that wasn't a 'show' - Kurt admits he's no good at it, he never screams out to the crowd or says stupid sh*t like 99% of the others, he MAY say 'hello' or goodnight before the encore, if that much. He was just running on pure passion when it came to playing music. But I loved to watch him go and thankfully there's video that I can still watch him, bittersweet, mostly sweet.

@@rgoob4045 the band members all grew up on the amazing energy of live bands. They know what it is to put on a show, and for them it’s the pure energy of going all in. This isn't quite the only example where he knocked the mic stand over during "Breed." He kinda did it at the Paradiso, Amsterdam 1991 show (but he pulled or threw it on the floor instead.) But at that show, no one picked up his mic, so he just kneeled while yelling into the mic on the floor.

@@beegdawg " I don't see the point in comparing bands to each other in this way, since they aren't trying to be the same thing." that's exactly my point. Bands have their own preferences in how they write and perform, and so do we listeners. I simply don't like when people turn their fav artists into a dick measuring contest by proxy, it's hella weird. Saying "we will never see the likes of them again" is true but that's not because nobody can do what they did, it's cause everybody's doing their own thing.

these cameramen need 100% kudos for recording this show. one of the best ive ever seen. almost like watching a concert but it's a movie. random guy stagediving, kurt falling and still proceeds to play the breed solo, crazy guy dancing. dave smashing and hitting the drums and krist dancing. these 3 were just on top man.

Absolutely.I think it's clear from his contradictory, brain fart, stream of consciousness lyrics that kurt wasn't someone up who grew up being listened to, praised or indulged with gold stars for his homework etc....at all. Even the title "Nevermind" could refer ironically to someone who has a lot to say but absolutely zero faith in other humans to care. I think he found it difficult to suddenly have people hanging off every word because he was talented at melody. The book "perfume" that he loved is about this. The protaganist grows up ignored by others but makes an artificial perfume that causes others to love him so much they try and take a piece of him.

This is the kind of performance a lot of bands promise but fail to deliver. You'll hear things like "This is going to blow up..." or "Tonight is going to be insane, anything goes..." This really was one of those performances.
@wildmercuryfilms3 жыл бұрын
There have been countless performances as you have described. I saw the Smashing Pumpkins at a small venue in Kansas City, Kansas in April, 2000. A month or so later, they announced that that current tour would be their “Goodbye Tour,” but when I saw them, they hadn’t announced that yet. It was one of the greatest/loudest shows. It was at a very old former courthouse. I saw several Cursive shows that were loud and amazing. Weezer In Lincoln in 2002 was loud. The Rolling Stones in Chicago in 1998.
