Thanks for sharing. This particular cooling system is supposed to be filled with a vacuum type coolant refill kit though, otherwise you have to jack the front end up really high while running the engine with both front and rear heat on in hopes of getting the system purged of air from several run and cool cycles.

Appreciate the view. Yes it is difficult to get the coolant to fully purge. That’s why I do it on a inclines driveway. Helps get out the air pockets.

Hi Chris/Crystal: Are you talking about the kit that comes with a fitting for the top of the radiator that then uses a special funnel to keep everything sealed?

Best titan video I've seen yet....keep em coming

Much appreciated. Haven’t posted a video in a long time. I have lots to put up. Still active duty navy so I’m quite busy. Editing takes way more time than I realized.

I have a 2005 Nissan Titan. This video compelled me to order 2 extra petcocks for the radiator just in case the same thing happens to me as I'll be doing a drain and fill on my own truck soon.

@@SideGigSquid I noticed on the 2 new petcocks there is a black marking on them near a circular indentation in the plastic petcock. So when tightened, it the marking and indentation supposed to be pointing downwards? The old petcock on my Titan loosened easily. but I haven't taken all the way out yet.

My only comment is that you didn't mention if you refilled with full strength coolant or diluted. If diluted then you will end up with less than a 50/50 coolant/water ratio due to adding several gallons of distilled water to flush. If full strength then I assume to did some rough calculations to determine how much to add. I'm currently doing this procedure and using 50/50 blue for Asian vehicles. In order to know I'm very close to a 50/50 ratio I will need to remove the thermostat, flush backwards and forwards with water and then pour coolant into the top radiator hose until it displaces the water and runs out blue. This same procedure also need to be done to the heater core. I don't think there is no other way to ensure you have a 50/50 mixture unless you use a vacuum system.

There’s not a definite way to make sure everything is 50/50 but where I live it doesn’t get cold enough for me to worry about it. When I was a kid we all just used water.

@@SideGigSquid I ended up using a shop vac to extract as much water out of the block and heater core as possible. Between the drain and vac I got about 3 gallons. It holds 3 3/8 gallons. I then filled the system completely with distilled water again. Ran for a bit. Then drained a little over 1.5 gallons. Then filled with concentrate. I'm in NE Ohio.

You do not fill the Reservoir up to the top like that 😳
@SideGigSquid3 жыл бұрын
I wasn’t particularly worried about it. There is a vent and with pressure throughout the engine it will find its way out.

No special procedure for burping the system when you refill?
@SideGigSquid3 жыл бұрын
Just run the engine and keep topping it off to get out any air bubbles caught by the thermostat and never had a problem. Thanks for the view.

1st of all you overfilled the overfill tank. You're not supposed to go pass the Max fill line? There's supposed to be room for expansion...also you forgot to mention how much antifreeze the Titan takes?
@SideGigSquid2 жыл бұрын
You know what happens to the overfill tank when it gets overfilled? It drains out. I put more than necessary so it could work it’s way through the system. You can’t really over service it. There’s a vent hose. The book says the entire system takes about 3.25 gallons. But it depends on if you cleared EVERYTHING out of your system which is doubtful. Which is why I just “put to much” and let Bernoulli, Boyle, and Newtons theories do their thing.

How do you drain the god damned reservoir - geez!!?? Why leave that? Go back and redo this.

Your performance on this pretty much makes the case to go to JL and pay the $150 - which is what you should have done. Geez - what a disaster. Idling the engine for 5 hours??? You spent more in gas than it would cost to have the dealer do the job.
