One of these vans was the first vehicle I saw when I was taking my leaf home from the car yard at the charging station on my way home. Great to see these being used. I have a 2015 e~NV200 and mine does not have the liquid cooling system. It’s strictly a passive cooling system like the Leaf but I have had no issues and travel all over Japan in my awesome van! Absolutely love this van and even with a 24kWh pack it gets us everywhere we want to go. 🙂👍
@EVsEnhanced3 жыл бұрын
That is really interesting. We have not seen a non-cooled e-NV from Japan before. Are you sure? What sort of spec is your van? How did you figure out that it didn't have the cooling system?
@ElectrifiedJourneys3 жыл бұрын
@@EVsEnhanced In Japan if you want to buy the 7 passenger e~NV200 you only get one choice. They actually call this van a wagon so it doesn’t get confused with the work vans. All the work vans come with the active cooling and the 5 passenger wagon does as well, but the 7 passenger wagon~van comes with an extra air~conditioning unit for the back of the van. Since the extra row of seats and the extra air~conditioning add quite a bit of weight to the van Nissan pulled the active cooling out. Like I said before, if I want the 7 passenger van I don’t get any choice of configuration or options. At least it is the top of the line model so it comes with full airbags including side curtain air bags that run to the very back as well as a 1,500 watt inverter that runs off the traction battery. Unfortunately, shortly after the 40kWh NV’s started to ship, Nissan Japan stopped selling them over here. They were incredibly expensive at $50,000 so the only people buying these things were the city halls around Japan for the most part. Still, it’s a shame because it really is a wonderful van even if it’s made in Spain. 😉

@@ElectrifiedJourneys Thanks very much for the detailed explanation. We learn something new every day :) Yes, we were aware that there were very few 40kWh e-NVs sold in Japan and that they have stopped selling them altogether which is a shame for us here in NZ as we source many of our EVs as used imports from Japan. Or why Ford made an all-electric Ranger truck in the late 90's. Then recalled them for no reason, and didn't make any effort to electrify transport for 20 years. Same exact story for GM from the EV1 to the Bolt. Legacy automakers have displayed contempt if not outright hostility toward EVs -even their OWN damn EVs- for decades. Nissan's irrationality was, . . normal in this regard. I love the Leaf because it offers people an electric option for under $4kUSD. I have no sympathy however for Nissan, Ford, GM, and what they have coming. They made their bed for 20 years with decisions like the one mention.

Have you guys thought of doing an aftermarket cooling kit for the leaf 40&62? Forced air cooled maybe?
@EVsEnhanced3 жыл бұрын
Hi. Firstly, the 40 and 62 are completely different situations. The 40 is pretty bad on any kind of long-ish trip with multiple fast charges involved whereas the 62kWh takes a lot more effort to cook. There is very little spare space in a 62 pack which is pretty packed full of cells so adding anything else in there isn't feasible. We have put considerable thought into cooling a 40, but decided against it mainly because the original module design really doesn't lend itself to very effective cooling. It makes more sense to put good 40 packs into earlier cars and replace with a well engineered replacement pack with a decent cooling system. We're planning on releasing more videos this year on this topic.

Hi. The only part which was mentioned, but not shown here is the de-gassing and re-gassing of the air conditioning system which is used to cool the battery on most e-NV200s. Other than that - yes it is super easy compared to an ICE swap.

@EVsEnhanced3 жыл бұрын
Hi. Good question. The answer is yes and no. You can use most of the modules from a 40kWh Leaf battery pack, but not all of them. You need a few e-NV200 specific half modules and trying to split 40kWh Leaf modules in half is not recommended. Also, the 40kWh Leaf BMS needs to be reprogrammed and a different current sensor is required. We just happen to be doing an e-NV200 40kWh upgrade this way very soon and we will make a video showing and explaining the whole process.

Is there going to be a 16-blade battery pack available for the ENV200 as well?

However, we do have tentative plans for the e-NV200 that we'll re-visit more seriously once 16 Blade Green is in production. We're also currently playing around with re-packaging 40kWh Leaf modules into e-NV packs as we expect to be pulling a lot of 40kWh Leaf packs out of ZE1s to upgrade to 16 Blade Green.
