Hi please am kinda confused when it comes to server,is the windows 2016 server a program you install into the central unit for it to run as the operating system in that machine??Or is it a program you install in a machine which already has its OS running and it is running ontop of the OS or it is just a machine on its own??
@ammranjm20006 жыл бұрын
How do you expand the C: Drive Space, system came preconfigured and don't want to wipe it again to fix issue.
@NLBSolutions6 жыл бұрын
Hi Ammran, it depends if your server is virtual or physical. I would suggest you to try and remove or move something from the C partition, if possible.
@GizmoFromPizmo6 жыл бұрын
I would use Windows Backup to do a Bare Metal Backup (or whatever they're calling it these days) and restore it to a larger disk. You can then use Disk Manager to expand the volume. It's a simple fix UNLESS your server is booting to a UEFI partition, at which point, you have to use a third party solution to perform the same function I described at first. MacriumSoftware has a 30-day trial you can use to back up the OS, swap out the hard disk (to an SSD, hopefully) then restore it. It's a fast and easy project.
@markrabanillo99115 жыл бұрын
you can go to disk management then try to allocate blank partition to your drive C:

I wasn't make any backups of config (I know that was stupid) and too many things was broken (cluster connection, GPO, DNS Server, Certifications and some more), so I decided to install and config server from scratch because on first installation server was configured to standard settings without so many options that's is requireby our employes. How can I restore this two servers to factory mode? I've serials keys to them so can I install new system from scratch or can I do restore to factory settings like in Windows 10?

can i install domain controller and SQL server in one windows server 2016 please reply
@NLBSolutions7 жыл бұрын
Hi Amrish, depends if this is production or dev environment. In production I would not suggest for you to combine the roles. If it is in dev you can, it is possible. Also you might want to look into Small Business Server solutions.
@rustykoenig35667 жыл бұрын
kinda what NLB said...... If it is dev or even a "home server".... well.... as I have one and when I went to install SQL I seen that warning that even microsoft says "DONT DO IT, IT MIGHT FUCK UP" as you try to install it on a DC. I said fuck it... what is the worst that can happen.... I would have to crash the server and start over and loose the 20 mins I just spent getting my fresh install up to that point. Well.... SQL installed fine and I heard no more fuss about "BEWARE". SQL seems to work just fine on a DC. Now... with that said..... On my system I have found that it has a problem with connecting to it using the "windows authentication" mode for connections. Even if I use my main "created domain administrator user" that I added to all the groups my research says it needs to be a member of and have SQL set to Win Auth or Win Auth/SQL auth it just says fuck you.... here is a error and you cant log in for connections but If I use SQL auth mode for connect, everything runs smoothly. My "server" is my "server".... as in the system houses my DC, DCHP, DNS, WDS, IIS, ect... ect... (insert all the YOU ARE DUMB ASS COMMENTS HERE lol). Well.... It is an old build.... even obsolete by today's standards but not SUPER ancient. 3gz, 4gb ram, dual core system that I threw together for "free" from my junk pile. It runs our home network just fine and allows me to fiddle with enterprise grade server OS (microsoft solution enterprise anyway). I can configure our "micro net" in any way I want to or need to for learning purposes. Only thing I don't have is a real "switch" to play with with but I can do pretty much any "scenerio" minus the switch. SQL has ran just fine on my "all in one" box. Now.... If you are hosting a "real" network (not that mine isn't "real") where you are responsible for several clients to a shit ton of clients, you would lose more (a LOT more) if your stuff said fuck you I don't work no more. Now you have a LOT of pissed off people because now they are without internet/network. I have seen where people Install their AD and shit and use Virtual environment to seperate AD from their "stuff" but overall, if that box gives you problems, It is still the same thing, even though it is separated and isolated. I would go beyond that and have a totally dedicated physical box (nothing fancy) to house the DC/DHCP/DNS main system. (ya ya, insert the "but you should't run even THOSE together posts here). WIth virtualization now and clustering and failover as a standard norm now, you can still failover on other boxes, for piece of mind, yet you still have a central dedicated control system. Long answer short, it depends on what the "duties" of your "network" are.

@buder51167 жыл бұрын
is there away to make it sleep hibernate ? there no power option nor a powerffg .exe command either
@NLBSolutions7 жыл бұрын
Hi buder5, I think this could be because the idea for a server is to be up all of the time. What you can do is create a PowerShell or CMD script to shutdown the server and schedule for a specific time.
@buder51167 жыл бұрын
is because i want to wake it up when i need it, i dont need a 24/7 server, its for casual stuff, the biggest problem is i can't use another os with a 4 processor server :S I guess i gotta wire a external button to turn it on :S
@NLBSolutions7 жыл бұрын
Got you covered on this one - iLO / DRAC.
@buder51167 жыл бұрын
iLO / DRAC. are they os alike ? seem prety technical give me a pointer ?
@NLBSolutions7 жыл бұрын
Hi buder5, please check below: iLO makes it possible to perform activities on an HP server from a remote location. The iLO card has a separate network connection (and its own IP address) to which one can connect via HTTPS. Possible options are: • Reset the server (in case the server doesn't respond anymore via the normal network card) • Power-up the server (possible to do this from a remote location, even if the server is shut down) • Remote system console (in some cases however an 'Advanced license' may be required for some of the utilities to work) • Mount remote physical CD/DVD drive or image • Access the server's Integrated Management Log (IML) • Can be manipulated remotely through XML-based Remote Insight Board Command Language (RIBCL) • Full command-line interface support through RS-232 port (shared with system), though the inability to enter function keys prevents certain operations iLO provides some other utilities like virtual media (CD, floppy), virtual power and a remote console. iLO is either embedded on the system board, or available as a PCI.
