I can confirm Nissan had NO battery replacement plan when I suffered a similar problem with my 2018 Leaf in MN. I bought it new and the battery failed after only 1 month, 104 total miles on the car. It displayed the scary error message, "Unable to restart after power off." So I didn't dare turn it off. I drove straight to the dealership and was sent home with a loaner Nissan Rogue. I was so disappointed I had to drive that for a month before I got my new Leaf back. The cause was unbalanced battery cells, which may have been the result of me consistently charging my pack to only 80%. Since then I have frequently charged to 100%, which apparently is required for the pack to balance its cells.

Very similar story I had with my 2017 Nissan Leaf except I'm not an influencer/KZbinr so my local Nissan dealer had my 2017 for 1 YEAR 9 MONTHS! Finally Nissan America got involved and purchased\bought back my 2017 Nissan Leaf as it was 'cheaper' than putting in a brand new/refurbished high voltage battery pack under the 8 year 100K factory warranty. Nissan did provide for me a rental (ICE) free of charge that they charged back to the Nissan warranty claim which over the 1yr 9 months totaled up over $16K just in rental charges! Explain to us Nissan America how buying back customers cars, paying for a rental for the year or more it takes most to get approved for a buy back 'saves' money and most importantly retains customers. Never again Nissan, never again. What's worse in my case is that I drove my car into the dealership just to get the high voltage battery checked out before the 8yr 100K warranty was to expire as I had noticed a loss in range over my ownership of around 30 less miles per charge. At the end I was only getting about 55-60 miles per full charge (in city). I could of made the car continue to work for my daily commute of only 32miles round trip, instead Nissan sent it to salvage/auction (or whatever they are doing with them).

Add one more. My 2022 Nissan Leaf sat at the dealership from early July until it was destroyed by hurricane Milton in October. It was an SV Plus with the 62kw battery. But the issue was similar to this one, a main battery problem they could not fix. I personally know of 6 others currently in a similar situation. I was told by a service manager from another brand's dealership that the cause of the problem is that Nissan is in financial trouble and stopped paying some of it's 3rd party vendors. Therefore they cannot obtain the necessary replacement parts. I cannot verify that claim, but it makes sense. I don't know if this problem also effects the Ariya or their other ICE vehicles, but I suspect it is a problem that's just limited to the Leaf line (which has been discontinued after the 2025 model). FYI, my solution was to take my insurance settlement and buy a new Tesla Model Y Long Range. Interestingly, after the $7,500 instant tax rebate, added incentives, and Tesla's 0% interest rate, my monthly car payment is now $100 less than it was with the Leaf.

Big corporations try to use processes for everything - it's cheaper overall to have the 'happy paths' covered in as low a cost way as possible. I suspect the scenario that you encountered is just so rare that they didn't have a process that covered it, and the nearest fit was to ave the whole car replaced. Probably needed a fairly senior person to sign-off the replacement too, which would have taken time to arrange.

It's simple. They have to sell these to stay afloat. They don't have time to reengineer stuff on their old platforms. So, if you are buying a car for commuting, grocery, or school runs, you will be fine as you will get a Chademo plug wall box at home. It's like my i3. I almost don't care what socket I have because this is a city car, and I had to charge it on a public charger once. This is an inconvenience, I agree but not worth the money. I bought my 40 kilowatt leaf 2018 model in October 2021 within a month this error code CPU needed replaced and they kept it because of shipment delays at the shop for over 2 months. I was not given a loaner... all the repairs were covered 100% as it was still under the 5-year warranty. Every week the Nissan regional person would call from Franklin Tennessee to tell me the part is still delayed, when I started complaining about Nissan not honoring the loaner replacement car since I just purchased the CPO warranty, I was told that is a franchise dealer issue not Nissan's problem. I guess that is true but in the dynamic these days if you buy a car 3 hours away and have it serviced at the closest facility one hour away check or be aware they will not provide a loaner so you are still on your own even though you purchase a plan...

Orange peel paint all over. Very poor finish quality. The front and real bumpers stuck out. Rear seat fabric was loose and wrinkled - all from before I took delivery. The dealership was useless. I finally called Nissan corporate and they got and engineer on the case. Really great guy. Tools months but they took it to a body shop and worked it over. Then I asked them - this is the stuff I can see - what about the mechanical stuff that’s not noticeable now or yet. So they threw in a full coverage warranty for an extra few years / miles. Also you compare them to Tesla and Rivian - keep in mind these are manufacturer direct. Like I said - call Nissan corporate. Forget the dealer.
