Well, guys, this is a trip that I had wanted to take for a very long time; however, I never got to do so, especially since I live about 90 miles away from the line. Nevertheless, I decided to come down to Camden County because of the incoming fare hikes and I had purchased tickets to explore the line before the hikes went into effect. As expected, I had to stop at the now-closed Berlin Station, formerly known as the Long-a-Coming Depot, since it is the oldest station in New Jersey. This is also a great railfanning area because of the four at-grade crossings, which provide great horn action by high-speed trains.
For the longest time, this line consisted of GP40PH-2B locomotives as the source of power for the trainsets; however, New Jersey Transit was planning on replacing them with PL42ACs. Thankfully, the plan was short-lived because the PL42ACs would rock side-to-side while traveling high speeds, thus leading to the Geeps to return to the Atlantic City Line, since they work better at hauling or shoving trains. At times, ALP-45DPs will power trainsets, but that will only occur if there is a shortage of Geeps, like there was 2 years ago, but a PL42AC will never power a train down here again.
Overall, for any railfans that do not reside in South Jersey, I highly recommend this spot; however, make sure you film trains with the Geeps preferably leading, especially since they are equipped with better K5LAs than the Comet V Cab Cars.
With that being said, the video speaks for itself, so I will leave it at that. If you guys enjoyed the video, feel free to drop a like, comment, subscribe, share the video with everyone you know, and I will see you all on the next one! :D
