But while the LEAF has made a huge impact in the electric car market and has helped more than half a million drivers make the switch, we’ve had to wait an awfully long time for its follow-up to arrive.

I hold some doubts about the price. It's priced the same as cars that have either faster charging tech or bigger brand name (two factors that'll somewhat future proof these cars in their formative stages) - not that I'm a snob about the logo on the bonnet because Nissans are good cars. As compared to the EV6 or Q4 E Tron though, I've got to wonder how well residual value of this Ariya would hold up in comparison

Thank goodness they're starting with the base spec cars on these previews. I get a bit fed up with reviews that blather on about the less (but still) expensive models whilst sitting in the one that peels eyelids with its acceleration and has mega-plush Napa leather finishes...

It looks nice but I dunno,... It just seems to me that Hyundai caught everyone napping in the development of their E-GMP platform. 305 miles from an 80+ KWh battery? The Ioniq 5 does nearly 300 on 73. And that thing as the aero of a brick. And it's cheaper. I like the Arya, I do. But I've no regrets on putting an order in for the Hyundai.

Good review. Nice lookin’ motor, but the specs vs cost is it’s Achilles heel vs everything Volkswagen/Skoda ID.

Absolutely. The specs are about the same as the VW group cars,... But it costs more. You could make the argument that it's nicer inside but then,... Enyaq. Which is nicer inside than this and more practical.

I just wish there wasn't as much of a jump in price from the Advance to the Evolve I know the Evolve has a bigger battery but I wished there was something in-between with the smaller battery but some of the equipment from the Evolve. I can't quite stretch to the Evolve with the bigger battery but I really like the centre console moving also the Advance has electric seats but no memory function and the mirrors tilting in reverse would be nice. Overall it looks a great car can't wait to get to see one and sit in it.

They need to start making these things more efficient instead of keep cramming a bigger battery into it. It just adds charging time and energy consumption which will be a limiting factor very soon.

It's not just a question of waving a magic wand. AFAIK there's no real low fruit anyore when it comes to efficiency apart from completely changing the car's shape and therefore aerodynamics.

@@David34981 then that's what they should be aiming for. think of all the Hyundai EVs such as the Kona and especially the original Ioniq. They use their batteries much better than everyone else. Also SUVs as the main form factor for EVs should not be the case. EVs should be more economical to run, with electric tariffs increasing the costs of running a giant battery EV is catching up to petrol

@@David34981 exactly... Big, aerodynamically-inefficient SUVs shouldn't be the main thrust for manufacturer's EV offerings... Unless you're a farmer / horse-box owner or regularly carry a rugby team around with you, no one actually 'needs' cars the size of most modern SUVs. It's obvious WHY manufacturers keep churning out SUV after SUV - because the public is constantly being 'sold' on the idea of a high-riding driving position and 'lifestyle' looks, so just keep going out and buying the darned things, then putting huge profits back in to the manufacturer's bank balance... The bigger the car = the heavier the car = the more battery capacity is required to get an 'acceptable' range and the vicious circle keeps going.

I am looking forward to seeing your on road review, especially the tech and driver assistance . Its performance in that area will help me decide if this is the car for me or a Tesla maybe. Is the adaptive cruise reactive or predictive? Is the speed control smart ie will it self adjust, does it have smart lane change similar to the Hyundai ionic (before Hyundai started pulling chips due to shortage) in short how close (or beyond) to level 2 is this car? Zen "lounge interior" do me a favour! That's just marketing bs intended to hide short comings in my experience.

I dunno. Frankly, when it comes to appearance, both inside and out, I liked my previous, original 2012 LEAF better. I do like its longer range, of course, but overall I think I'd opt for the Ioniq 5 over the Ariya. We'll see, once you can do a proper review of a production model.

Wish Nissan wouldn't follow the trend of removing physical buttons and free standing panels...also the missing middle console isn't great. Might look modern but doesn't improve day to day life with the car.

This car is two years too late. I was interested in buying one but the dealers just didn't know when they were coming. In the end, I got fed up waiting and bought a used I-Pace instead. The lateness also helps to explain why the tech seems a bit dated already. Two years ago it would have been innovative but things have moved on quickly since then.

22kW AC is great when the DC charger is being occupied, 7 kW is just a disaster I don't touch anything with less than 11 kW. I like the 300hp AWD version and snow mode would be great to have but the price is just way out of reach. Lets hope Nissan figured out preheating too not just cooling, because charging at around 5c cold gates my i3 and I could really use preheating in my next car.

It's fine, I guess. I don't know. It looks like Nissan's version of VW's ID4. It's another EV crossover. The interior is stylish enough, more so than the VW but maybe less so than the Ioniq 5 or EV6.

@@anydaynow01 well Vietnam for instance, is it vinfast has done sensational work and design ABSOLUTELY RUINED by the stupidity for battery subscription, the costs and parameters you are locked into are simply ridiculous, not to mention that when you sell it even the next owners are locked into to the same daylight robbery of a subscription service for the battery, which also comes with a mileage limitation!! Who the hell are they to say how far you can drive your car? I’ll be surprised if they are allowed to sell in many countries with those requirements as it goes against freedom of movement laws, constantly being tracked, Vinfast have cocked up a very good looking car by letting the accountant do the paperwork.

I'll be honest and say I prefer the Renault Mégane upon which it's based. It looks a bit like a star wars storm trooper from the front. The Mégane looks way more funky but both are way too expensive.

I like the look and before the specs were fully flushed out it was one on my short list with the Model Y, Ionic 5 and EV6. But after careful spec for spec comparison I opted for the Model Y. It, along with the Ionic 5 and EV6 have better and faster charging rates for roughly similar the price. More charging options with the Model Y even though that really wasn't a big game changer it was one to consider. But overall I still think this is a really decent addition to the EV space. And if it qualifies for the US federal tax credit along with the Hyundai and Kia then that might sway some people to give this EV a second look.

I think it looks a bit fat and ugly especially at the back. Seems very expensive. I really think car manufacturers are getting ev's wrong. Everyone obsessed with suv production. We need more good euro style family hatchbacks! I can only really think of the id3/born and megna e tech. I don't want or need an electrified Chelsea tractor!

count your own pocket. thousands of folks have over $90k-$100k in lifted F-150s and F-250s in the market. people are buying $70k Ford Explorers and $50k Nissan Muranos, you really think they can't spend money on a $50k Ariya? There is hardly any maintenance for electric cars. it's only because it's not a luxury brand because most of its competitors are similarly priced if not higher.

So you say it has e-Pedal, but I am reading that it really has "e-Pedal Step" which is 2-pedal driving in stop-and-go traffic since it requires you to step on the brakes to bring the car to a complete stop. Otherwise, the car will only slow to about 6mph. So sad.... e-Pedal was the best feature of the Leaf.

Lovely car and good video. To be honest for me, I would still go for a Tesla as the Ariya is roughly the same price if not more expensive than the model 3 standard range version. I think the Ariya starting price is way too high.
