Just for curiosity, do you know the fuel consumption in off road terrain? In my case, I have 2 Ford Super Duty's, one with the 5.4 2v petrol and the other one with the 6.0 diesel, I can tell you that with our average city speeds (20km/h) they get 26-27l/100km. P.D. : I have a Suzuki Alto 800 for daily use, 5l/100km, so no problem at all 🤣🤣 Edit: greetings from Costa Rica, really great videos, thank you for sharing them.

Odd that you get 20L/100km towing your 2tonne popper. I towed a 2 tonne MDC camper from Mandurah WA to Darwin and averaged 15L/100km at speed limit (100kmh) and that is taking into consideration no 95 octane available for 1000km in the Kimberly.. I was super impressed. Admittedly I had 33" tyres and only a steel bar on the front, standard height and no roof rack. Regardless, stoked with the economy and power of the car. 60 meter road trains were a blur as I squirted past them with ease.

Good one. There's so much diesel snobbery out there. I drive a Toyota FJ Cruiser and as you know there's no diesel option, but I wouldn't want diesel anyway. In sand it's unstoppable, and petrol is the preferred engine for sand anyway. On the highway, I've seen averages of 20/100 but that's absolutely flogging it - cruising at 150k - it'll do it easily enough or faster, but fuel economy drops off really quickly. On the sand, depending in how you drive, it could be anywhere north of 20, but in the dunes we drive, I'd be very surprised to see any diesel get up them - just not enough power, and if they did, their fuel economy would be just as bad or worse.

With diesels you can drop ur speed to hit ur sweet spot on rpm and u stay fuel economic but with petrol u have to stay higher rpm to get ur tourqe for hills but I do like the y62 but I do think a diesel would bring in a whole new level of awesome and they would be a lot more popular as tow rigs

Has anyone replaced the gas engine with a diesel one? Mate, I know - when you love a car, you say everything nice about it and you don't want to move away from it... It's because you love it. It doesn't matter if it has an ugly ass, as long as you love that ass... I have a Patrol Y61, fully kitted with 33 inch tyres and I'm needing around 11 liters/100km - with a rooftop tent on it. Gasoline engines will always "eat" more than diesel ones. On the other hand, gasoline engines are easier to maintain, so it could be that gas will cost more, but the overall costs will be similar. To be honest, the consumption is a very relative thing as long as you love the car. Using a Patrol for getting a good fuel consumption is like bombing for peace.

You talk about how much your trailer weighs, but not what the combined weight is, that’s the only weight that counts. We have figures towing a little over 7.1t for 45000ks around australia with the better part of that attached to the van. Using a combination of 98, when we could get it, 95 & 91. We really couldn’t tell the difference between the 91 & 98 when towing unless you wanted to tear off from the lights or stick it going up every hill just to maintain your speed. So far we have averaged 27.66 L/100 running standard dia tyres. This is a trip from Vic, across the paddock up the coast of WA, Darwin, back down the west coast, across the Great central Hwy & are now in the township of Moonta SA. My friend that travelled with us for the first 25000ks has a 200 series weighing in 150kgs less than us has an average of 23.3L/100… I wish.

A lot of people are Genuinely interested in what the fuel usage is? I have a 4.8L petrol patrol, so if you tell me you are doing 20-30L/100Kms i'm happy. And people act like other cars use 0L/100km, and that 20L is 20L more than they use, not 5.

If you think your gold is efficient! 🤭 You need to look into the BMW X5 40D & even better M50D And they weigh well over 2.5ton with efficiency of as low as 5.5L per 100ks! For the M50D 🤯
@chichotwojay7403 жыл бұрын
You wouldn’t want the triple turbo m50 out bush. The n57 is an excellent engine from its base form to the TU Top Super 50. The work of getting one in a patrol, have the cluster work properly, and integrate the immensely complex bmw high speed can busses and digital diesel electronics (DDE) is beyond practical. They’re too flashy an engine that I’d want to have in the Simpson desert for instance. Because of their insanely low tolerances and strict parameters, they don’t like shit quality diesel. Servicing and general maintenance requires bmw special tools and diagnostic equipment-to maintain warranty-. I hated working on these engines, but loved driving them. Even the 30d spec would walk ‘fast petrol sedans’, let alone the 40d. The 50d is in a class of its own. If anything as a former bmw tech I am a 50d fan boy, but still wouldn’t want one for anywhere but the streets. But yes, you are correct in their insane economy. You can blow the doors off that piece of shit Subaru sti next you getting onto the freeway, and then settle down to cruise with sub 7L/100km in a big heavy X5

So it absolutely sucks the fuel out is what your saying? Fully loaded Range Rover sport pulling 3 ton and we get 14/l with a v6 TD. I think you should get some education on towing and diesels mate and you'll save yourself thousands. The Navara NP300 towing the same van gets 16/l per hundred. If you weight fuel cost into all our equations the diesel makes so much more sense. Just re watch your video and run the numbers. My gcm in the Navara is 5.9 ton and yours is 7 ton. The only difference is the ton extra the Y62 weights, and I get about 10/l per hundred better economy from a 2.3L. I will say though airbags are a must in the Navara. Just admit it, she is a thirsty fuel sucker that doesn't have a diesel purely because it was designed for an Arab market 😂😂😂😂. But a very nice car none the less.
@DASHOffRoad7 жыл бұрын
Not arguing with you Ben, she loves to drink. I don't know a Y62 owner out there that buys it for fuel economy though. Its the total package that makes us so passionate about this platform. It tows very well, goes up any sand hill you point it at, can carry 8 people in comfort and turns heads on every 4WD track. You can't have all that and 10LPH too, especially for a car that cost me $60k new
@s1rx797 жыл бұрын
And all you will do with the rangie is drive the blacktop towing it would seem. A stock rangie with no mods yes & they are a great engine nice cars but nearly twice the price & who in their right mind would own one out of warranty?? All the rovers still, like usual, play up regularly like old second hand lawn mowers! Same weight would see approx 19s on the y62 patrol. The np300 would be at its maximum & very poor performance. The y62 is far more versatile even if thirstier. Fuel economy & especially diesels ain't the only way.. perhaps you need to stop living in the past & re-educate yourself on the new petrol engines about to hit the market... compression ignition, variable compression ratio tech with 30% better fuel economy then current DI engines.
