No ned to drain the coolant, almost none comes out (if you remove the hoses at the EGR) - and the power pins on the connector are 2 & 6, not 2 & 5! I just spent £100 unnecessarily on a new EGR because of that being wrong - thanks for that! It's not easy, but it's not all that hard. Getting the water hoses off is the hardest part, but take the left one off first (looking from the front), then take out the EGR bolts and spin the EGR round in it's socket to get at the RHS hose at the EGR - not lower down (so the only hoses are open high up, so avoiding the need to drain the system!). Symptoms of a faulty/blocked EGR are usually loss of power/stuttering/temporarily cutting out, especially at low revs. Take it off and give it and the connecting pipe and adjoining housings a thorough clean and (if not actually faulty), it should be OK.

The EGR had a 5 pin connector, 2 for the motor and 3 for the switch, no 6th pin. I didn't misdiagnose my faulty EGR, £134 well spent.

There are 5 pins and one blank space (in the middle), so six pin positions in all. They are all numbered, the last pin is pin 6.

Hi you’ve got the same type of k9k engine as me , I’ve looked and thought about cleaning the EGR but the lack of access has put me off. Did the cleaning make any difference? And were there any probs before cleaning cheers for the g8 video.

Hi, it wasn't a valve cleanliness issue. Later in the video I test the valve operation and discover the valve doesn't open. The EGR had to be replaced, see my 2nd video were I operate the new valve if you want to see a correctly working valve.

If its cold where you are then the battery might be struggling, use a volt meter and check battery voltage.

I took my Renault 1.5 dci EGR out. Its the same one as in this video ( liquid cooled ) and I cleaned it up. It takes alot of pressure to open by hand and has to be pushed back in by hand too. Its not putting out any fault codes but, could this be a faulty unit? I see a slight drop in acceleration. I cleaned it up well and did a Renault Clip tool based EGR Adaptive, its improved it since but I still have a feeling its not performing as it should. Does the Valve return to closed position itself or it doesn't matter since the motor would close it on and off?

I think your valve (poppet valve) is still too tight if it doesn't close by itself. Maybe more cleaning required and repeated manual operations to work it loose.

@@tonywhitwham7604 thanks man. I think since the car's run 1,91,600 kms in 11 years I'd rather do it right by replacing it. Its expensive hence the efforts to try and find any fixes that have worked. You're very kind to help me with this input and your YT. Thanks man :)

What behaviour did you get with the car with the egr not operating?

No noticeable change in performance. The valve failed in the shut position and the warning lights came up on the dash. My OBD2 reader confirmed the EGR fault, I could clear the fault but it would come back after a few driving miles.

@@tonywhitwham7604 can you remember what error codes you got? Or what was happening? I have a k9k 1.5dci juke with similar engine and awkward locations. I am getting a red engine warning light and low boost pressure (and air bypass valve issue) Replaced boost solenoid and I think this is the next piece of the puzzle. I have almost no boost at all but other than that it runs ok Thanks in advance!

I would get someone to press the throttle and I'd put my hands over the air discharge pipe from the turbo compressor and see if there's an air leak. The car did previously split one of the plastic pipes and that had to be replaced.

I don't recall the error codes, I have a £20 obd2 code reader, its very useful for this type of work.

the whole point was to shown how its done start to finish if your going to post more videos by camera specs they are cheap now and reshoot the whole thing people will love you.

Any ide what this could be? Car was completely low on power and had a glow plug circuit open code. I've changed the fuel filter and car is driving fine now pottering about in town, but when I go on country roads and put my foot down above 50mph, red engine light comes on, car is low on power and won't let me rev higher than 3k rpm.

What I would do is use my OBD2 code reader and find out what the engine warning is and go from there. A basic code reader costs about £25, they are handy to have.

Hey Tony, thanks for the help, I got an app and a Bluetooth one last week! I found out what the problem was this weekend, it was the boost solenoid vale, think Euro Car Parts called it pressure converter right at the front of the engine. Changed that, and car is running with full power once again. Thanks! :)
