The drag coefficient is high because the Ariya is quite short for its height and it has the most ground clearance of any EV SUV right now. It's a typical Japanese design, maximum space inside while staying as small as possible on the outside. Reason is, that residential parking space is super scarce in Japan (as it will become in europe more and more). Also, they wanted this car to be able to deal with dirt roads etc, to take away the stigma that EVs are strictly tarmac only vehicles. In return, the Ariya might be the first EV with AWD that you might actually take offroad, and it has more space inside than any other EV of it's length. 1775 liters, that's more than the longer Enyaq even, and way more than ID4, Ioniq5 or EV6. Plus the motor tech Nissan uses in this one is very efficient. Also, the drag coefficient is only one part of the aerodynamic puzzle. It's called COefficient for a reason. The frontal area of the car is also very important. And I feel Nissan struck a good balance here. Concerning throttle response - kickdown will always be kickdown. So no difference there. But big difference for everything before kickdown. Concerning AC: You can select the ventilated seats to be non auto. The fan noise and cold air you felt very likely were due to the fact that you had the system on recirc the whole time. I experienced this on a lot of cary. If you run an AC system on recirc for extended periods of time in summer, you'll experience a higher noise floor and you need to set the target temp quite high to stay comfortable. Concerning launch behaviour: This is by design. Nissan wanted this to be refined and very smooth and they actually put a lot of effort in designing this smooth entrance phase, which can be a bit jerky on a lot of EVs. Personally, I feel the way the Leaf+ rips on the front wheels if you floor it is a bit much (and I LIKE fast cars) and I think a lot of people felt the same way. The small pack Ariya will never be considered sporty anyways. It's quick (also objectively), but this one is supposed to be "calm". I'll go out on a limb and say the sport mode on the e4orce will give you what you are after if a kick in the back is your thing.

Kickdown is a switch for automatic transmissions, that shouldn't apply here. cd is higher because it doesn't have a coupe shape, retaining the traditional wagon style.

Like the video Bjorn, and especially the Ariya. I had a short drive of a red one at the Fully Charged Show at Farnborough earlier this year. There is much to like about it. However, despite the growth in technology of cars with gadgets and safety systems, there is one thing that is overlooked. The reflections from the dash onto the screen. Personally, I find this very distracting and potentially dangerous. Sitting on the right of the car, the left side of the screen gets the worst of these reflections. One example that happened to me was entering a small village, high trees on the left creating a large dark spot where I could not see the wall, pavement and side of the road. This was on a left bend so no way of seeing up ahead before reaching the dark spot. A cyclist was stopped at the edge of the road and were it not for my quick reactions he would have become an ambulance case, if he was lucky. My thinking is, that along with all the options manufacturers offer, how about a proper non-reflective mat covering the dash. I had one (from the U.S., Covercraft) for my 3 door Fiesta. It reduced reflections by 98%.

This is a nice car. I really regret though, that they haven't improved battery temperature management on the Leaf, since otherwise it's a brilliant car and a good value for money, too. As for consumption , yesterday I made a 300 km trip with my eNiro, about 100 km on motorways and the rest on regional roads and I also got 135 Wh/km, don't remember the avg speed but I just drove with the traffic, didn't hurry but didn'n sleep behind the wheel either. Good job man, can't wait for the full review.

Curious; When you drive the Ariya on the highway you have to touch the steering wheel to prevent Propilot to disengage, but ProPilot 2.0 is supposed to be hands off highway driving. (when two lanes and separated from meeting traffic). Can you confirm which version were installed on the car you got to drive!?
@NameNaameNameeNaamee
@NameNaameNameeNaamee 2 жыл бұрын
European Ariya doesn't get Pro Pilot 2.0 sadly :( Probably because this level of autonomous driving was not allowed here until very very recently (no idea who Tesla bribed to offer it here, but at least in Germany it was not allowed). Ariya has Pro Pilot 1.5 like all current Nissan sold over here. So Navi link and all that nice stuff, but hands on the wheel (now capacitive though). You can easily spot it, the japanese and US versions have the scanner for the eyes on the steering wheel collumn and also two shark fin antennas, since PP2.0 uses precise sattelite data as well to improve accuracy.

Hi Bjorn, a question that isn't correlated with the video. I don't know if you already heard, but here in Italy, near the town of Chiari, the A35 highway company as created a test circuit to test a road that will be capable of wireless charging cars and other vehicles. For the moment the test circuit is a 1km long and is named "L'Arena del futuro". They are test are conducted using a modified Fiat 500e and IVECO bus. After the test phase, the A35 highway company wants to implement this technology in all the Highway if their competence, starting with a 40km long stretch. I wanted to ask you, if you can please do a video where you sare with us your opinion about this new technology. Do you think that a technology like this could replace the need for Superfast chargers?
@theagentsmith
@theagentsmith 2 жыл бұрын
I agree, Bjorn opinion would be very valuable. Imho it is a great technology demonstration but terrible value proposition. As Bjorn proved over and over again, 1000 km travels are possible with current fast charge stations. A35 is already the most expensive toll highway in Italy, no need to increase it more. The stationary wireless tech Bjorn showed some time ago is much more promising, imagine fitting it with public transport. At each bus stop it charges the bus. This would allow for smaller batteries, more electric buses on the road while keeping infrastructure costs in check. This electrified highway thing most cost millions of euros per kilometre.

@francescoboselli6033 2 жыл бұрын
@@theagentsmith I think that the A35 idea was more oriented to heavy vehicle like bus or trucks. They need bigger battery so if you give them a continuous energy source to recharge their batteries, they can avoid to have bigger battery. Doing so you reduce the resources and the energy required to produce said vehicles, and same goes when you have to recycle their batteries once the reach end ife

I've already watched the video and I have two questions: - After all, does the ePedal stop the car completely or not? I couldn't understand. - The car's 0-100 start does not give a shot like in the leaf?? Is that what you "complained about?" Regarding the ProPilot it seems a little better, but my expectation was something close to Tesla, but it seems to be something very close to Leaf 🤷🏻‍♂️
