AR Rahmah is an innovative composer. When this song hit, even we, with our ears accustomed to massive Indian classical were completely stumped "HOW?" Every once in a while this guy will come up with a song that feels so fresh it's like listening to a new art form. The scatting type "riffs" of a sort are called bol. They basically name the drum beats used dhin-ta-ta, etc.. This is also done with musical notes with singers singing the names of the notes being hit like in the Shreya Ghoshal video of Mere Dholna where she goes ni-si-ni-sa-dha-ni dha-ni ma pa dha pa, etc. But even then, putting them together in this kind of a fresh fusion took the country by surprise. He's a good singer, but the real magic is the compositions. He got awards, of course. Mega. He's also got Oscars and such. Goes without saying.
