I have a 2017 Nissan Titan VK56 engine (V8 5.6 2WD). I had an error code p0720. Changing the sensor didn't fix the issue. I watched this video and changed the TCM. Now my truck is back to normal. Thank you. The service bulletin was a game changer.

I took my 370z to AAMCO with 7 speed automatic transmission that would not shift into any higher than 3rd gear. Diagnostic Code P0720 and P0500 and they said transmission (60,000 miles) has sparkly glitter in transmission fluid and required new $8k transmission and valve assembly. I paid $500 for that diagnosis and then took the car to Jeff at Integrity who has been in business for 40 years. Jeff did research on the code and found a manufacturer tech bulletin explaining to change out the TCM Transmission Control Module and the valve assembly. Jeff installed brand new TCM and Valve assembly just as shown in this video. Car is now like new! No new transmission required! Total Cost $2,900 including labor and tax. I would recommend Integrity to anyone needing transmission work.

Iv got the same car same issue. But I replaced the valve body and still the same issue. Iv got 55,000 miles on my 2014 auto z . Maybe it is the output speed sensor I dunno what to do.

I changed my speed sensor 1st because it was the cheaper option. I will now change the valve body which comes with the TCM. Im thinking this should correct the issue. ** it car wasn't going past 1st gear. Then the speed sensor was changed. The transmission shifted great until turning it off and go to driving again. I will give an update soon.

I have the same code P0720 in my 2014 QX70, RWD with the RE7R01A transmission. I understand this is actually a TCM issue since the output speed sensor is built in the TCM. This video is quite explanatory and very helpful. Thanks for sharing it with us. Have you guys found any source where I can get the TCM only, without the valve body and the oil strainer? I also know some Infiniti dealers offer the only option of the whole assembly. Thanks in advance.

The output speed sensor is NOT built into the tcm, however, the problem is almost always a bad tcm. They are not usually sold without the valve body, perhaps try eBay and get something that is an exact match as far as year make model and engine size.

My dealer told me that they are VIN specific, and need to be programmed to the car. I can verify this is accurate, since I installed an OEM TCM/valve body a few months ago, and It didn't fix the P0720 code. Long story short, my eventual fix was a new battery... smh. But I have 2 Q40's and here I am a few months later, and the other one is having the issue, but the battery didn't fix it this time. @@iptperformancetrans

@@iptperformancetrans I too have the dreaded P0720 error on 2014 Q60 RWD. Problem I've noticed on eBay is most sellers list this as a generic part they don't provide year or model. For example "fits '08 Nissan / Infiniti" with a long list of models that use this TCM. My understanding is in order to work the TCM has to be programmed and is model / year specific. I can do the swap but can't find the exact replacement since everyone is so vague about year and model. Is the number, like M3B (example) enough to confirm its programmed to work with my vehicle???

The sensor is not built into the TCM, but your TCM is bad and setting the code The sure fix is a new VB and TCM from the dealership, they are only sold together

My 2011 370z auto gearbox necked itself the other week. I've purchased a 2021 auto gearbox with only 30,000kms on it. The 2021 gearbox was installed without changing around the TCM. Nissan mentioned the car is stuck in limp mode due to the TCM not wanting to communicate with the 2011 ECU. After, the car was taken to a performance shop and updated the firmware in the ECU to 2021, the 2021 box TCM started to communicate with the updated ECU. However, the variable timing was thrown out. The ECU is now back to stock and our next move will be to install the old TCM from my broken gearbox to the new 2021 Valve body and tranmission. Would this work, are the value bodies any different between 2011 & 2021?

IMO the answer is always installing the correct transmission in the first place This is why I don’t know how to answer these questions- I never run into it. That said, if you use the original VB from the car, it usually will work.

if the speed sensor are not the problem you have one of the three wires not having contact, but the power wire has!!!!your info wirer have not, you have no signal, from one off the two moste likely the follow the wire after the plug going in to the tcm, between the tcm and the plug there is an incorrect connection there is you problem!!

i have a 2012 g37 coupe 160k miles. dosent let me shift from D to DS or manual mode. also will not shift above 3rd gear. codes U1024 & P0720. it didn't throw a CEL at first but i scanned it and got those codes. it threw a CEL since but i haven't scanned it to see what other codes i could have. my trans also seems to be slipping so i was planning on buying another 7at and putting it in. i found one from a 2012 Sedan, from what i've looked up i think the trans for the coupe and sedan r the same. the shop with the trans says they r the same. i bought a new pan, fluid,gasket and was going to go buy the trans tmrw for $500 117k miles. will this fix my issue or am i not fixing the right issue?

@iptperformancetrans I have a po720 code output shaft speed sensor circuit and po615 starter relay circuit and c1109 battery voltage abnormal codes. Could this be wire/connector issue or signs of my TCM? No problem with shifting PNRD gears. High RPMs stuck in 2nd and 3rd

I’d look at the battery and starter relay codes as perhaps a voltage problem caused a problem with the TCM, either that or it probably just failed, it’s extremely common

Hey so I been searching and no one has had a sure fix. The Manual mode kicking you out. last for 30s to 10mins then kicks you out of gear back into regular D for drive. so can't even run DS for my power band because it kicks me out .. Is this what I need to do??

Interesting. I’m getting P0720, car won’t go over the 3rd gear, it will turn into D by itself when I try to use the manual mode and I get a TCC solenoid reading of 0 value when scanning while running.. not sure what else I can test to identify the source of the issue.

@@nozahyoublockqork2690 got a new vb/tcm from a 2013, put it in but i think i blew a fuse. now it doesnt know what gear im in and doesnt communicate w the tcm (code u0101), going to test the fuses in a few hours and hope its just that. if u dont blow a fuse like i did then it should be plug and play which i heard from multiple forums and even 2 dealerships told me its plug n play. goodluck its stressful, take my word for it and get a tcm and vb not just one of the two😂

Hey, so if I change the TCM the speed sensor in the inside of the transmission also change the battery and alternator what else could be the issue because my battery light and my brake light is on and it’s not doing nothing like the car a crank up start Run, but it’ll have the same effects that it’s been having,So would it be the speed sensor on the outside???????

You may have multiple issues and it *may* need a TCM, however, the proper order of diagnosis would dictate that you check battery voltage and grounds if you are having issues there before trying to fix codes.

It was the throttle body that needed reprogramming. But now it came back with no output speed sensor. So wondering if I should replace the tcm or the whole transmission. Wondering if I can reprogram it myself.

The most common cause of that in these transmissions is a bad torque converter

That's not even enough for correct interchange as they can have the same part numbers with different software installed on the TCM. Good Luck.

I purchased a used tcm and it drive OK however the paddle shifter is not working and the gear knob shifter (Sport mode) does not show numbers until you start to shift it. New code U1000. I filled the trans by my own and the car now runs and shifts not on time like it used to be but now pass the 3gear while won't do with my old valvebody . But when gear its in D it moves forward but not like before like if was on limp mode . And got code P2713 . Please help do i need to reprogram that tcm from new valvebody??

Pretty much all of the electronics are in or on the tcm. If you swap one, it's got to be from the same exact year, make model

Im currenting dealing with this on my Q40 through my research ive put information together and from looking at my repair paper work.. when i looked at the Diag of my p0720. from my machine they listed some items that needed attention, Brake fluid corrosive and output speed sensor, so they replaced me sensor and no change to the car . Then i looked at this site that builts the RE7 and they had a writeup on the 720 code and one of the causes is Brake fluid leaching into the transmission area and cause the solenoids to ARC between each other. This causes critical failure.

@@rstack8727 The TCM is bath in transmission fluid right in the bottom of the transmission and sealed up pretty good. How much brake fluid and the transmission must be cover in it to cause a fault?? There is a TSB from Infiniti/Nissan to say that if there is a P0720 it is not s speed sensor issue but to replace the TCM / valve body assembly.

It’s not the speed sensor it’s the weak a$$ TCM, and since it’s sold together w/ valve body as an assembly, it’s runs for $2,300 (what I bought it for) other dealers increased the price to $3,200 recently. I installed it and it fixed the issue. I’m now selling/trading it and getting a vette. This is why the car would go into limp mode and not throw a code SMH @ NISSAN.

What is thr absolute issue? Broken soldered connection? shorted? There has to be someone that knows something. Ill fix them for free (my labor) if we can figure this out. Someone has to pick up the pieces when companies fail at designing or warranty work.

The circuit board in the tcm shorts to ground. I haven’t heard of anyone being successful in fixing them. If you want to contact me at the shop, I can probably find a bad one if you want to mess with it
