Gerard is actually on antidepressants again. He has been for the last few years. I think he's changed his opinion. Depression can be a clinical problem, but no that you can get help and that you are not alone
@zach20426 жыл бұрын
teacup 4 Back in the pre-recovery time, he was self-medicating, perhaps that's why he thaught medication did not help: he wasn't using it in the right form... Anyways, I personally believe that allopathic medicine is never the best solution.

Yep. There’s chronic depression and situational depression. I have chronic. Meds can help for both. You may have to try a few before one really works but it’s worth a solid try because seriously, they saved my life. I was an insufferable person to myself and others before I was on meds and I was extremely self destructive, everything from actively choosing not to fulfill my responsibilities to cutting myself. I would not have been able to get out of it without meds and a lot of people are like me.

This is Gerard Way. One of the few greatest beings to ever live. he's actually been through that point in his life where he crumbled down to his worst state and it must be like hell for him every second of it. And he survived that he rose and climbed back up to overcome this hardship and he brought valuable lessons back with him. It's like he's been to hell and back that's what amazes me most and he experienced a lot of shits and he shares it with us like open up and spill it all out even his darkest memories and fuckkk he actually did thought he was going to die imagine that but look where he is now.GERARD WAY IS LIVING PROOF THAT NO MATTER HOW WORSE LIFE GETS, YOU NEVER LET IT PUT OUT THE FLAMES OF YOUR WILL TO LIVE DEAR GOD DEAR PLANET EARTH DEAR MILKY WAY DEAR UNIVERSE, I fucking love Gerard Arthur Way and I always will

This video makes me so happy, yet sad at the same time. It makes me happy because Gerard is one of my favorite people in the entire universe, he means so much to me and I care about him like a mother would a child, as creepy as that sounds. His voice, and just him as a person, has really helped me through some tough times, and I know it's like that for a lot of people. This also makes me sad because I feel so nostalgic while watching this, especially because Cancer was playing the entire time. It reminds me of when I spent the summer with my grandparents, and I was just getting into My Chemical Romance, and I would stay up until the birds were chirping just watching live videos and interviews and funny moments. I'm glad Gerard's better, and I'm glad he decided to start a band, and I'm glad he got that gut feeling that the band was gonna work because if he hadn't, there wouldn't be mcr, and there wouldn't be Hesitant Alien or .stomachaches. or Electric Century, or whatever Ray's doing, and they wouldn't have saved so many lives. Wow this whole thing is really corny but I don't even care.
@jordanburrell500210 жыл бұрын
I wanted to clarify what I think Gerard meant when he said there was something romantic about self destruction because some people are getting the wrong idea. Self destruction is romantic not in a good way especially if it involves drugs or addiction of some kind. Let's say your drinking too much you need to be drunk so you can feel okay but you know you're doing something horrible to yourself. You want to stop by you might feel like you can't. It's like being in a relationship with someone who you know isn't good to you. You might stay with them because you love them and you're so dedicated to them that you'll let them hurt you as long as you can still be together. I don't think he was trying to promote self harm or self destruction of any kind. He said what he felt. The whole purpose of the band was to make us feel understood and I think when he makes claims like that it just makes it even more clear.

I adore and respect Gerard as much as anyone else. But just a friendly reminder: just because pre-recovery Gerard thought there was something romantic about self destruction, doesn't make it okay to adopt those thoughts yourself! There is nothing beautiful or sweet or romantic about self destruction in any way, shape, or form. Look at how much he's changed, from then to now, and use that as you're inspiration. Sorry, I have no idea where I was trying to go with this comment.
@baileyannabella10 жыл бұрын
Your*. Well that's embarrassing. I must have made an error in my rage typing xD
@gatsbysdead10 жыл бұрын
and, just to add on top of that, just because Gerard Way says not all anti-depressants are bad, there is no shame in getting help if you're having a serious medical issue. Anti-depressants aren't bad, and they don't have to turn you into a zombie if you talk with your doctor and work on finding one that works. If you need help FUCKING GET HELP!
@onomatopoeia941410 жыл бұрын
I think what he meant is that he was romanticizing self destruction, like that he thought he was destined to suffer. I think a lot of artists feel that way, that there is a perverted kind of beauty in tragedy and self abuse, but it takes a lot of strength to fight through that romanticism and survive.

man i haven't seen this interview in almost 10 years and i was really thrown when he started talking about anti-depressants so negatively, i had completely forgotten he used to think that. it's really cool that he's said in more recent interviews that he's in a much better place now, and on anti-depressants that actually work for him. obviously anti-depressants don't work for everyone, but the idea that they take away who you are or change your personality is bullshit. i am more myself on my meds now than i ever was off them when i was sleeping 14+ hours a day, not eating, just waiting for time to kill me off.

Gerard, I don't know if you will ever read this, but you are beautiful. Your message and your music and the way you changed your life. Your message about drugs (like antidepressants) stripping you of your identity really hit home with me. Same here, I'd hardly ever take cold medicine or anything like that unless it was severe enough. My (thankfully minor) depression is controllable without meds, and even if I did try to take meds for it, I would no longer be me. "Me" is both sad and happy, successful but lonely, and alone but together. I at one time didn't think I would live to graduate high school (I had a pretty awful childhood as well), and here I am in college with a 3.99 gpa. I can identify with your struggle and your progress. I may not be a fan of your new music, but what I can appreciate is how you change and grow, and follow what makes you happy. I wish I had discovered you sooner! So, for my parting words, I have but to say stay beautiful and happy, keep living your life, and above all, you do you. Now we can both say "Trust me, "I'm Okay (I Promise)." :)

Feeling so shit recently cos of all the things going on in my life, then I remembered this interview, and I came to watch it. I honestly cannot express my gratitude towards my chemical romance for helping me through times like these.

This inspires me so much. My biggest fear is being nothing, so it's really great to hear that someone who is really successful felt the same way.This video makes me feel like I'm not alone. Gerard Way thank you for inspiring me everyday.

from 2:00 to 3:00 in this video... especially just that first bit where he says he was addicted to self destruction and there's something very romantic about that... that part was the beginning of the end for me as a 14 year old. I heard him say that back then and that's a big reason I allowed myself to try self harming.
