The m226 shaft can be rebuilt with a Set10 Timken bearing set and OEM seal unless of course the shaft or housing is damaged.

YOU ARE INCORRECT. Afraid this is what happens when you create informational content without first doing some research and getting informed. The M226 axle bearings and seals can be replaced with Timken SET10 bearings and spacers set, and Dana 52765 seals, including other cheaper options. I've seen several people posting on social media and forums, over the last few months, asking why they have to replace their entire axle just for a leaky seal, or bad bearing and they all seem to point back to this video. Please do the community a favour and remove this misinformed nonsense.

We are talking about an actual OEM replacement. Thats good info you provided, but it's irrelevant.

Starting at 0:57 seconds, you simply said that the entire axle as an assembly needs to be replaced and I quote, "if you have a leaky axle seal you have to replace the whole axle shaft". Also, how is anything in my original comment irrelevant? Timken bearings are arguably at least as good or outperform what ever Nissan uses as their OEM. Furthermore, Nissan doesn't manufacture bearings and has been known to use NSK, NTN, and KOYO bearings. The rear axle is a Dana 44 variant so why not use seals sold by Dana? Not sure where exactly you're going with this video.

I had original seals on my 10yr old d40 before buting my d41.. zero leaks..but i will be looking to change the seal and not the whole axle if i ever have to

Just did my wife’s N50 Dana M226 seal replacement on my driveway last night. No special tools required besides the cheap shop press. Kit comes with seal,bearing,spacer and snap ring for $130 with shipping against Nissan’s $800 axle shaft plus shipping. Less then 2 hours job,including cleaning the dust cover from leaked oil.

Can you get replacement axles non loaded for m226? I nicked the sealing surface on the axle seal surface getting prior bearing off, but I already have a timken replacement bearing and seal.

I have this same issue. Was trying to remove my axle due to a leak and one of the four bolts snapped and turned out to be seized. I had to do some damage to the flange to get it off. I cant find the axle assembly online from any regular parts dealers. Also can I just have someone rebuild the axle I removed? Would that be cheaper? 2012 pro 4x.

If you have a pro-4x you have to buy the complete assembly.

The D41 M226 axle shaft can be rebuilt as well with the same bearing and seals from the previous gen.

It’s mechanical malpractice to not extend the rear diff breather on an “offroad” billed vehicle. They extended others up too the engine bay or top of the bell housing so why not the rear axle?!?

Manufacturers can't build every vehicle to have it capable of driving with your wheels fully submerged.. if you choose to, then get the extender installed yourself
