I can tell you one thing I've had both Nissan and Toyota trucks. I have never had any problems with either truck. I have a 2008 Frontier and a 2001 Tacoma and both have treated me well. It depends on how you treat your trucks and how you maintain it. My oldest truck was a 1985 Nissan hardbody with over 400K and till this day my sons still has no problems. Everyone has a preference.

I comparison-shopped Tacoma versus Frontier in 2005 and again in 2014, and bought the Frontier both times even though the Tacoma looked better on paper. Problem was, the Tacoma had a punishingly awkward driving position that could not be adjusted away regardless of the seat position and tilt wheel, but the Frontier allowed a range of comfortable positions for pleasant long-distance road trips. When you often cover 500 miles in a day, it makes a difference.

I Replace the filter and do the oil change every few months and the baby never lets me down!! It has the v6 , manual 6-speed trans. love this truck! thinking about doing a titan swap to the front, to get that bit more of suspension travel! I had a master cylinder problem like a year after i bought it! warrenty covered it ! never had a problem since!

The nice thing about the Nissan is that is cheaper to buy. Since this test was done, Nissan has lowered the prices on the Frontier and increased the amount of standard equipment, particularly the SV value package, which comes with things like backup camera (2013) and heated seats (2014). The 4.0 V-6 has 265 HP and it goes like a scalded cat when you step on it. The Toyota might have an edge off-road and they are certainly reliable trucks (at least my 1988 was). But in any comparison, you have to factor in PRICE, and the Nissan can be bought for less than a comparable Toyota, with incentives and all. Hard to believe the current generation Frontier is nearly a decade old!

It's a flip of the coin from my view. I tested out both trucks back in early 2007, bought the Frontier, have owned it ever since. Good truck, no troubles but for a shock that unseated it self, quick fix. I preferred the Nissan because of its size (2 inches narrower, 3 inches shorter) and the handling characteristics (overall better handing IMO). The Frontier just felt sportier to me. In the looks department, a half dozen or six, take your pick. I'm also not brand loyal. When it comes time to buy, I go out and test drive every vehicle that I think will suit my needs, then short list, then drive them again until I make up my mind. Mines almost 8 now, usually keep them for 10, then sell or trade for another. Can barely wait cause I love them new vehicles.

Love my Nissan Frontier! Tacoma is nice but not as comfortable for long rides. Just racked up 100,000 miles on mine. The only thing I changed was the radiator to be safe after reading and watching a video on KZbin about seal going bad inside and transmission and antifreeze mixing together. You can buy a radiator for $125.00 on e-bay. Both trucks are great trucks. Love the look of the new Chevy Colorado trucks. My relatives have had nothing but trouble with theirs. My Trailblazer was all ways needing some thing fixed. My son in law is all ways having to fix his Ford F-150. So for now I will stick to my Japanese trucks. My cousin works for Toyota and makes more per hour than my wife's uncle working for Ford. Ford is having to pay for the mistake of paying way to much to their workers years ago. Not to mention the people at the top as well. I think Americans just get way to greedy. People spoil it for future generations with their greed. New Post office employees are facing the same problems as the UAW workers.

Hands down to tacoma. Toyota trucks will run forever if u take care of them. Ice cold Ac all the time from your 84 22R to the newest trucks. And off roading is what makes a truck usable. They hold there value compared to any used trucks 5 hats why there still so expensive. I personally like the 03 crew cab because there lighter and even more nimble. Nissan got acceleration though, but not for off-roading.

Toyota had really soft springs in the front, and a really long hood, I felt like I was driving a ski boat when I was taking the test drive. Only the Off Road package has stiffer shocks, and that Toyota was 31,500, vs. a 26,000 Nissan. Also in the Toyota the parking brake kept hitting me in the knee. No one doubts the reliability and strength of the Toyota, but in the end, I liked the Nissan better.
@samwell70710 жыл бұрын
I looked at both. Bought a Tacoma 6 speed. Idk Wtf this guy is talking about on interior. The frontier's seat was hard and molded funny, the cab looked cheap and cramped, the back seat seemed smaller too. Ride quality? No comparison. The Tacoma feels more like a truck, even tho its lighter. Good solid shifts with the 6 speed. This whole review sounds to me in favor of the taco, end omitted.

@reef0019 for sure, we're totally splitting hairs in the end. Like you said initially, both trucks are great trucks at the end of the day. And while I have seen lots examples of both with high mileage and still going strong, I decided to give Toyota a try after owning a Pathfinder (blew it's trans at 120K miles) followed by two consecutive Xterras (both 3 yr leases). I loved all three, and I looked at Frontiers after them but decided to try a Taco and have zero regrets. Whatev floats ur boat.

You don't have to be so rude about this. Everyone has their own opinion and everything has their good and bad. I previously owned three Nissans, one was Frontier, and I had surprisingly had no issues with them. Nissan and other Japanese cars are known for their reliability and I think Nissan is great in general. You can't just rule out a manufacturer by judging on one product they make, thats too extreme. It Has Roll Down Windows And Manuel Locks ffs. this truck is that will be the deciding factor on if I trust Japanese brands ever again. So far so good makes a rear ticking sound o b the underside of the car and has a squeaky pully but nothing that's going to stop it. I've teen it off road and through some shallower mud and it hasn't gotten stuck surprisingly and that's with full tire pressure and 2wd.

I bought my truck new in 2007 and have not had any problems with it at all and I still love to get in and drive it as well. As for height, yes it sits higher than the Frontier by an inch. Solution step bars. Plenty of clearance when snow comes or off-roading.

I have had both Toyota and NIssan over the years and believe me, Nissan is built like a tank with a solid boxed frame. Over the years, I have had many head gaskets issues with Toyota, never an engine problem with Nissan. While both are good trucks, the NIssan really is built heavier duty. You won't bottom out with a paltry 500 pounds in the bed like Toyota, no paint issues and a legendary 4 and 6 cylinder engine that will easily pull 250K-300K miles with even marginal maintenance.
@agumon515611 жыл бұрын
Depends how you configure it. A base frontier costs more than a base Tacoma. If you go for the off road packages though with bells and whistles and consider how the Frontier has a negotiation room of about $4000 vs. the Tacoma's more limited negotiation room of $1500 or so you're looking at a much more affordable truck.

p.s., I wish Edmunds had put the two through a more rigorous technical offroad course to show things like stock suspension flex, 4x4 drivetrain performance, ground clearance/breakover clearance, approach/departure angles, maximum ledge step up height, steep rock slab climbing ability, etc. etc. Not that they would have performed much different from one another...

I have owned both Toyota Trucks and Nissan Trucks. I even owned some Datsun's, later Nissan's, back in the day. Both are good trucks! The Toyota will always be more expensive, even with the same options. However, my experience will weigh towards the Toyota for two reasons. Almost zero break-downs and required maintenance, just oil changes and tires. The Nissan's have had many visits to the dealer. Plus, the Toyota's will bring a higher resell value. You pay more up front, but get more when selling in the end. This is all based on personal ownership. Had lots of issues with Chevrolets and Fords. Would not buy either in the future based on the past experiences with them both.

Needing a truck, I bought a Frontier KC 2WD with V6 and 5-spd Auto. I like the power of the engine but thirty for fuel at 16.5 MPG. I also like the taller cargo bed (then Tacoma), the reason for needing a truck. Honda has tall (not deep) and small cargo bed (like a crew cab). I think the new stiffer truck frame goes better the more powerful V6. I like the bigger 20 gal fuel tank vs. the older 10. But last year when the fuel price was over $4 per gallon it was about $100 per fill up.

You can't force me to think the same way as you. What REALLY sucks is people going around KZbin insulting and starting arguments just because they think differently. If you had been more open-minded I wouldn't be here debating over whether Nissan is good. 'Nissan Sucks' is an opinion, not a fact. I think you're smart enough to realize that yelling at me won't get you anywhere. I am not the one who broke your car. Keep your negative thoughts to yourself. Nissan > The world.

I'm trying to decide between the nissan nismo and toyota prerunner. The nismo is much cheaper, people are way to proud of their tacoma's. I'm leaning towards the nissan after watching this because of the price and the way it drives on the road. Another thing I have noticed and seen others say is that the tacoma is way to high off the ground, strong winds on the freeway and the lightweight move it around a ton, though I haven't seen this in person it makes sense.

Both are kick ass trucks. Love my 08 Nismo 6speed tho! :)

My only problem with my 2004 Frontier is the Nissan service dept. at the dealership.

I used to own an '05 Tacoma and man i wish my dad never traded it! It was an awesome truck! I was about 12 when we bought it and i fit in just fine, (Age 12 I was 5'9") we traded the truck when I was 14 (Age 14 I was 5'11") I still fit in it. I got a ride in my friends truck which was a '08 Tacoma and I still fit in the back seat and I'm 6'2" now!!!

Nissan frontier, most reliable mid-sized pickup ever.

Haha, this video reminded me of arguments my friend and I have every time we hit the offroad trails. He has a NISMO Frontier, I have a TRD (offroad) Taco. Both are stock except I have rock sliders. No lift on either truck. He swears his NISMO is better, I swear by my Taco. We have swapped trucks for a day and both still think we have the better truck.

I owned a new Frontier a few years ago. It was assembled in MEXICO! It leaked coolant and steering fluid 2 years into ownership. I promptly replaced it with a Tacoma which I now have owned for 8 years with only a battery replacement. Nissan or Toyota? For me, the choice is OBVIOUS!

I own a 94 Toyota 4 x 4. I really hate the look of the Bigger and Grand Theft Tacoma. I would go for the simpler Frontier maybe 2010. Great video and thanks for sharing. Jesus why are so many of the trucks today so ugly?

Yes, they are both good. The difference is that you won't see as many Nissans still driving around and still capable of performing in the desert after 10 years.

In 2005 Nissan was very competitive with Toyota in that segment. In 2019 not so much. Toyota has consistently updated the Tacoma while Nissan has left the Frontier essentially unchanged.

how do y`all think the Chevy Colorado & GMC Canyon would compare against the Frontier & Tacoma ?? I may be in the market for a new truck soon.

I purchased a Nissan and I have to say they surprised me. Plus all of the innovations they are making with the Frontier and X Terra to even the GT-R, 370Z, and the Delta Wing I think they will continue to surprise. Toyota rarely makes anything new and refreshing.

nice man! Im planning to buy Toyota FJ Cruiser in the Summer. Although, I might reconsider of buying a Honda Civic, the cockpit is awesome.

I drove both pretty extensively and chose (bought)the Nissan. I think most people that get a chance to drive both trucks with an open mind would end up with the Nissan. It's just more comfortable to drive, and it's a very well built truck. Nissan also has better deals and incentives. Driving is believing.

@ollie2sik they do in the mid size trucks in fact they sell much better, but the big three comes out on top in the full size

You know what? Comfortability has a lot to do with ANY vehicle. Personally, I wouldn't drive anything that I couldn't rest and virtually fall asleep in. Plus, I refuse to sit with my knees beating against the paneling. Also, the Tacoma and Frontier both have 4.0L V6 engines. The biggest point between the two are the accessories. Other than that and cosmetics, the trucks are fairly identical in handling and performance.

@vaccumenhancer439 Faster how? Both trucks do 0-60 in identical time, and both are capable of handling speeds far greater than any speed limit on any highway. So what's the difference?
