This is one of the best Ariya reviews I have seen so-far. Goes right to the points of interest that for myself seem to be the important ones. I am in Canada. I put in a deposit order for the Ariya Platinum AWD e-4FORCE/Performance with the extended battery range and Nappa leather package. From what I was told it is like you would be driving an electric Murano. I was told the inside space is much like a Murano. For service and quality of build I would trust Nissan more than Tesla. I know people who have a Tesla and they all have issues with them, but they love how they drive. I presently have a 2022 Pathfinder AWD Platinum with all options. I like it for driving in severe winter conditions and on country roads in remote areas. Great SUV for going camping and carrying around things. I am keeping the Pathfinder and will use the Ariya mainly for local driving to within a few hundred miles from home. I drive locally an average of about 40 km per day (25 miles). With the cost of gasoline vs electricity, and when factoring in all expenses between the Pathfinder and the Ariya I ordered I may be saving about $4500 per year. When I buy cars I take a full service contract with extended warranty for 6 years or 100K miles. After about 4 years I tend to trade in my vehicles while I can get a decent return value for them. I don't wait till they are too far down in value from age and use, and start requiring a lot of servicing.

One of the best things about my 22/23 Qashqai in the versatility of the boot. I really struggle to understand why this simple yet clever design isn't widely embraced by other manufacturers!

I picked up an Ariya Evolve last week (87kw model). I'm very happy with it. I made a 95 mile journey using just 30% battery. This was in eco mode, in cruise control but still... it is possible to stretch it out. Tend to use sport mode when i'm driving round town on short trips. its the first electric i've driven and very impressed with the acceleration, it feels better than my old audi a4. Handling at speed rounds bends not brilliant, but hey.. its a crossover. In a straight line performance is great. My niggles are lack of storage space inside the car, small rear window (although rearview mirror can switch to electronic) and the seats not going low enough (i'm 6 ft 2 and can't quite see all of the HUD). Also changing drive mode whilst driving is a bit of a pain as its not an actual button, but i suspect i'll get used to it.

I have an order deposit for a Tesla Model Y Performance where the delivery date keeps getting extended. Mixed feelings about it (build quality/seating position) so I took a test drive in an Ariya and within a few miles I knew this is the car for me. I'm coming from a 2021 BMW X4 M40d which, in anyone's eyes is a well-made car. The Ariya came very close not just in build quality, but ride, quietness and seating position. The top range spec with all the trimmings E-4ORCE 87KWH EVOLVE costs close on to £60kGBP in the U.K., a steep price for a Nissan (bar a GTR) but it was the closest feel and drive to my X4. Nobby was right, at this moment in time the Ariya will steal sales for people in ICE SUV's - there isn't if anything else to choose from. The fact that the new Nissan is so well made and has style (bit Marmite I agree but fortunately I love it, especially in the "Duracell Copper" colour), I know I'll be far happier with this than the Tesla. Agree? loads of you won't! Great review Nobby btw, thank you.

Noteworthy: max cargo capacity is actually bigger than Enyaq, despite the Ariya being shorter. 1775 liters - more than any EV of that size. Also, rears seats do recline, which is nice. Heated and cooled seats tie into the AC auto regulation, as does the heated steering wheel, recirc and defrost, all automatic, so little need for button pressing.

Indeed. I drove a white one (just like this one) two days ago. Minimum 6 month wait for the AWD version. Honestly, it was one of the most boring vehicles I’ve driven in some time. It is perfectly polite and does what you wish. However, the ride is weird as the seats shake and oscillate a lot; and in a very weird way. There is a lot of cheap looking plastic everywhere. The cloth part of the interior is nice, except for the fabric on the back of front seats. They look like they don’t fit correctly. There is no comfortable position for the driver’s right arm (in this video). The resting spots are either too high or very low. The fake wood looks pretty bad and unconvincing and the climate controls, being hidden behind them, really look like a cool concept that was executed on the cheap. It doesn’t look cool nor classy in real life. The climate controls look like icons from the 1980s that are hidden behind fake wood. White and orange? Why? The orange looks awful. The sunroof and how it works is nice and solid with no noise. The moving console seemed cool but is entirely forgettable quite quickly. Sadly, the car is so bland that my wife and I never once discussed it after the dinner that we went to once we returned the car. It is perfectly Japanese in its reliable politeness as it does exactly as you wish it to do in the most bland of ways possible. It feels like a fleet rental car; next to no personality. Honestly, it looks like what it is: a 35k car with 25k of battery and motor strapped to it. Another weird thing: there isn’t enough height under the front two seats for the rear passengers to get their feet under reliably. We crossed it off of our list. I really wanted to like the Ariya but spending 3 hours with it convinced me that it isn’t for me. I pretty much knew in 30 minutes or less, honestly. It’s polite, it works, it is quiet, but suffers from cost cutting in spots and is more bulbous and bland looking in real life than in videos. Plastic, plastic, plastic, the wheel covers really let it down as do the cost-cutting measures throughout the car. 6 month wait for that? Nein Danke.

As a UK viewer, I can work out the range in miles when you refer to it in km because that's quite an easy bit of maths. 1.6 km /mile. But when you talk of efficiency using the measure of kwh /100km it means zip to us in the UK, where the only measure we refer to is miles / kwh. With a bit of mental arithmetic I can just about work out that 20kwh / 100 km is a shade over 3 miles / kwh. But it would be really useful if you could refer to efficiency using both measures pleeease.

Tesla's trick is that their bodies and interior largely consists of cheap plastic jank :) Heavier, sturdier ('real') cars are inherently going to be less efficient. To me, the Ariya is the first EV that really feels like an actual car that just happens to be electric (with all the advantages, and, admittedly, disadvantages). I am absolutely in love with this car. I've hated every Tesla I've seen.

Nissan invented the mass produced electric car in the form of the Nissan Leaf. Why did they take so long to bring this out? And with all their experience with the Leaf, I for one, as a 2021 Nissan Leaf owner, was expecting the Ariya to wipe the floor with the competition. But no, Nissan comes up with this middle-of-the-ground offering. I'm somewhat disappointed. Which has lead me to lean more and more towards the VW ID.4 or the Skoda Enyaq. I'll reserve final judgement for when spend some time with the Ariya. It's like Nissan didn't want to make another electric car after the Leaf. It's like they have been forced to make it, and have thereby just gone and said, "Fine. You want an electric car? There, have an eSUV which we are reluctantly building for you". Nothing about the Ariya says to the competition, "Hey, we've been doing this for a while, before all of you". The Ariya is just another eSUV from another legacy automaker - not very efficient, not class leading, not ground breaking, not that space efficient. As for its "luxury" credentials, who is Nissan targeting with the Ariya exactly? BMW? Mercedes? Audi? They can't expect to compete in that segment with this car. The Ariya doesn't quite have the luxury materials that could stand a chance with the Germans, except of course from drivers who just don't like the Germans. And then Nissan goes on to charge so much for the Ariya! I don't know. Maybe I'm just being too hard on the Ariya. But I find it to be unreasonably expensive for what it is. If they would charge 10 grand less than what they are currently asking, that would really turn the tables. It's a shame really, because to be honest, in my opinion, this is the most striking eSUV on the market right now. So pretty. But so damn expensive.

@@hialastair For everyday people like me, the VW ID software is perfectly fine. My daughter has a 2022 ID.3 with Software v3.2 which ironed out a lot of the initial bugs that made the software so "well known". But even before v3.2, I never found anything that was totally unusable whenever I drove the car. Yes, it booted slowly and sometimes froze. But it's not like you are constantly prodding and jabbing at the screen while driving. By the time I get my ID.4 delivered, all these ID software dramas will be a thing of the past (or at least much better).

@@NobbyOnCars And you would be correct. I really like the Ariya, very much. I have been following every update and every piece of news about it ever since it was announced back in 2019. Then I saw it for first time in flesh at Fully Charged UK in Sept 2021 and again this year. I also attended a Customer Preview with Nissan Manchester in May 2022 as well. I unfortunately had to cancel my most recent test drive booking due to some unforseen circumstances that caused a timetable clash. But I'm booked for another one this coming week. So you see, I really, really like the Ariya. But I'm not convinced by the "Premium" price. As pretty looking as it is, I personally think it's not worth the asking price.

I save around 3,000 Euro a year over Diesel at 50 Mpg IMP and have a lot of free work electricity. This is a very poor and overpriced effort by Nissan. It has taken them too long to follow up on the ground-breaking Leaf. Having owned a Kia e-Niro since 2019 I can say that 14.5 kWh/100 km is my winter/summer average...we are just coming to the end of the summer now and the long run average is down to 14....even in mid-winter on the autoroute (we live in France) driving at 110 km/h we are seeing 19 kWh/100 km...Hyundai/Kia seem to be the only cars who can get close to Tesla levels of efficiency. You would think that Nissan would have been able to capitalise on their long experience of making the Leaf to make the Ariya a class leading effort. All very disappointing.
