As a teenager and young adult i always mocked naruto because i only had a surface level understanding of what it was about and thought it was stupid. But at about 23 i had a real streak of bad luck and was the loneliest and most depressed i had ever been in my life. For some reason now unknown to me, i decided to pick up naruto. And after experiencing his journey, i can safely say with nearly a decade of hindsight that he cured my depression and inspired me to better myself. What a truly fantastic show.

@@johnfischer_2 well you don't really have to think too deep about it to enjoy it honestly. I personally just really connected to Naruto's character. He was slighted at every possible chance by life and could very well have become a villain, but he rose above all the hatred and challenges in his life and went from being the person noone wanted around to being revered. There are several really good characters In the show besides him too, just about every villain he comes across isn't truly evil, they all have complicated pasts and motivations and sometimes that clashes with the protagonist point of view. For someone like me who was all alone when i watched the show and was dealing with depression watching naruto go through such similar struggles was inspiring. I hope that about covers it

Itachi describes this perfectly in the scene after he gets reanimated and helps seal nagato. He tells Naruto that the reason he’s come this far and was able to obtain this much power was because of his comrades. He tells him that if he were to shoulder the burden all by himself he would become like madara. It’s crazy how much insight itachi had into Naruto’s character while barely knowing him

Naruto is probably one of the most misread mangas ever. I don't know exactly why it happened, but I see so many narratives across viewers that are based on misinterpretations or straight up false informations of the story. And, to make things worse, most of these narratives kind of became a common sense. Thank you for reading this story with care and posting this. I hope more people realize that Naruto was a fantastic story that we, as a generation who grew up with it, should be very proud of.

Quite possibly the best video I've seen on Naruto. While far too many on KZbin view and mock many moments in the series, you analysed them, connected them, and exposed how they're all one piece of a whole. I've been a fan of Naruto for more than half of my entire life, and you've really hit the nail on the head with exactly why this series can dominate such a large part of one's existence. Whenever I’m feeling down, I sometimes gravitate towards Naruto for inspiration. At first, I could never articulate why I did this. Naruto is only a fictional character designed for entertainment. Those were my initial thoughts, at least. Until I discovered your videos. You helped me discover why Naruto is such an integral part of my life. I am 33 years old, and I have to say without a doubt, Naruto has changed my perspective of life and even saved it on numerous occasions. Whenever someone asks me who my idols are or who’s my favorite hero, my mind never wastes contemplation. For Naruto has been the only figure in my entire life, since childhood, that has shaped me into the astounding (and steadily growing) man that I am today. Again, your videos helps me realize why the character Naruto is so powerful. And why he will always rank number one on my list of one of the strongest influencers, best idol, and the greatest hero of all time above any human. Thank you

There is not a lot good discourse around Naruto on the internet. I consider very few people to have made something that understands the series and I definitely couldn't make something like that myself. But holy shit, this video is one of the best one regarding discussion on Naruto. You've a great understanding of the themes of this series. And you connected them elegantly. I wish people would be able to see this instead of relying on the same tiring points, how "Naruto is mainly about hard work beating talent" and how it "abandoned its themes". Thanks for you good work, sir!

The way you clarify the Uchiha turmoil should be required listening. Much of the Naruto community hates Sasuke but loves Itachi, Obito, and Madara. The fact is that Sasuke is an awesome person and he is just as compelling as the other fallen heroes who get their redemption. I love Itachi, but it’s not a blind love that sees him as perfect. It’s for the reasons you describe. A broken man who hurt others, but found redemption!

@@nozers Heck, Lee's initial idea was debunked in his side plot. We find out from Kakashi he is super talented at the Gates, when Kakashi can't open as many. He is able to use the Drunken Fist with no training. And he was so obsessed with "talent vs hard work" that he took it too far and showed of. In the forest, wanted to impress Sakura, used the Lotus and the Sound Ninja took advantage. In the Gaara fight, he never understood Gaara and crippled himself, when Gaara was able to escape his final move and he couldn't move afterwards. In a story, both characters need to conflict on an ideology. Gaara was a monster born out of hatred and love. A bio weapon created by the Sand that went out of control. He didn't care. Take Guy: he has an actual connection and point of conflict with his big guys: Kisame and Madara. His fights were much more than hard work vs talent.

Hey Spicy, I just wanted to let you know that I have gotten many hours of enjoyment from this video. I've probably watched it from start to finish three or four times now. There was something about Naruto's story that I latched onto but I only understood it sub-consciously. You articulated the deep meaning of the story, giving me the words that I could use to explain why the story is so important. Although this video hasn't blown up yet, it still has had a great impact. I shed a tear after re-watching "Uchiha Obito: The Coolest Guy" and knew that I should thank you for the video. That was not the first time I cried watching this video and it wont be the last. To me, it is not just an analysis of my favourite anime, it is a guide to avoiding malevolence and understanding how some of the warmest (fictional) individuals became evil so I can avoid the pitfalls they stumbled into. It's also a hope-filled and beautiful reminder of the rewards for facing life's challenges and staying true to yourself. From the bottom of my heart, thank you for making this video a reality.

Probably a mix of both. A lot of the ideas in this video were definitley intentional as they are directly brought up in the story, but some them aren't. But either way a lot of times themes manifest themeselves subconciously without the authors realizing it, so I think just limiting yourself to authorial intent is not the way to go. Stories are based on individual experience, not necesarily what the author intends.

Because Kishimoto respects his audience's intelligence too much. It's almost entirely subtext, and some people just struggle to understand when not told explicitly... some because they can't see it, and some because they refuse to accept the notion that subtext can exist in a story.
