn't bother me at all. Sounds like you need to stretch

Should I buy an acoustic or electric guitar? I'm completely new and just want to learn some cool music. I'm into rock.
@AndrejNikolov-xw2gi6 жыл бұрын
Yeah but you see.. I'm 16. And my parents are saying "We shouldn't get a guitar" "You should have started earlier" something like that shit. I don't want to become a guitarist by profession, I just want to play some cool guitar riffs by watching youtube videos and experimenting. So.. What should I do now?
@catStone926 жыл бұрын
Andrej Nikolov get a part time to buy the guitar yourself, or something like that. They cant very well complain if youve earned it
@kxloux84666 жыл бұрын
RidoxWuzHere KZbin dude stop telling him to get the most expensive guitars. you clearly know nothing. Electric is easier as it has a thinner neck, and id recommend getting an ibanez gio or something like that. Id still recommend startinh on acoustic as its more difficult and will strengthen your fingers greatly. And Orange Tanglewood acoustic is cheap and sounds just like a Taylor
@crimson17186 жыл бұрын
Get an electric guitar , dude. You'll thank me later.
@rodddrake6 жыл бұрын
Electric is easier to play. Softer action. But an acoustic will be more satisfying long term.

I've been playing guitar off and on for the last 10 years or so but was too intimidated by a lot of my favorite songs for fear it'll take too long to learn if at all. I've started really learning tabs and playing in different tunings and I'm finding that many of my favorite songs aren't as hard as I thought and super fun to learn and with the improvement over the years I'm more confident when tackling songs I never tried before. I'll have this down by the weekend. Love the chicky chickies lol

Try Keeping your first finger on the top string. Bar the top two strings on the second and fourth power chords. You’ll hear that classic teen spirit sound, that’s how Dave Grohl plays it

What helps me get the rhythm down before actually playing the song and learning the chords, I try to match the rhythm with my drums and then go from there when I’m comfortable enough with the rhythm
