Nissan Frontier DIY Skid Plates - Truck Build pt. 1

I purchased a new to me 2017 Nissan Frontier. This will be the truck I'll take around the country on my hunting trips for the foreseeable future. There are a lot of things I want to do to the truck to make it the perfect hunting truck for me. First step is skid plates. Skid plates are fairly expensive. After doing a some research I headed to the shop to make some for my truck.

Hey I want to make a diy skid plate but im no car expert. Are there any parts that I should not have the skid plate cover, or need room to move at all? Or is it fine to just cover the entire undercarriage with the skid plate? Thanks

Subd! In Columbia, SC is a pretty badass shop called Bashfab that makes custom one off bumpers and anything you can dream up down to furniture and handrails.. Should check them out for simple pre runner bumpers! They just did one on a 2011 Tacoma and front on a Tundra recently that was sweet

I have been searching and researching for a little over a month off and on and debating whether I wanted to make my own or order some. I was in the same boat, looking at the prices of PP or Fabworks and comparing that to a sheet of steel, seeing this I might just go ahead and do my own! Awesome video looking forward to more on the Frontier. Also, any idea what gauge steel you went with?

Heavy duty self tapping screws.

I don’t know what the dimensions were. I just got under the truck with a tape measure and started measuring until I got it all figured out

It was a 4x8 sheet of steel. It was leftover from an old job. I’m not sure of the price. Even buying a brand new sheet and tools will be significantly less expensive then buying the premade plates.

1/4 inch steel in alabama is not cheap.
