If it wasn't for Nirvana I wouldn't have bought the Wipers LP land of the lost back in 1995....They are now in my top 5 favorite bands ever. Thank you Kurt Cobain for showing us what real music is.

Is This Real? Is such an incredible album. Everyone points to the Melvins and Black Sabbath and The Beatles. But The Wipers are the closest thing I've heard to proto Nirvana. Greg Sage and Kurt Cobain were kindred writers. They had very similar touches to their music.

I think it's more accurate to say that while Kurt wanted Nirvana to have it's own sound, the majority of the template and pattern or the rhythm and structure of that sound and to some degree even the sound itself came from the Wipers. I think Nirvana also took a lot of inspiration from the Melvins and the Pixies but I would agree with you in saying that the largest chunk came from the Wipers!

lil bit of wipers, lil bit of pixies, lil bit of dinosaur jr, lil bit of melvins -- Kurt Cobain had impeccable taste for someone who lived in the sticks

The Wipers and Greg Sage were very, very intense. Very emotional. The Herd is one of my favorite albums.

Wipers are one of the most incredible bands of the 80's that should have had way more attention. Greg Sage as a frontman and unbelievable guitarist blew my mind when i first heard there music. The influence that band have had is so important to the great bands that probably started and wanted to be in a band to because of them. So little about them on KZbin apart from one or two interviews with Greg and some live performances that are unbelievable.

It was the Fourteen Songs For Greg Sage and the Wipers that exposed me to their music. I actually wish it was living in the Portland area or going to the Satrycon.

@TheWshadows damn GOOD.. but one thing... you don't need to Study Music to do your best.. like Kurt used to say... "Just Passion".. thats it.. But go a head.. you could be great like Butch, find other NIRVANA (hard hard...)
