Nissan X-Trail 2021 review: Ti - Does this update with CarPlay and Android Auto suit family life?

We were going camping for the weekend and we needed a car that would fit a giant tent, a marquee, a huge esky and lots of food bags.
Would a midsize SUV cut it? The Nissan X-Trail did, plus it's an all-wheel drive, which doesn't happen often in the midsize SUV category.
I test drove the X-Trail Ti, which is the top of the range and competes with cars like the Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4.

I just bought the ST-L model and it ticked most of the choice boxes I sought. Very soft suspension and well insulated from the outside noise, and you'd need to rev the engine up a little bit to hear it above the rest of the road noise. The CVT transmission is nothing to brag about, but given the size & mass of the vehicle, it's not that bad, especially if you want to get away from having to feel every gear change, or having to change them yourself. Good ergonomics all around, especially in the driver's seat, and the foot activated handbrake is a far better option if you don't want to rely on arm strength alone. Lastly, I'm not a fan of push-button engine start & stop because after needing to use the wireless fob to get inside, it's very tempting to drop it out of you hand once inside which is the perfect recipe for forgetting it inside after you get out and walk away from your vehicle, so trips to the petrol station become veritable military missions in strategic thinking, unless you fancy letting others take it for a spin without your permission. It's also too bad that the engine doesn't stop after the fob is taken away beyond a certain distance.

It still looks like a good mid-size SUV. Hopefully, for the updated version, they will swap the position of the front centre air vents with the infotainment screen to allow for better visibility while using navigation.

This X-Trail is one of the worst models in the highly competitive market that is the mid size suv segment. Also, Nissan doesn’t have such a good rating for after-sale support, and reliability.

@@craigpodsprojames2500 Never had a problem with my Z. And have experienced the best customer service in my vehicle ownership with the Nissan. Both car and after service hsve been A-grade for the past 15 years. Sorry to hear about your poor experience. Which Nissan did you have a problem with?

New one on the horizon.... pssss...as my NIssan dealer keeps telling me, I purchased the 2020 model last year and was told the new one would not be out anytime soon so I went ahead and got this model thinking maybe end of next year or early 2023 it may arrive, now Im told its due to arrive last quarter of 2021, wtf??? Push a few months later they release this 2021 model and only thing changed was they FINALLY updated Infotainment to include Android/Car Play, I was so pissed as I was wanting that feature, instead of straight swap so I could have the updated Infotainment they said I would have to pay an additional 10k to get this model, mine was only a few months old in mint condition, and the 2021 one drops wheel size to 18" instead of 19", while I love my Xtrail even tho its outdated with manual park brake, no Android/CarPlay, no standard LED headlights, for the price and financing specials Nissan offers its hard to beat, I wish the new ones comes soon, hurry Nissan!!

Probably one of the better value for money propositions out there. Angular design still has some appeal over the soft mushy designs of today. Nissan are really struggling to create an innovative, interactive modern interior and even some of their newer vehicles are launched with outdated interiors

I'll be blunt. I can't think of a single redeeming feature about the X-trail (or most Nissan product in 2021). These cars have a habit of the CVT failing prematurely, which Nissan still haven't gotten right. However, there isn't one thing that X-trail can do better than other mid SUVs. It, not the most powerful, fuel-efficient, safest or even the best looking in its class. If anyone can enlighten me on why people buy the X-Trail in this day and age, please let me know. I'm struggling to find anything good about it.

Cause at the moment no rav4 available and dealers are doing sharp deals something like low 30s drive away. Yeah I there cvt are notorious for failing conveniently after warranty period

@@robertceroli3512 I would rather an Outlander for low 30s driveaway. Least Mitsubishi gives you a ten year warranty. Furthermore, the CVT are stronger in the Outlander compared to the X-trail

We were looking at this car because of its size and price point. If I'm not mistaken, nissan says its transmission is sealed for life whereas Mitsubishi does servicing and transmission oil changes on their cars and its not marketed at sealed for life. We've ended up going for an Outlander LS because it's got equal safety features of the nissan ST-L but cost us 4k less for essentially the same size car. We also liked the year or 200km warranty. Was a loyal hyundai buyer but they've priced themselves out of my budget unfortunately.

I said "mainstream". How many of those do Peugeot sell versus the ones from other brands like Mazda, Toyota, Honda, VW, Nissan, Hyundai and Kia? The way she describes is as if finding a midsize SUV with all wheel drive in the market is rare, which it's not!

Is it just me or does anyone feel like Nissan has lost it. I feel like the last car with “Wow” factor was released probably in 2009. All of this is before you start talking about their transmissions which are just a disgrace to society… Kia and Hyundai have rightfully taken Nissan’s place in the market and they doesn’t seem to be doing anything about it. Very curious to see the next-gen Nissan range to see if they’ve made up for an overall very sad decade considering their past greatness.

Nissan CVT transmission is not reliable. My xtrail transmission was broken down with 80,000km. And need to pay $5000 to fix it. And a lot of nissan car owners are suffering with transmission problems. 🙏 🙏 🙏 Google it about nissan CVT before you purchase it.
