Jay-Z said, "Kurt Cobain almost killed hip hop with smells like teen spirit". Therefore, I had to check it out. Nirvana took me to soundgarden/audioslave and then to pearl jam and stone temple pilots. Finally stumbling across Man in the box by Alice 'n' Chains. Nirvana doesn't have a song I don't like. Then again neither does Alice 'n' Chains.💋❣💋❣💋❣ I haven't looked back since. finally music that doesn't call me and my 4 daughters bitchez and hoes, like all day! music with a much deeper message. songs may be dark, but they are true raw human shit that everyone can relate to.

Clamatris McCoy , great comment. ..and def.agreed. [Maybe a little bias cause A.inC. is my fav.band, but that's one a the reasons I like 'em ,cause they were always so pure, real, and full of things that catch the human sensibility & emotion. No female hate either(no hate of any kind, really...which is also , as u said, a good reason to like Nirvana). To be honest, most of the 1990s "grunge" - type rock, shows little hate towards anyone, but just a dislike towards those that are ruining the World if anything and a stick it to the man type attitude, but it's so real, & so "kind", even thow it can feel or be dark many times. It's just a real interpretation of life and those melodies and riffs are priceless that go along with those voices. You probly like Temple of The Dog , if you like AudioSlave. I know this is a yr.old video, but I just wanted to say that.. and that I really liked how you got out your point in that comment.

It's more than that. Go back and really look closely at every single picture of Kurt. His suicide should not have come as a surprise to anyone. Friends and family learn to shrug shit off but the camera doesn't lie. Every single photo of him throughout Nirvana's rise and height and right up to his suicide shows nothing but madness in his eyes. Whatever is going on with the rest of his face or body language there was never anything but madness and depression in his eyes. I think even without the heroin he was destined for the 27 club.

halfbakedoreo i would say the bands that influenced Nirvana were responsible for that, for example the Melvins, the Pixies, Mudhoney, Butthole Surfers etc etc. Even Stevie Ray Vaughn and other musicians during the blues resurgence in the 80's could be credited for bringing America out of hair metal. Punk bands also helped contribute to that.

Yeah, I thought Tracy was his only real girlfriend before fame hit. She would have kept him alive, and not driven him off a cliff like Crazy "Sociopath" Courtney "Love". I still think she killed him. Tracy was really cute and petite during their time; it was kind of a shock to see that she had gotten so overweight just a few years later. Totally related to self-esteem issues of not being his when he made it big, after she supported him while he sat around writing. Common thing being in love with an artist, I guess.

You nailed this reaction. It's a very emotional performance. Especially knowing that he left this earth a few months later. Still gives me the chills. And yes, the way he let's it all out at the end is crazy. On the surface Kurt seemed chill, but there was a lot of aggression and anger bubbling underneath.

~I know this is a year old, but I really lived watching u watch this for the 1st time. It is a great performance, from a great trio, that were playing an immeasurably awesome old song. He really sang this with his heart & gave it its dues... we should give him his. They were a talented group--& all 3 were smart , creative, and kind. You can see that just from their presence, performances, interactions, and interviews, even if u never knew them personally. Great post, girl. You're hair is awesome too...great do(love it on you).

This is one of my secret favourites , its a very average song that in truth, half way, starts to turn you off because he sings it so low and slow like he cant be bothered..................... and then the pain floods out and it feels warm, GOOD , you feel your soul start to crush as the anguish builds because you've been here before , you know that desperate feeling of loss you know the dread , and then you notice the missed words because, thats what you do in anguish....... then comes the scream and the flash of his eyes and you know that he knows pain he knows anguish and hes walked you through it and now your safe. Im older now and this song along with Pearl Jams "Black" haunt my soul...... in a good way, they crush your heart and then walk you home to make sure your safe. I miss his voice and talent , i hope he has found peace.

there is nothing average about this song. It's the kind of piercing blues that has almost sadly been completely forgotten.

I agree. I like Trent Reznor, and highly respect his skills, and talents. With that said, Johnny singing that, made it his song. Even Trent commented, that when he saw it "It wasn't my song anymore" The video made that even more apparent.

I thought I noticed you tearing up, but wasn't sure if my eyes were playing tricks on me or not! Don't worry, it's very understandable!! 💜 I was tearing up right along with you...it always seems to have that effect on me while watching it, too. Even though he didn't write that song, I think it was kind of dedicated to his wife at the time, Courtney Love of the band Hole. It was also the last song of the night, and I believe this whole set was the last performance he did before killing himself...but I could be wrong. He & Courtney, the love of his life, were going through hard times & about to divorce during this time (and when he killed himself/died, since some people think she had him killed). RIP, Kurt...you were such a beautiful person with an equally beautiful soul. 😭 😰😰 💔

@@metrokett I've seen it a couple times, and it is quite convincing & very well made, but I'm a huge Courtney Love/Hole fan, too so I really don't want to believe she had anything to do with it. I used to be obsessed with the whole Kurt & Courtney "thing" and I loved them as a couple. Soaked in Bleach made some good points, but I also know from experience how unbearable addiction on top of depression can be. But then again I don't know what its like to be a millionaire, be extremely talented, be in one of the most popular bands in the world, and have everyone love you. Seems great to me, but I'm sure it has its downside /cons as well. I don't want to believe he took his own life, either of course, but it's not totally unfathomable or impossible for someone with that kind of mindset to succumb to such an ending. I know Courtney can come off as some heartless, narcissistic bitch, but I think she's a little misunderstood. Sure, she's a little bitchy, but capable of murdering her husband & father of her daughter? I don't know what to believe anymore.

PinkMetalHead I know your young but I thought everyone knows Free Bird! dumb people in the crowd mostly punk rockers that only play 3, 4 or maybe 5 chords at a great portion of all concerts with guitar players like to scream play Free Bird in a sarcastic way like it's easy or something as a joke but there's very few that can play the entire thing especially the long solo towards the end. I'm usually a southern rock hater but free Bird is actually a real honest to god motha fucking masterpiece technically and sound wise but we love to make fun of white southerners to alot so people now love to make fun of em without listening to them

He wasn't a heartthrob. He was an addict. But his voice and lyrics meant a lot to us who were teenagers in the early 90s. Up until then most teenagers didn't know it was the norm to be sad and depressed and we didn't know what to say or how to act as a collextive group. He, as much as he didn't want to be, was out voice. He wanted people to hear his music because he knew how relatable it was, but he hated how fame made him feel. It was nice to have nice things. It was nice to have fans. But the worship wasn't so nice and in the end it killed him. Yes drugs did too, and he'd had a problem with them for a decade. But trying to be someone he wasn't trying to be made it worse. A lot of the emotional songs from the 90s were made possible by his basically saying we don't know what to with ourselves, but here we are. I don't think his career could've survived the 2000s. He wouldn't be able to conform and I think pop would've made him jaded. It made all of us jaded, it *still* does. Fuck man--I'm still waiting for the poppy reign of terror to end tbh. Music has suffered because of the mindlessness of lyrics in today's music. It means nothing. A beat, some synth, and a lot of autotune fronted by a pretty face and you have a hit. It's sad. Getting old and being wise sucks sometimes. But that dark, depressing time was one of the best times to live through with grunge.

Lafawnduh I was only 8 when Kurt died but I remember my cousins and my older sister were infatuated with him. Yes he was an addict, but he was also a heartthrob.
@Professionalasshole7 жыл бұрын
Lafawnduh Everyone knows he was an addict, but I don't think that's a great opening statement. That man was wanted by every groupie bc of his charisma. His career would've lasted through the 2000's easily, were it not for his psycho bitch wife having him murdered. That being said, what do you think Jeff Buckley would have done musically had he not passed!?
@wtfgoogle69646 жыл бұрын
I'm 51. I was right in the thick of things when Nirvana hit the scene, and Kurt was never a 'heartthrob'. He was always taken much more seriously than that, always something much, much darker and more dangerous than that. He was no Justin Bieber or Timberlake. It was understood by everyone that this was a man fighting demons.
