I have A Leaf 62kw and love it. Excellent acceleration 40 to 70 range which is where you need it. Not impressed with Reviews that say it’s obsolete as it’s not in my opinion. It is a very reliable and proven design with a better price point Than some of the newer competition. No one pays the sticker price as Nissan discount it quite a bit thus beating the newer Offerings.

air cooled battery suffers tremendous degradation in first 50k miles. 15-20% lower max range vs liquid cooled batteries which are less than 10% degradation at 200,000 miles - batteries which have higher ranges for the same price as the 68kwh leaf.

Very valid points about Nissan vehicles in general, but would still have been appreciated to have seen a slightly less dated look.

Looks are subjective - but most would prefer say, the interior on a modern Audi vs a dated looking Nissan. Here, the Audi interior is still practical, but yet looks all that much more premium.

I have a 2019 leaf tekna, 40kwh battery pack. I drive it for one year already. I love it everyday. It has by far the largest interior space and storage space in its class. Design is beautiful. I love the old fashion interior. Yes it is not the latest technology, not the most efficient maybe. But it is the most reliable car in its class. For my work, I drive many different ev's. Leaf is the most fun to drive and the most comfortable one. E-pedal and pro-pilot is amazing

@@TotallyEV I live in The Netherlands. It is a flat country. Winters are here windy and rainy. Temperature is around 5-6 celcius during the day. I have a range of 180-190 km in the winter. Summer goes up to 230-240km. I noticed that a strong headwind reduces the range significantly which happens here a lot. But overall it is never an issue for me. I did 18,000km in one year time. I drove to Belgium and Germany a couple of times. Max of 500 km daily trips. Never had a range anxiety.

Best EV for my money due to ----- 1 reliability and 2 Safety. Eg you mention the Zoe with a NCAP --- 0 out of 5 Stars!! I could continue with and the other cars but have not got the time today. I am not a Nissan owner, in fact I have only had Fords and Saabs. Great cars but Nissan are also a very good manufacturer. The leaf has developed over the years and is still an excellent car which is head and shoulders above the others you mention. Thanks for your time, John Osborne

If you want to carry anything that matches the length from the rear to the rear of the Front seats having it slope upwards cuts down the chances of it going you in the front seat under breaking and at the rear being up against a higher lip again helps it from sliding back. Flat is OK if you have straps to hold long items

Depends on the length of what you want to carry, but good point nevertheless.

Nice car, really thinking about getting one of these, think the driving in bad weather with these like any car just drive gentler and too the conditions of the road, I had a 2017 Mustang before I traded it in for a Kia Sportage due to kids getting too tall for rear seats in Mustang and I drove it in snowy conditions we get in Scotland pure white outside an 4 to 6 inches of snow an got to work no problems but had to drive in snow mode with a gentle foot an gentle on clutch too, I'm all for getting one of these longer range leafs, be fun at traffic lights lol 👌🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Good review but I don’t think the car you were reviewing is not a rival to a Zoe at that price point. I think the 40 kw is a better alternative to use as a comparison and good value. But other than that I agree with your thoughts on the car me personally didn’t choose to buy one because a lot of the tech is outdated ie sat nav I know you have Apple CarPlay. I also prefer the ccs charging format. And not a big fan of Nissan dealer after care. And so for a little bit more money I chose the Kia e Niro 4 which gives you both longer range and better warranty.
@TotallyEV
@TotallyEV 3 жыл бұрын
Glad you liked the review. Indeed, would depend on the battery capacity in terms of price range. The Kia is a fantastic choice, we have it our Best Buy award - the 'issue' is that it can't really be compared to a saloon, as it's an SUV, and not everyone is comfortable with that added ride height!

Why would normal operation give you any reason to fear the battery? If purchased simply for commuting purposes of less than 200 miles per day (like nearly everyone on this planet), why would the battery need to be an issue. The Leaf's battery only becomes an issue if it's abused. It is true that without active thermal management they don't like frequent DCFC especially when ambient temperatures are above 100F. DCFC can significantly raise battery temperatures. However, for commuter applications of less than 200 miles per day you should never need to use DCFC. For such applications an owner need only ever charge at home using Level 1 or Level 2. Problem solved. The battery should return over 1000 charge cycles which at 226 mile per charge should allow for more than 200,000 miles. Having said all that I can see how this might not be the ideal choice for people that make frequent long distance drives. It would also not be the ideal choice for people living where they can't charge at home and or where ambient temperatures frequently exceed 100F. Properly cared for (avoiding frequent scenarios that cause excessive elevation of battery temperature), these batteries are no more likely to cause problems than any other, liquid cooled or not.

@TotallyEV
@TotallyEV 3 жыл бұрын
Let's see if Nissan moves away from the standard in the future!
@Urbanbenelux
@Urbanbenelux 3 жыл бұрын
If there is a problem with future proofing, it's with CCS cars. People who don't realise that CCS is a step back don't know what they're talking about. No bidirectional charging so CCS cars are useless for a solar owner. Chaoji will become the universal standard and cars with CCS ports will be utterly useless for solar owners. Home batteries are more expensive per kWh than an EV, Chademo cars will have great residuals in the future. People say that CCS is the future parroting some European EV manufacturers who want to take market share from Nissan, the reality is that CCS is a step backwards. Chaoji will be capable of 900kW and will be compatible with all standards while also allowing bidirectional. Game over CCS parrots. People who speak in favor of CCS don't even know what bidirectional charging is and how you save tens of thousands thanks to it. If you have solar panels, how do you power your heat pumps and fridges at night? Ask for a quote on a Powerwall and you'll get it. One more thing, charging at over 1kW per kWh is bad for your battery, no matter how much cooling you throw at your cells. Liquid cooling systems can't cool down cylindrical cells uniformly, they only carry heat away, but at the cell level, only the parts in contact with the cooling plates see a benefit.

In Europe *EVERY* new EV including Nissan is CCS. It may hang on in Japan. With regards to bi-directional functionality it is a shame but I’m not sure if CCS can be upgraded in future to add this. Let’s hope it doesn’t set the industry back
