Nissan C34 Stagea (RB25DET) Manual Conversion

The Stagea finally gets a manual conversion!!
In this video I show you the process of swapping a manual gearbox into a C34 S1 Stagea RS4 (which came from the factory as an auto AWD model).
We hired out Chop Shop Garage for a weekend so our club members could complete 10 different projects in 48 hours - what better time to do such a big project!
Ash is also back to install a shiny new Xforce Varex variable muffler which has been on my bucket list since I bought the car.
The Stagea drives SO much nicer now and feels like a performance car instead of a taxi!

Howd u pull the auto shift linkage out from the chassis?

Haha from memory we just cut it and pull it out as two pieces, one from above and the other from below!

Haha fortunately we had the right puller tool to get the auto one out really easily! I would definitely recommend buying/hiring it as it saved so much time and messing around.

did you need a whole brake pedal assembly or just the pedal ? good video man

We swapped the whole pedal assembly seeing as I had it from the package I bought out of the donor car. This fun part happens at 06:20 in the vid haha. I have heard that some people have luck withcutting the side off the pedal itself with a dremel or grinder just to make it narrow if they couldn't source the whole unit!

I want to convert a Stagea to manual here in the USA but I'm worried about price. How much did it cost you guys to get all the parts and how many hours does it take?

Total cost was close to $4k AUD including purchasing the full manual conversion kit from a wrecked Stagea, workshop hire, flywheel machining, fluids, some extra tools and some meals. We managed to get it done in roughly a day/night and another night - so somewhere around 20-24 hours. But it was in a workshop with heaps of mates around - which made the process easier of course but also got in the way a little if you look at the raw number of hours (lots of stopping to chat etc but it was heaps of fun!). I think it would be definitely worthwhile even if you look at it as purely an investment over there if you look at the price of manual Stageas at the moment. Fast forward a few years once parts are even rarer and they're likely to be even more valuable than the auto ones. Plus it really livens them up, it's so much fun to drive now compared to the automatic transmission.

How did u get the speedo working

The speed sensor is the rear plug on the gearbox (near the transfer case filler hole). Because we cut the 2 wires off the main starter loom when we removed the auto transmission, it was easy to just run 2 new wires from where we cut it all the way to the sensor on the new gearbox. I have another video coming out soon explaining how to take care of all the wiring!

Did you use your factory auto ecu ?

Yep! Had zero issues as the auto ecu works perfectly with a manual gearbox. Just make sure you hook up the sensors I mention in the next video about the electrics!
