Getting an xterra In a few weeks..Great camping Vehicle and surprisingly Reliable

Awesome Storage system. I am a Automotive Technician and currently assigned a 2006 Nissan Xterra as a mobile field response mechanics vehicle. I had just laid out the bottom floor 3/4" plywood and maintaining the use of one or both split 70/30 rear passenger seats. I was going to build shelving unit with a sliding floor table for the rear lift gate storage area, but after seeing your video gave me inspiration to modify my design and if I can have your permission to incorporate some of your design. I love the rear suspended sliding shelf with the two removeable drawers. The bottom side wing spaces with the open cut outs is a brilliant idea! I can foresee additional storage space utilizing the side rear left and right window spaces. I did keep in mind to have some access to the existing hidden storage space at the rear and like your flushed floor access panel idea. I am excited to build my assigned vehicles storage space. Great Storage Concept!!

No idea why he didn’t just take the removable hidden storage plastic floor panel and drop the jack into that giant hole. I’d have made that panel for the jack the exact size of that hidden well and taken the plastic cover out. Massive amounts of storage under there

I had the same problem when I first bought my 2013 Xterra pro 4X and trying to sleep in it was a challenge, and since my jet sky was (kaput) I got it of the trailer and built myself a teardrop trailer with a rear w/c and shower.

Love this design. I keep toying with the idea of a build similar to this to maximize head space. As practical as storage under the bed is, I don’t love the idea of loosing the headspace in an suv.

Nice build. Your vid is the closest I could find to get ideas for my Nissan pathfinder build, very similar vehicles. So thanks but if noticed something in your video that you may not be aware of. On the pass seat next to the head rest there's a lever. So here's what to do. First, pull the lever on the bottom of the seat so that the backrest is forward. Then pull on that lever on the top by the headrest and the seat should lay flat. Adjust accordingly. Gives another 2 feet or so.

Love the low profile bed, but I feel for most people, to access those upper shelves, especially if you keep your refrigerator or stove on those, it would just be too high. I wonder if there is some type of slide or hinge system that would allow those high shelves to rotate down while coming out so they are lower when they were opened, THAT would make this build a 10/10 for sure.
@chucky6367 Жыл бұрын
I'd rather have drawers under the bed, you can't get in from the back in this one, ld pee myself before l managed to wrangle my way out the side door in the middle of the night lol

@chazlyle415 жыл бұрын
We roll with this upper shelf lower sleeping setup in our 4Runner and the best part for us is that you can hide all your bins in the foot spot under the shelf in the day so the car looks empty and then set it on top at night to have room to sleep. No drawer on top for us but a good idea for this larger SUV. Our old 99 is small enough to reach everything but that’d be wise in larger, newer set ups. Have you considered working some aluminum framing into your work at all? Our shelf is aluminum, plastic sliders and wood.

what did you do to make the floor flat befor carpeting them? its a amazing job!
@WillN2Go14 жыл бұрын
Really well thought out set up. Very impressive. I like your center trap door. What might be an idea is to divide that underneath space with net. Maybe aluminum 1' x 1/8" bend to conform with the floor. Then you could shove things in either side or the middle, know where they're going to be, but not be constrained if you over fill one area or the other. And of course there are items you intend to put in this space that make this impractical. I would log something like this to memory for possible use somewhere else. One issue I have with stuff sacks and material by the yard suppliers (I make some of my own gear). The colors are too similar and too dark (If I never have another 'black' anything I won't miss it) so you can't easily color code storage or find it in dim light. Instead of the table brackets, for my 'bunk' my extension folds back over the top. I use webbing that gets tight to hold the 'shelf' in place. At most it only supports my head while I'm sleeping. I do like your use of the brackets. They don't waste any space because the seat is going to slide back when they're not deployed. Good idea. I like your removable trays. What engineers would now do with all of this is to make the next iteration with thinner and thinner plywood until it fails, then back up a notch. The half bunk I made for my Prius V (to go see the eclipse in 2017. I'm still using it) is 1/4 inch luan plywood with 3/4" ribs stiffening it. It's held up well.

Some great ideas for utilizing the space available - the two slide out surfaces w/o drawer slides are simple but very useful. The sleep surface being low, with storage above hasn't been done much in these vehicle build-out videos, but personally feel it's a better design - one doesn't feel as claustrophobic (anymore than usual when sleeping in a vehicle of that size), and you've got room to sit up in bed, recline, or just make it easier to get in & out of bed. Nice build, and thanks for sharing these ideas.

@lisascalabrini73594 жыл бұрын
Nice idea, but looks like people wouldnt be able to roll over or sleep on their sides because of that top level. Could the top level be on a vertical slide system where u raise it up towards the ceiling & lock it into place for a more roomy nights sleep? Sort of the way a standing jackstand slides up its bar & locks into place? Could be one on right, one on left, & the sliding jack feature could be telescoping so when u lower it down it disappears down into itself- theres gotta be a way to lift that upper level to ceiling when sleeping, cuz they're gonna want a mattress pad in there & even a 3" memory foams gonna take up precious space. Fun ideas tho, for sure!

@nathanrieck21124 жыл бұрын
Iggy OC you can do something similar to this without using seat function. Right now your seats flip forward and then the back lays down with the headrests off. That gives you the bed platform. Then you jest make some shelf in the back similar to what he shows here. That way you still have 5 seats but can take more people. If you want more bed space like he is showing you remove the bottom portion of the seats and store them and then get the little action pack storage container that fits in there
@mwb71214 жыл бұрын

There is a company that just came out with a DC air conditioning system. You would need to have a large battery bank then a way charge the battery bank or dual battery isolator to charge while driving. I have seen videos of people doing it in vans not sure about SUVs.
