Its really sad that nitro is no longer as popular as it once was especially in the bashing community. Its very much still alive when it comes to RC Racing but its becoming rare to see any new Nitro Releases from the big manufacturers (Nothing good in years IMO)! Electric has just come so far that they have kind of made Nitro RC redundant. The starting issues, maintenance and tuning problems so many people face especially newcomers just puts people off instantly. Electric is the way to go these days but nitro should definitely be explored at least once by any 'Serious' RC hobbyist! Let me know if you agree or disagree! Only 2 days to go to win a Brand New ARRMA Fury/Vorteks Enter to win here: raffall.com/beyondrc

Another thing you didn't mention are the Karens. I remember running my nitro buggy in the backyard for about 2 minutes, and some old karen across the street from me came barrelling over to tell me I'm "bEiNg A dIsTuRbAnCe". So 10 minutes later I got my 2 stroke leaf blower out (which is about 5 times louder) and started running it at full noise, and she didn't say a damn thing........ 🤷‍♂

Electric is cheaper, faster, more powerful, easier to start, easier to maintain, easier to upgrade. There's more platforms you can do with them from crawling to bashing to racing. You can run them indoors and people won't hate you when you run them outside. Nitro is a nostalgic niche now, it's only cool for the sound and smell.

Unfortunately for nitro, electric technology has come so far - not to mention the simplicity of plugging in a battery and having a rip. I don't think nitro will go extinct completely because there are still plenty of folks that enjoy them, but I do think it will end up on the endangered species list in relation to the number of drivers in the hobby overall.

Love the sound of nitro cars, especially with 2-speed. I only run Nitro once to twice a year nowadays. Nitro fuel is expensive and in the EU only with 16% nitro content available, which is a shame. Most of my nitro cars have 3.5 ccm and big block engines, which i've run with 25% fuel, so with the new 16% fuel the head clearance of all this engines has to be reduced. I have the feeling the feeling, the EU will restrict the acces to nitro fuel even more in the future..

Those that don’t sell them will be stuck with them forever because nobody else will want them. Other than the people that don’t know they are pointless or those that think having an RC with an engine that requires fuel is more of a grown up RC & the electric RC are for kids or something. Either way the only real reason they are still around is because it has a psychological hold Especially when the people & the manufacturers don’t want to let go of the past.

They were really popular in my area around the early 2000s. Crazy to think that was 20+ years ago, but it seems just like yesterday. I think you nailed it on the state of nitro in 2024 though. I was never really a fan because of the noise, and I was already messing with small block V8s and learning to be a civilian Airman at the time. So, messing with all that never really appealed to me.. but if you race them, really love them, or want to learn how internal combustion engines work and how to tune them.. then nitro is where it's at! Noise is the biggest problem with nitro, you will always get complaints from neigbours or people in the area. Electric they dont even know your there half the time, so not disturbing anyone. There's limited places especially in the UK where you can go that is far enough out of the way to run nitro, without noise complaints. Also some of the petrol or gas cars these days, that have tuned engines complete with unsilenced tuned pipes noise is off the scale. To the point where the driver has to wear ear plugs to protect there hearing, they can be that noisey. It dosen't help where people these days are so aware of enviromental issues re noise & complain.

Im 57, used to run nitro back in the day because they were fast and you got a decent run time out of them, a fast(ish) electric buggy was lucky to get 5 minutes out of it's batteries back then. Love the smell, but the sound reminds me of my chain saw, which is a similar PITA to start and keep in tune! The small 2-stroke gasoline engines, on the other hand, those remind me of my dirt bikes so all good there! 😁

Our group ran nitro only for years back in the day. I was the first to put a brushless system in along with some lipos. It was over for nitro at that point for us. This was when chargers weren’t really available or brushless systems. But we knew what was coming. Nitro is always cool though, I just don’t want to tune anymore.

My first hobby grade was a nitro Rustler in the late 90s. I had no clue what I was getting into and almost gave up a few times but here it is 2024 and that same car is still running strong. I definitely agree for a large percentage of rc enthusiasts nitro is not the way to go! I think to have them and be able to enjoy them you have to just have a special place in your heart for them!

My mate had nitros back in the day when we was about 18 they was good when they ran but taking out and not being able to start it sometimes then pull starters breaking. I’m 38 now and been in the hobby couple years and I’ve never bought a nitro and never will I like plugging a battery in and that it it’s just works. Yeah you can refuel a nitro and go again but it simple with a battery that take a few out with ya.

is a lot easier with a Roto start/Ez start which is the only thing i will run now as it takes out all the effort of a pull starter. The amount of times i broke them back in the day was a joke haha!!

I really do love both electric & nitro, but especially to a petrol head nothing is going to beat having a real engine in a model car it’s on another level to electric; goes without saying there’s more maintenance involved but once you’ve learnt what you need to do it’s just routine! Great video, would love to see more nitro content on the channel!

I have to give you a thumbs up just for running that Hyper 7. I still have very fond memories of my car.... loved that thing! Well, except for the tuning to get the mixture just right, frequent replacement of glow-plugs ($$$), cleaning up all the oil after the run, magically ingesting a pebble into the engine even though it had an air filter securely installed, and a few other annoyances I can think of. Still, there are those days I find myself on eBay looking for a decent Hyper 7 bargain...

@@Luke-en2tkNitro engines are a labor of love because they don’t offer much as far as performance vs electric and the cheaper and the lower quality nitro engines are the ones that don’t really have any issues with starting and keeping them running but they usually don’t go that fast. Now once you get into the higher quality engines which are designed for racing you run into THEE MOST DIFFICULT ENGINES TO START! These are the most “ANAL” engines I’ve ever had to work with but they’re usually the fastest and most powerful but none of that makes a difference to me, what I find the biggest pain in the a$$ is the noise. I don’t understand how people like the sound of a bunch of mice on dirt bikes audibly sounds good? They sound terrible, not powerful but terrible and it’s not like they’re going like some “Super Speed”? They’re slow and make all this noise to end up going nowhere. I have several nitro RC vehicles but they just sit on the shelves and look pretty. Will I ever run them again? Absolutely not, I had my time with them, been there, done that. If I could find conversion kits for them to Electric I would in a heartbeat but question is,”Do I have the time to go through all these conversions I’ll have to do? Answer: NOPE. Great video brother.🤷🏻‍♂️💯💯💯👍👍👍
