Disassembling my old 24kWh Nissan e-NV200 battery pack after upgrading to 40kWh ( • Nissan e-NV200 24kWh t... ). The battery still has plenty of life left and will be repurposed for home storage applications.
Some of these modules are for sale: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/284394673159

Thanks for sharing. Came here looking for the forced air cooling of this battery pack. I’m thinking adding air cooling to Nissan leaf - external cooling system, use conduit pipe to duct cool air into the battery pack. Keep it all waterproof. Prolong the battery pack life and increase the functionality of the car.

Interesting to see the "cooling" system, all those cells give me itchy hands, I building a small home battery system with them is very tempting. Or a semi portable leisure battery with inverter etc is also tempting.

There are some good off the shelf bms systems you can use which make building a battery store using these cells relatively straightforward e.g Batrium bms, they have a LeafMon sensor for Nissan leaf modules. I've not used it myself yet, but it looks impressive

Hi Glyn. How do ventilate your van whilst sleeping. I would like to convert my electric van and need some ideas. Alan.

I've got wind deflectors fitted on the windows, so I can leave the front windows open without rain coming in, I've also got a sliding side window which I open. Also I often leave the climate control running overnight to have plenty of fresh air and heating/cooling if needed. If you don't have solar panels or a roof rack on the roof like I have, fitting a 12V fan in the roof to draw fresh air through the van would be a nice addition.

Hi Glyn. Based on what you saw in this video do you think it's possible to replace the main socket on the battery (50/80kw?) without opening the pack? By de-pinning the two conductors and pulling the orange RCS800 connector off to replace it?
@GlynHudson
@GlynHudson 3 ай бұрын
I don't think so. Out of interest, why would you need to place the socket?

@@GlynHudson So easily done, with hindsight! Thanks - yes spotted that. Just wondered if the Leaf and ENV have the same length brown connector wire (assuming the 2 main conductors are the same length). I am resigned to open the pack 🥲 Do you still have yours to measure it (3 years ago probably not)?

Interesting, so all the air cooling does is blow cool air onto each module? As it doesn’t seem like there’s a gap between each module to blow cold air through them
@GlynHudson
@GlynHudson 2 жыл бұрын
No it just blows cold air over the top of all the modules. Proper liquid cooling that most modern EVs have is much more effective, but this is better than nothing! The Nissan LEAF doest have any form of cooling whatsoever.
@domtdoodar99
@domtdoodar99 2 жыл бұрын
@@GlynHudson ahh okay interesting, i wonder how effective it is compared to the leaf without cooling (i.e does it make a big difference on road trips). Does it have an exhaust fan/exit?
@GlynHudson
@GlynHudson 2 жыл бұрын
@@domtdoodar99 yes, it does make a difference. It will still get hot if driven hard and rapid charged several times, but it cools down quite quickly. No exhaust, just a heat exchanger using A/C refrigerant the battery pack is still sealed and waterproof.

Maybe could’ve just used whole pack as a ‘home power storage’ battery?
@GlynHudson
@GlynHudson 2 жыл бұрын
The individual modules are much easier to use for home storage. The whole battery pack is physically too large and too heavy to be practical for home storage. Also, it would be quite a challenge to get the battery to close the HV contactors when the battery is outside of the vehicle, the Nissan bms is designed to net let this happen. As far as I'm aware there's no way do this. Using the individual modules allows the use of a different bms system that's much more flexible e.g I've heard batrium bms is a good option, but I've not used it myself yet

@@GlynHudson I have the official documents on how to reuse the BMS for stationary storage. Might make a video on this 😁
@GlynHudson

That would be interested, I've not found any solution for doing this other then using the Nissan PDM and inverter. Obviously if space was not a limitation this would be the easiest way to reuse the battery pack as stationary storage. I can imagine a shipping container full of old packs providing grid storage!

@@DalasEVRepair You mean as a 360V pack right?The best situation would be to use the pack or even better the car itself as a portable battery.I 'm living offgrid (battery pack is from my 30 kwh heavily degraded Leaf (,I contacted you Daniel and you were right about the fact that the BMS will not cope with the 24kwh battery modules:they work but the SOC îs all over the place! 😀).I'm using AC Coupling in my offgrid sistem and here is the place where You came in, Daniel!If we could hook up an ongrid Fronius(or other) inverter directly to the ChaDeMo port and could open contactors::portabile generator!! 😎 and less worries in winter! And I got one more question for you Daniel:Does the new version of Leaf Spy Pro 46..171 have the abillity to erase the DTC 3102 to pair another battery to the Leaf?I should find a proper pack in the following days.Thank You for your work!

Careful. Those are not high voltage rated gloves your wearing and have you discharged each cell pack?
@GlynHudson
@GlynHudson 2 жыл бұрын
If you look carefully I was wearing high voltage gloves (class 0, 1000V rating) when handling the high voltage bus bar interconnects. Once the pack has been split down into individual stacks and modes the voltage is much lower. Each module is only 7.6V, so totally safe to handle without gloves

@@GlynHudson Now that you have opened and dismantled the pack, given your time over would consider buying the more common Leaf 40kw pack and just swapping out the "40kw" cells ?
@GlynHudson
@GlynHudson 2 жыл бұрын
@@rhiantaylor3446 that wouldn't work too well since the LBC / BMS is setup for the 24kwh cells, the GOM would be incorrect. You would also need to swap the LBC, and I think the env200 had a different LBC to the Leaf since it needs to handle the battey cooling system.
