2004 Infinity G35x with a used ECM installed to fix codes P1122 and P1126 (Electronic Throttle Control faults). The used ECM needs the keys programmed for immobilizer codes P1610 and P1611. After programming we find another issue with the MAF sensor.
Here is the closest scan tool to the model I used in this video.

You are right on this diagnostic approach. We are in a flat rate environment. If you have a ECU in hand that would be the path to least resistance. When I have a full log of cars often after spending the initial hour of diag. I move on to the “gravy train” after the workload is behind me my mind is clear and I can focus on the problem child. Even I don’t get it done that day I can marinade over it after hours and come up with a diagnostic strategy for the following day.

It was fun. A bit of your experience came through when after the immobilizer was reset and it didn't run, that you realized it had to be something else. I've never seen (other than in your book) an air filter that bad. I'm not even in the business and I get aggravated at people who don't service their vehicles. Nice video Paul.

ANOTHER SCANNERDANNER VIDEO MADE JUST FOR ME. Thanks Danner, turns out my intermittent timing issue was loose plugs (literally torqued them from maybe 9lbs to 23lbs and issue went away) not being able to ground properly. Fixed that and now chasing random stumble issues (likely related to a coil that was damaged from the plugs) and I'm getting immobilizer codes now. I LOVE OWNING A 2002 NISSAN ITS SO MUCH FUN

Just wanted to give a heads up you should write the vin from the vehicle into the used pcm. Not that big of a deal unless you have a state inspection station that compares the vin from the tags to the pcm mode 9 data then it may be flagged for potential emission bypass. Great content as always!

Is it possible that the software in the replacement PCM not be emissions compliant for that vehicle? Could that be detected during normal emissions testing?
@ednewell1847
@ednewell1847 5 жыл бұрын
@@fascistpedant758 It is possible that the used pcm calibration is not correct for the vehicle, However I would expect it to code for a specific emission concern. As far as state emission testing goes I would assume that a basic OBD plug in station would not check for the calibration but a dynamometer / tail pipe tester may fail for gross polluter

These Nissan’s often require throttle system resets, also done with the scan tool. May have fixed the original issue without the ECM swap. Issues can be caused simply by unplugging the throttle unit, or sometimes having battery disconnected too long.
@ScannerDanner
@ScannerDanner 5 жыл бұрын
if you remember in the video, I had the new (used) module installed, then I re-installed the original computer and it definitely still had those issues with the ETC system. So a battery disconnect and or ETC unplug it test, would not have worked here, but thank you for the tip! EDIT! Sorry, I misread your suggestion. I did not see a specific throttle reset other than the two I showed.

No a Nissan Boy There. Talking about scanner.... that's why I quit using snapon scanner since the 1999. In 2000 I got Autoland scanners and I understood that $4000 snapon scanner was just a code reader. Since then I have owned an Autoland I scan WT. Then Launch x431 pad and Artipad1, those are real scaners beyond just code reading. That auro thing is just and old autel from 2009. I strongly recommend you leaving snapon and getting hands on learning with An Artipad1 scanner then your life is going to change like it did to me... and you will be able to do most routines that you only do using J2534 scam box. Congratulations now you are fixing real issues....

I'm pretty sure I've proven in over 800 videos now, that the scan tools I've been using are not just code readers lol, I get what you are saying, but to downplay what I've been using as just code readers, certainly doesn't make me want to research the tools you are mentioning. Be fair with your assessment of tools and more people will listen. I get that some people have an anti-snap-on vibe about them, no matter what tools they are selling because of the cost, but to let that permeate your complete view of the company and the products is disingenuous. By the way, Snap-on will NOT play ball with me on affiliate linking for their products, so I am speaking from the heart here. I get ZERO kick backs from them.

Is it ultimately being caused by the motor in the ETC system? Or is it just a bad driver design?

@@ScannerDanner My experience tells me the ETC/ Idle air controller,/motor mounts burn it out but the lack of protection on the drivers has been a problem for at least the last 18 years. That is why the customer brought you a computer. I have even sent a couple of computers off to have the drivers repaired in the past.

How are you doing my brother love your videos hope you're doing fine doing these times I I believe the only way it would stay on is if you reset the throttle body with the foot pedal reset mode even if it's cold if you get it to reset it would stay on and let you do the rest of the diagnostic I have gone through those issues with Nissan's they are a pain to get them to run when you install a new computer or use computer you have to have them relearn the throttle body with the foot pedal accelerator it's a bit tricky with key on key off some of them 5 seconds 30 seconds key on 20 seconds key off 5 seconds I'm doing Clark Kent seems to share your opinion press pedal five times let go and hold for 30 seconds you know what I'm getting to have to follow the procedure in order for the vehicle to stay on

I have a 2009 G37x giving me that same ABS code and I haven't figured out what it means. We also just completed a head gasket job on it and I am also getting codes saying high voltage to the TPS and APP sensor and we can't figure out if it is a short or open in the wire harness or the ECM going bad. We have tried Infiniti's tech guides diagnosis procedure for those codes but it has literally gotten us nowhere. Do you have any idea how we can go about properly diagnosing the issue with this car? We are at our wits end with it.
@ScannerDanner
@ScannerDanner 5 жыл бұрын
circuit high codes are generally from an open signal circuit, but because you have multiple sensors setting these codes, you need to look at the sensor ground circuit. I bet you have high volts on the sensor ground and it is because you left a main computer ground off or lose when you did the head gaskets.

@@ScannerDanner sorry for the late reply. Also thank you so much for responding I wasn't expecting it. Normally when I ask anyone questions on here like this they don't respond so I have some serious respect and gratitude for you taking the time to help me with this. I checked over my ground and did find a ground that was a bit coroded that grounds the ECU although it seemed like it was still making contact but I did thoroughly clean it with electrical cleaner and a wire brush. I looked over the rest of the car and everything seems to br grounded in its original place and making contact so I'm not sure what else to check ground wise. I am going to try to start it with the new throttle body tomorrow when it arrives and see what happens. I will let you know what ends up happening. I also ran a self diagnostics check through the Infiniti secret menu that I just learned about yesterday and the ECU says it is fine so I knownthe ECU itself being bad can be ruled out. Really awesome that rhey incorporated tech like that from Airplanes into the thing it helps diagnosis a lot.

So some cars can have a maf and a map? My 06 Saturn Ion definatetely had s map. I changed it because the car wouldn't idle. I'd stop at a stop sign and it would stall. Always restarted thank god. Checked codes and had a map code. But I also swear that I had a maf on the air intake tube. Then watching videos on youtube I got the impression that a car had one or the other but not both.

Dude I dig your approach, but there are a few concerns that should be brought up (IMHO): First and foremost if a customer brings you a part like this they are responsible if it does or does not work, or if it gets damaged due to any shorts/faults (iac motors used to take out the older nissans in a heartbeat). Mopar is really bad trying a swap approach as you can lock out the tipm, IC, BCM, all at the same time. IATN is your friend for validity on this. Second is that Infiniti had a tsb for the aftermarket air filters disintegrating and messing up the maf readings to the ecu (pcm). I try to do a preliminary inspection on any car, which one is checking the air filter, even on the very hard to get to ones, but I might have done the same exact thing and dove right in. I find a shit tard of stuff in prelims. Don't take these things the wrong way. I actually learned something about reprogramming a key to a used ecu. Very impressed by that. Always thought you would have to have a NATS code for this. I want to register my shop for NASTF, but the r.o.i. is just not there. Maybe if business grows. You so rock. You are not a parts changer, but have a realistic approach to this trade. Really liked the one of your 'last' (ha ha) evap diagnosis. Honda? Did'n show smoke, but it showed bubbles! And your gut was right about that one. I hope you get a chance to come out to CA some day. Jimbo Eve's Automotive

agree 100%, I was taking a chance at plugging that new module in without verifying the ETC motor wasn't shorted! From what I learned from the customer (and didn't make clear), is they already plugged it in and verified security codes only and brought it to my friends garage to have it programmed. That was why I really didn't bother to check, I figured any damage would already be done and to be honest, I was short cutting this one a little. My main intent of the video was to show the Autel/Auro capabilities, and then of course other things showed up along the way :-) Thanks man

I could have finished it, but I didn't want to run the car anymore and the idle was okay, so I let it go. No, you don't want to alter or fool the engine computer with engine temp readings, because the entire fuel curve and even idle speed is affected by it.

@@evodog2300 It absolutely is not the ECU. It is very common to have a valve related problem do exactly what you are describing. Even with compression testing good (static). You can try doing a running compression test. That may reveal the issue. Also, take a look at a vacuum gauge connected to your intake. See if it is lower than normal and if you have a needle nounce.
