@@Thisrandomguyonline Good question! In the description of this video, you will find a link that will take you to my book recommendations. There, I listed two books about the Pirc (main line with g6 and Bg7). Now, when I first prepared the Pirc, I did it using a Chess encyclopedia. This is basically pages of lines without any explanation - nothing like a book. Then, by reviewing games of other players and playing it myself, I understood it better. These two books I am recommending were brought to my attention by one of my students who would consult me any time he found a line he wanted to go deeper into. I ended up buying them, but I only reviewed specific chapters to assist him and I can tell the information is well presented and clear. If I had to pick one, I would pick the one by James Vigus. If you get any, let me know what you think.

Thanks Brian! It is certainly easier when you have some guidance throughout the opening and even sometimes the middlegame. The key is to keep playing and studying it until you fully understand it. Whenever you have time, watch lesson # 57. You will learn how to play against one of the most dangerous variations your opponent can choose against the Czech Pirc, but more importantly, you will learn how you can atudy any opening.

@@NMRobertRamirez, after move 11 for white, I see that you responded with cxd5. Would you have done that if white had their knight on c3? The timestamp I'm referring to is about 9:45 - thank you!

Hey Brian! Good question. As a general rule, I try not to break on d5 when their knight is on c3. And of course, whenever that knight is not on c3, doing d5 immediately comes to mind I if the timing is right I would do it. In this specific position you refer to, I would not mind if his knight was there because if he took with his knight on d5 then I take with my knight from f6. If instead he takes his bishop first, even better for me since he is giving up his fianchetto bishop. Does this make any sense?

Absolutely. Do not forget that Nb5 is what we call a one-move threat. We can easily attack that knight by doing a6 and he wasted a tempo at the end of the day.

Thank you for your kind words, Muhammad! And yes, that's my philosophy as well -the most important thing is middle and endgame training. I am sure most of your games are decided in those stages instead of in the opening. Once you get more advanced, you might dedicate more time to opening training. Truth is that after a while you will feel like you need to add another opening to your repertoire, but that's okay. At that point you will have a really good foundation on middle and endgame. Maybe by then you start looking into the regular Pirc (lesson # 69) and the King's Indian Defense (lesson # 85) 👍

Nice tutorial. I paused the video at 12:12 where you moved your bishop back which was being double threatened by whites king & bishop. When you did that, you threatened his queen with your bishop but also had a queen check on the open file with whites king. Is there any particular reason why you did not take that check & subsequently take his queen on the next move?

@@NMRobertRamirez You are correct. Around 12:12 you moved bishop to threaten his queen on G3. He moved his queen & you had an opportunity to discover check with your queen on H5. Still a good move but I think you had checkmate in 4 if you had taken that queen check on H5 after he moved his queen. Again very good information, that I've started applying to how I play. I do have one question, does the Pirc only work from the queen side? I experimented with that idea last night & it nearly worked bcuz from the King side, I sacraficed a lot of pieces but it somewhat compromised black bcuz not many pieces were developed. I didn't win that way but it made a very interesting match.

@4:35 would it have worked to play Nd6 to try for getting a Rook for the price of the Bishop on d3?

Hello Stevie! It would have been interesting, but they could have moved the rook and then our knight would have to retreat eventually when they attack it 👍

Hello Roland! As you move up the ladder, stronger opponents will make it difficult for you to gain an advantage using this system vs 1.d4 since it ia meant to be played vs 1.e4. However, as you continue through this course, you will learn other openings such as the King's Indian Defense in lesson # 85 👍

I am a beginner. At 3:48 Why not take the Knight with the whit queen when black did not take the queen then depending on black next move Queen to E5 and either swap queens there or take Black queen with Knight during exchange or with Bishop if Black takes Knight ?

Noob question. How come in ratings climbs you get a hundred rating points or more for a win or loss but in my games I only get about 6 to 10 depending on the strength of my opponent? Is it a Blitz game thing? I only play longer time controls. Love your content by the way especially the repetition which helps me remember the lesson!
@NMRobertRamirez
@NMRobertRamirez 3 жыл бұрын
Hello John! Thanks for your nice words 👍 You get such climbs when you just opened an account. After a few games, it slows down to about 8 points or so.

@@NMRobertRamirez I moved Be6 kind of without thinking, white could've taken c6 too, after Qxb7, maybe Nd7 would've been better? But I still finish my development and stay up a pawn, but he went back to b2 so that worked out ha!

Why not play 1.Nf3 as white for the czech? Does the order matter that early? I'm thinking at my lower levels that black will assume a mouse slip with 2.d3 and not expect a studied mainline trap around move 4. Great video - thanks for making the concepts easy to understand.
