I am a fan of starblade and i agree this would make an awesome sequel. :) I even had an idea for a sequel to namco's galaxian 3 games called galaxian 4 revenge of the zolgear. originally my idea was going to be exclusively at epcot but we all know disney is not doing well right now. So If my idea ever becomes reality do you think it should be released at universal studios instead? p.s. I will share my idea but first I need to know if it is a good idea or not.

Yep. These massive objects always have flaws that ships can fly straight into (and out of). Then again, we're not sure if that's the evil empire this time. Nothing in this video specifically mentioned that the player is the good guy. ;)

What is yesterday's retro, is today's indie. Could be fun try out a game like this, fun to imagine anyhow. Really immersive, might be better presented if screen recorded from a VHS. But it's still fun to watch. Excellent work.

This reminds me of flying missions in GeoSword to infiltrate the mechanized planet RedEye and destroy the Octopus Reactor in the StarBlade arcade machine in my garage. Now, I get the joy of watching my children fight the enemy commander in an attempt to destroy RedEye.

@@NstHarlequin The equivalent gameplay-wise would be Rebel Assault on PC back actually in 1993. However they used prerendered videos which we would consider an compression-artifact-fest these days.

Well, this video is 1080p, so that level of fidelity would have been impossible. But if you look up gameplay of Starblade from 1991, you'll see some of the inspiration that was less detailed and at a lower resolution, but still extremely impressive for the time.

Thoughts for a sequel / v1.1 for a future episode: The game doesn't feel very dangerous and rather passive when it comes to opposition. Adding enemy drones and AA-turrets on the capitals would be good. FreeSpace 2 gave beam weapons a chargeup sound, which would be a good detail to add here - something to cause the player to DO A BARREL ROLL! to avoid. The speed gauge could use a slider, that is used to indicate the player's intended speed. This is mentioned, in case this fake retro game becomes the genuine article in the future. Speed controls could be used for getting a high score, by speedrunning most areas or slowing down to take down high-value targets. Some enemies could also control player speed, and may need to be dealt with for best results. All that said, thank you for the video. It was kewl watching the capital ships getting torn to bits.

Ah, flat-shaded *Mode1* graphics, oh how I have missed them...Virtua racing...Virtua fighter 1..happy days racking up the number one spot in the arcade...and always some 'sticky-fingered kid' leaving half a gallon of powdered sugar on the controls... Lest we not forget my favourite "S.T.U.N. RUNNER" - a very fast racing game with a slick control system.

Fantastic work! I did have a few notes, if you decided to pull a revamp/special edition. 1. Around 0:22 seconds, the "Voidburst Deluxe" banner behind the CNN interviewee is for too crisp compared to the rest of the footage... 2. Maybe a weapon cool down meter; I know for myself and most times I see a playthru (or just am in the arcade), there's a lot more "pew pew" from the player ship- something to explain why you're not lighting up every cruiser you see would help the "player" factor 3. Perhaps an overlay for direction choice at key moments, (i.e., at 4:10 when you have the two tunnels)
