I have had the edc27 UHi for about 3 weeks now and absolutely love it! By far my favorite light to edc. I was on the fence for a long time wanting to get the original edc27 but glad I waited.

For its Sensor Protection Function, I find from mannul shows, it works when you haven't turn on the flash light. Here is from the mannual: Sensor Protection Function: When the flashlight is off, if there is an obstruction near the light outlet and the flashlight accidentally accesses HIGH /TURBO / STROBE, the flashlight brightness will automatically decrease to 200 lumensto prevent overheating and prolong the lifespan of the flashlight. The sensitivity of the sensor may differ due to variations in the color and material of obstructions. Once the obstruction is removed, the flashlight will return to the previous brightness level and turn off the sensor protection function. When HIGH/TURBO/STROBE is on, covering the light outlet will not activate the sensor protection function, and the bright ness remains unchanged.

Glad this got an update. The edc27 was honestly pretty innovative, the oled display is pretty unique in the flashlight world and the shape makes this unique as well. It all comes with some drawbacks of course but any light that shape will have those... Just look at the olight arkfeld, it doesn't have a display and only like a third of the lumens and costs more money...

Amazing! Everything you updated is why I had the EDC27 still waiting in my cart, the UHi is an easy sell for me now! Awesome. Quick question, was tying to find the color temp of the new LEDs, can you share that please?
@krico1353 ай бұрын
Thank you. This is the reason why I want to upgrade to the newer model. I found that on my EDC27, the colour temp is too yellow so I hope that the newer one is whiter. Edit: Just an update. I received my new EDC torch, and to my dismay, I found that the proximity sensor was not working on any of the high levels. Also, I wanted the torch to be a little whiter than the old EDC27 model - it was not. And the brightness levels on the newer one were not much better except mabey turbo mode. In the process of returning it now because after seeing this, I really prefer my old EDC27 torch for the beam pattern. Not to keen on the new spot version. They all look good on KZbin, but seeing it being used, is another thing.

@Madman65053 ай бұрын
Now that's how a flashlight video is done! Does the proximity sensor prevent the light from activating in the 1100 lumen mode? If not, is the 1100 lumen mode powerful enough to burn things close up? Thanks!
@NitecoreStore3 ай бұрын
Thank you. At 1100 L its definitely hot for extended runtimes. The sensor is only for turbo.
@Madman65053 ай бұрын
@NitecoreStore looks like they made the best version yet! My only concern now is that at least one of the lockout stages should prevent damage/ injury on all output levels.I mean why have a lockout at all if there's still a chance of it coming on in your pocket?
@Let_there_be_flashlight3 ай бұрын
The sensor activates on the High (1100), Turbo, and Strobe settings, but only when the light is initially turned on. For example, if you block the head and turn on the light to the 1100 mode, the beam will decrease to 200 lumens. Removing the obstacle will return the beam to 1100 lumens, and it will maintain this brightness even if you block the beam again, until the light is turned off. I guess the idea behind this design is that the sensor is to prevent overheating when the light is accidentally turned on, but if you are holding the light, you are in charge and are responsible for how you use it.
@Madman65053 ай бұрын
@Let_there_be_flashlight thank you for that clarification. I'm going to pick one of these up.

its nice to select the britness before turning the Flashlight on. But why cant i do that when the flashlight is in half- or full-lockout? EDC25 and new EDC27 should have the Lockout-switch from EDC33 and EDC35

They put in the inhouse built UHi20 LEDs to increase their profit margin, I still prefer the floodier beam of the Luminos SST40 in the original EDC27. And it still comes with that cumbersome electronic lockout, what the heck Nitecore?
@mikeenslin30093 ай бұрын
They doubled the candela, I see it as a win. It's also a round emitter which is quite special. Noone in the flashlight community likes the sst40, it's an outdated and shitty emitter, glad they changed it.

Will Nitecore consider a future update where the battery replacement is user-friendly, or a two-way charging so it could be used as a portable charger too? Would also love to see better IP rating! For now I'm definitely getting my hands on one.

Feeling like a gerbil on a wheel, while Nitecore creates incremental "upgrades," which with a bit more restraint might have given us a finished product on the first go-round. We are unfortunately being made into beta testers.... 😢🔦😢

I dont get why they produce square flashlights that have such poor performance? The Fexin PD36R and puts out 1600 lumens for 2 hrs 50 minutes, 800 lumens for 5 hrs 49 minutes, 350 lumens for 8 hrs 24 minutes, 150 lumens for 26 hours, and 30 lumens for 115 hours. It is just over an inch diameter, and less than 5-1/2 inches long. The optional battery can also be charged via USB-c and can be a backup power for your cell phone in an emergency. These should be way better than that! The Fenix is more of a spotlight with a decent spill whereas this is more of a floodlight, but performance wise the difference is night and day.
@mikeenslin30093 ай бұрын
Any square shaped light is gonna perform much worse than a regularly shaped light. That's because the batteries are smaller and they heat up quicker as well as less space for large leds and reflectors... If you want maximum performance, don't buy this form factor. No need to bash new designs, performance isn't everything, it's how you use the light... Any flashlight these days does the job
