What a time capsule, what a walk down memory lane, and what a joy to watch. One of my favorite parts of this video is your commentary... I was there for this whole time period but you still taught me some behind-the-scenes facts and trivia. You're still so genuine, and just a model human being. I loved your Maple Treeway reminiscing especially, it reminded me of when I got into TT'ing the game: after discovering the game had online leaderboards, I went and drove Maple Treeway fiercely, making it into the top 10 American regional records with a 2'25"xxx. I still remember how proud and happy I was seeing my name on the leaderboard, even calling my mom into the room to show her. Maple was my first taste of competitive time trialing, and it's good to see you still hold that fondness for the track. I appreciate all your kind words to myself and the rest of the players of the time... but more than that, I appreciate you. Thank you so much for everything, Nick. Past, present, and future. 19:59 I haven't seen Nick express such pure, uncensored nostalgia in a while. It's such a small detail, but when it's a game as important to our lives as MKW, it's those tiny things that we notice. For me, I'm like that whenever I see the optimized elevator glitch for the Coconut Mall ultra. It just takes me back to 2013, with 9 year old me bouncing off the column, failing to glitch into the elevator and falling on the solid floor. It happened about 100 times, but I managed to get it once!

getting a wr these days take years of practice. Wrs were always tough to get but as the game was still relatively new, It seemed like you could wake up everyday and the leaderboards have changed. can only imagine the excitement with Nmeade and others in the community back then, playing incessantly, trying to innovate the game further and get records.

Although none of these runs hold up by today's standards, they evoke nostalgia and fond memories of friendship, competition, and a simpler life. I think we can all relate to that. The youtube algorithm knows me well, but I'm a bit late to the party! The whole video is a nostalgic wonderland, truly the glory days of MKW - both before the records became overly optimised in the CTGP era, and before the cheaters had arrived. I still pay attention to the new MKW and MKDD records, but haven't played either for years. The MKDD mod scene has shown promise recently, so could see myself getting back into that if online 8 player GP races become a thing ;) MKW is becoming somewhat of a cult classic, and it will live on for many years to come thanks to what you and many others have done for this game Nick. Thank you for the work you put into these videos

Nice to see you uploading again Nick! i wasn’t around then, but ever since I started playing this game a while ago, I’ve been obsessed with looking at the wr progression of the 32 tracks. all these wrs were great in their own time before further innovations and improvements. I always wonder what all these players are doing these days. I feel kind of sad looking at the old comments and old channels and seeing nothing in years. But that’s the life ain’t it? Nothing lasts forever. just gotta have fun while it lasts.

Dude, 2009-2016 was my fav time of time trials! So many names were on the leaderboards encouraging me to have fun doing TT (even though I'm not close to any WRs). I remember on GV2 and BC Wii I could never pb w/Flame Runner, so I used the Flame Flyer. I obviously got better and improved via bike, but the early TTs is why I enjoy TTs most!

I miss it when like half the top 10 were Japanese. Most just moved onto MK8 and 8DX. they don’t play modded stuff as much and unsurprisingly with language barrier, a lot are unaware of Wiimmfi/CTGP. plenty still play online but there’s not really much interest from the new JP community with TTs, specifically the lesser technical tracks. some of the times on the JP top 10s are ancient lol.
