Mr Shourie... I am currently reading your book or the second time, following a stay in Tiruvannamalai and Arunachala. Science & Mysticism, to me, are the same thing... manifestations of the Self. As Sri Ramakrishan Paramahansa and Sri Ramana Maharshi have said, The Self is the only Reality (Brahman, God, Awareness, Truth) - whether an experience is mystical or not, whether it can be proven scientifically or not, makes little difference - the Mind is used to try to understand and fathom the inexpressible and unfathomable. So, to put in context, Reality or Self as far as we (in the dual experience) can understand your conclusion to the book "The real miracle in their case was their goodness, their compassion, the complete consistency of their teachings and life" - Truth is what Truth does!! Thank you for the book and thank you madam for the interview.

Arun Shourie is a leading thinker of our time and an excellent writer. He also speaks his mind so eloquently. Madhu Trehan knows to take out the best of him. But I'm surprised that being so rooted in her own country, she can't even properly pronounce Sri Ramakrishna Paramhansa and Ramana Maharshi.

This is my 2-3 rd time i'm seeing arun shourie interview on youtube and i'm truly inspired by this personality like such a calm composed and intellectual being exist who has already solved the type of problems we're seeing now and yes , in his book and writing neither did he warned about fascism but also about worst problem , we have thousand of books out there for political ideas and solution but yet we choose to sit n watch and get influence on our personal interest so fast . yes, like whatsapp university . i admire him for his such spectacular work and he and ravish kumar are the reason i feel there is still something left to save in politics . I'm currently reading the world of fatwas ni was blown how simple crime is and happens in front of us yet we choose to close our eyes. i wanted to meet you sir! and work with you and make my life worth living. the funniest thing i'm gonna take with me is how he answers to madhu ma'am question yes and no lol!

such a nice interview indeed particularly for the generation who saw rise of his investigative journalism and his combative spirit. He is equally good in this field of figuring out lives of two great and much worshipped spiritual personalities of recent times. It was a pleasure to listen to him. However I just wish to add that Shourie did not consider Gandhiji's change in opinion about annihilation of Jews by Hitler. Initially he certainly thought this problem can also have an non violent solution but as the killings increased he said ' inspite of my belief in non violence, no wars I would approve waging one war that is war against Hitler to relieve Jews of their miseries...

Sam Harris is like Arun Shourie of USA. Arun Shourie is one of the greatest minds in the country. you may disagree with him on the latest question over press freedom but we must respect the man for his intellectual honesty in his creations.

I have a lot of respect for both Mr. Shourie as well as Ms. Trehan. A part of the perceived "problem" re our gurus is our own misunderstanding of the role of gurus in our spiritual evolution. We all go with our laundry list of problems to the gurus and expect miracles. We ourselves, individually and collectively, have defiled the potentially noble and enriching Guru/sheshya relationship. I am not a scholar of our Shastras by any means, but whatever little I know informs me re the tremendous insights the Rishis have had into the workings of the human mind. I follow Sri Sri because he does not perform miracles (although his devotees would disagree). I follow him because he has taught me how to live in the present moment, fully alive and participating in everything that I ought to. I am a physician and a family man, so am reasonably busy. The combination of Yoga, Kriya, Sahaj meditation, Vedic knowledge, etc, has brought a slow evolutionary change in my persona by naturally enhancing qualities such as empathy, compassion, love, etc, while decreasing negative thoughts. I would suggest that both Ms. Trehan and Mr. Shourie take up these modalities from him or any other Guru and try these for a reasonable period of time. You don't need to be a devotee, just a faithful practitioner. Only then would they have the right qualifications to delve into this field....my two cents worth..with deepest respects to the intellectual prowess of both these amazing individuals...

I'm sure Mr. Shourie would have sung in a different tune, had Modi made him a minister! From writing books on Missionaries, to Fatwas, to criticizing Ambedkar, he has suddenly decided to annihilate his own image/legacy. It appears that he is finding solace in Buddhism (or so he claims)... so, from criticizing Muslims, Christians, he has taken the Hindus to task. Now, assuming Modi wins in 2019, will Buddhists and Dalai Lama be the topic of his next book? Arun Shourie is a case of senility / a loss of mental faculties.

Great man Mr Arun Shourie. Philosophy may not be polished as the Dalai Lama but what a man. Real Karma Yogi. Greatest and cleanest mirrors India has got in field of politics. He has know how of cosmic world, and anatomical science as well. This was bit surprise to me. Reminds me of Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan. Wish to listen him more. Summing up the discussion what I take. Life is paradoxical, you have to be detached from suffering and ( I add happiness as well) but not indifferent to those applies more so if it's someone else's.

The problem with religion is unlike science where you do the experiment first and then based on the results propose a theory which is open to challenge either theoretically or experimentally, religion proposes the theory of God first and then tries to fit all facts into the theory and the theory is closed for debate or challenge. When you can't explain, there is always the refuge, 'god works in mysterious ways' or 'science has not reached the level of explaining miracles'. And then to top it all 'what is wrong in believing in god if it offers solace to people.' So believe in a lie or let's say unproven belief just because it offers solace to people. Unfortunately in most cases the cause of solace is the biggest cause of Bigotry and Violence.

In Hinduism, even God is not outside the ambit of Karma and karmfal........As mythologist Devdutt Pattanaik points out , Krishna establishes dharma but gets Gandhari's curse....... There is no guarantee of the fruit you will get from the seed ....."phal ki chinta maat karo"......there is no guarantee that if you do good , good will follow......we only know the consequences of our actions in hindsight.

these scriptures actually talk about how the big bang occured and what changes the cosmos went through. Read the upanishads. It's hard to argue that they are highly pseudo-scientific and at the same time very intriguing. Just like vivekananda. He helped tesla with his universal model and also propounded theories before einstein which were unknown at that time

In that case, instead of us getting ino the mind of God, we are expecting him to understand Math and track and measure our Karma metrics. My own existence is first needed so that I can put the effort for God awareness. So I am the source, and I have finally found that it is all me whom I call God. Baghavad Gita (4000 BC) is part of sruti or vedic library of knowledge and wisdom in which divine avatar Krishna talks about re-incarnation in several places Bhagavad-Gita, chapter two is entitled: Sankhya Yoga: The Eternal Reality of the Soul or atman's Immortality. In this chapter of the Bhagavad-Gita are many verse references regarding the reality and science of reincarnation. Here are some relevant examples. Chapter 2, verse 13 dehino'smin yatha deha kaumaram yauvanam jara tatha dehantara praptir dhiras tatra na muhyati Translation Just as in the physical body of the embodied being is the process of childhood, youth, old age; similarly in the transmigration from one body to another the wise are never deluded. Chapter 2, verse 22 vasamsi jirnani yatha vihaya navani grhnati naro'parani tatha sarirani vihaya jirnany anyani samyati navani dehi Translation As a person gives up old and worn out garments and accepts new apparel, similarly the embodied atman/soul giving up old and worn out bodies verily accepts new bodies -- Chapter 2, verse 24 acchedyo'yam adahyo'yam akledya'sosya eva ca nityah sarva-gatah sthanur acalo'yam sanatanah Translation The atman/soul is indestructible, the atman/soul is incombustible, insoluble and unwitherable. The atman/soul is eternal, all pervasive, unmodifiable, immovable and primordial. Chapter 2, verse 27 jatasya hi dhruvo mrtyur dhruvam janma mrtasya ca tasmad apariharye'rthe na tvam socitum arhasi Translation For one who has taken birth, death is certain and for one who has died, birth is certain. Therefore in an inevitable situation understanding should prevail-- RE-INCARNATION Buddhism copied the core vedic principles like Karma, re-incarnation and yoga techniques from vedas and patanjali yoga (which is based vedic wisdom) but they (buddhists) screwed hindu/vedic Sankhya darshana to look different for the sake of it despite copying karma and re-incarnation. Buddhists don't believe in individual soul or matter or this world. What they follow is idealism. This is what happens when people blindly copy the techniques (yoga) while distorting and copying the knowledge part in a half baked manner. 9000 yr old hindu/vedic Sankhya darshana says observed (matter) cannot be perceived without the observer (atman or divine or soul) in living and non living. It was validated by Double slit quantum experiment.
