I got a 200k starter from the wreckers and put it in in less than 2 hours, thanks to your tips. I noticed corrosion on the original relay wire, so I’m wondering if that was the cause of my failure. I put electrical grease on the new contact. Btw, I needed to get my car home to work on, so had my son try starting it while I whacked a metal rod against the solenoid housing. Three firm whacks with a hammer on the other end - and the beast fired up. Remember this old truck, if you’re stuck! Saved a big towing bill.

Can sometimes hit the starter several times and it will work, it just helps the brushes make contact, but only a temporary fix to get you out of trouble if it is brushes.

Seeing how the starter is grounded is the solenoid terminal not connected to 12 volts rather a ground?

Thanks, your video made the job much easier. Like I've done it before:) My 2004 T30 has a positive voltage on the starter signal wire though. When I was all finished I wondered if I should have put a bit of grease on the sprocket.

To make the job a little easier do not remove the bracket attached to the starter.Simply push down on the shifter cable in order to remove it from the bracket and pry up onthe clip holding the wire harness to the bracket.Once the starter is out remove the 2 bolts holding the bracket in place and install it on the new starter.

I believe it’s a breather line for the transmission

How many kms on your vehicle, Rudi? Mine is at 380,000 km and JUST had the first starter choke. Nice that the starter is accessible from above. Thanks for the video!
