Hey Byron, just to confirm, you said TDC with 1-2 rocking, that is clear but are you saying that while it is still on TDC after adjusting 1-2 rockers I then do 4-5 and 8-9 without turning the crank? Then I crank it 360Deg and do 3 6 7 10 11 12? love the vids buddy.

Gday mate Yeah thats right ive got to do this job this week Giving my old patrol a birthday haha take it easy mate 👍
@Nick-sd7um3 жыл бұрын
A really helpful video for me mate thank you. I want to have a crack at this myself but the only thing I was hoping you could clarify for me is visually confirming the TDC part. From what I understand (your vid and workshop manual) cylinder 1 will be at TDC when the mark on the crank pulley and timing cover are aligned with one another which seems straightforward. My question is just about visually confirming TDC for adjusting 1, 2, 4, 5, 8 & 9. My understanding is that you can visually tell you're at TDC to adjust the first sequence of valves (I mentioned above) based on two things: 1. The mark on the crankshaft pulley and timing cover are aligned, and 2. Valves 1 & 2 will have clearance I.e. both valves of cylinder 1 will be closing and the inlet of cylinder 6 will be starting to open. After that first sequence is done, rotate the crankshaft pulley 360 and align the marks and then repeat for the remaining valves. Does it matter if you rotate clock wise or anti clock wise? Lastly and before starting the car, do you need to rotate the crankshaft pulley back to TDC (cylinder 1) or back to its original position before you even rotated it at all? Or is it fine to start no matter where you rotate the crankshaft pulley? Sorry for all the questions
@downtheshedwithbyron3 жыл бұрын
Gday mate I would still continue to rotate the engine clock wise and it will be fine to start after the jobs done. 👍

Excuse my ignorance mate, but why would it be necessary to adjust your valves frequently?
@downtheshedwithbyron4 жыл бұрын
G'day mate just referring to the workshop manual or if you're doing Heavy Towing or hard four-wheel driving all the time and all you'll be doing is checking them. I've been across the Nullarbor and back and probably done another 20000+ since I last done them and only had to just a couple. Hope this helps you mate 👍
@spoofking914 жыл бұрын
Down the shed with Byron Legend, thanks mate! Silly question but if you don’t adjust the valves frequently on a TD do you run the risk of your valves hitting the pistons? Or is that more so if your motor is incorrectly timed? Hope the old girl went well on the Nollarboor 👍🏼
@jimonhisown3 жыл бұрын
the term rocking relates to valve overlap on the companion cylinder. ie if you have the engine at TDC No1 then its companion cylinders valves will be rocking. Ex valve closing, intake opening in DOR. Rotate engine counterclockwise inlet closing exhaust opening this is what we call the rock or valves rocking due to the motion of the rocker arms. You never set the gap on rocking valves because the valves are not fully closed. This is a common mistake and misuse of the terminology.
