The songwriters of these gorgeous tunes never get the public credit they deserve. Thank you for this one. Will share your talent with others.

This song was originally recorded by the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band on their 1994 album Acoustic. The first version to be released as a single came out in 1998 by the Country singer Melodie Crittenden under the title "Broken Road." Her recording reached #42 on the singles chart. In 2006 she recorded the song a second time as a member of the gospel group Selah. Crittenden commented on the song in publicity materials: "I got married to an amazing man at the age of 34. It isn't that I didn't want to settle down before that, I just hadn't met 'the one.' It seems society kind of puts a stigma on those that are single and thirty-something or forty-something. Let me tell you, don't listen to everyone else. God's timing is perfect! He has a plan for each and everyone of us. 'Bless the Broken Road' talks about all the different roads one goes down to find their true love. It could also be about how you met your best friend or how you found the Lord. When I would get lonely and frustrated, waiting on my husband to come along, I always tried to remind myself of one very important thing. God is in control! He's always been there and always will be. I am so thankful I handed God the reigns because, with Him, I knew I'd go down the right path." LyRicS I set out on a narrow way many years ago Hoping I would find true love along the broken road But I got lost a time or two Wiped my brow and kept pushing through I couldn't see how every sign pointed straight to you Every long lost dream lead me to where you are Others who broke my heart they were like northern stars Pointing me on my way into your loving arms This much I know is true That God blessed the broken road That led me straight to you I think about the years I spent just passing through I'd like to have the time I lost and give it back to you But you just smile and take my hand You've been there you understand It's all part of a grander plan that is coming true Every long lost dream lead me to where you are Others who broke my heart they were like northern stars Pointing me on my way into your loving arms This much I know is true That God blessed the broken road That led me straight to you Now I'm just rolling home Into my lovers arms This much I know is true That God blessed the broken road That led me straight to you That God blessed the broken road That led me straight to you.

I saw my only big band at the Midland Mall in Midland , Texas way back in the late 70's. It was held on the parking lot and these guys, The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, sounded just like they did on my LP's! A great and unique sound! They did not sing this one of course. lol

BLESSED the broken road; not BLESS the broken road. Actually, the song title is THE BROKEN ROAD. BLESS is ebonics, people. Get educated; better yet, get educated & use it.

In my opinion the original is always better cause lets face it a remake is in a huge part just copying someone else… very little originality to that…
