I absolutely love Perlman, his playing and his personality are equally wonderful. But, even as an intermediate violinist I can easily tell the playing is a little off. I have nothing against Perlman, with age and in front of a loud crowd instead of a silent audience performing isn't the same. However, it is undeniably a little depressing and sadening hearing Perlman's violin no longer sing like it used to.
@ikenakakensuke4755 жыл бұрын
Chris Hayes Hi, I really feel sad too. But I think it is because not only by aging but also of nervousness... I couldn’t imagine how people got stressed to play anthem in such huge number of people.... his left hand was absolutely tremored.... anyway, he is still a legend for me.
@TedCase3 жыл бұрын
It was probably really cold, thus the lack of control, and as far as the sound - remember you’re used to hearing him in beautiful halls. Here he is close mic’d outdoors with zero reverb. @@mannye any musician can honestly say that yeah perlman is aging and his technique has slightly deteriorated because of it and that's just how it is for everyone. dont gotta shit bricks over truth. perlman's always been one of my idols and inspirations but he won't ever play as good as he did when he was at his prime. just because he's aged doesn't mean he lost any respect.

@@Miguel-ks2mc You know as well as I do that that kind of "truth" is well and good in a room full of musicians, but on a public forum like this where the vast majority of people watching are possibly hearing this man for the first time can and does come across as petty and spiteful. Despite his age and whatever natural deterioration he has suffered, as we all do, he is still amazing. So, yes... I will "shit bricks" all over that crass statement. Not yours. LOL. I'm not saying Heifetz is better because the "music critics" say so. I'm not saying Heifetz is better because he's more famous. In fact, Perlman is probably more famous today. I'm saying that Heifetz's recording of the Star-Spangled Banner is better. It's much better actually, and Heifetz was the one who made this arrangement. Look up the recording on KZbin -- I already said the recording's on KZbin, so I don't know why you're asking me if I've heard Heifetz play this lol. And don't be ridiculous.
