NKP 587 Lives! Monticello Railway Museum documents NKP 587's brief tenure at the Monticello Railway Museum from 1994-1997. In 1994, NKP 587 was due for repairs that ITM was unable to complete at their Noblesville Facility in Forest Park. It was decided to send the engine to the Monticello Railway Museum to address a number of issues that the locomotive had. On August 30th, 1994, 587 Deadheaded to the Monticello Railway Museum. From 1994 til 1997, the locomotive underwent repairs to the tune of 250,000 Dollars. In May of 1997, Following the completion of the repair work, 587 operated several excursions for the Monticello Railway Museum to benefit the Restoration of Southern Railway 401.
