Great Video, again. To read BER (Beyond Economical Repair) on top of the device, that's really funny! BER is as well the designator for our infamous "new" Berlin Airport.. which was for many years over budget, over time, and needed a lot of changes / repairs before they could finally open it. A complete fail in Project Management, as politicians again thought, they should interfere and could do it better than companies, engineers, P.M.s. Fraport AG, our biggest, Frankfurt based airport company in Germany basically is doing the same, i.e. building a new terminal III, but they manage to keep the timeline and budget, as far as one can judge from outside. This political interference on technical development / solutions (Energy, Climate Change, ...) is the new German Disease, ruining our whole country.

Modifying these units and fitting a nice tft inside would be nice. Then you can add features like showing graphs und plots.

I don't believe the chip was a problem ! How did it make it this far ? and besides it was electrically sound IMHO ! but at the end of the day great video and great result !....cheers.

11:19 i guess that the frontpanel pcb has a little flex and due the years of use ,that ribbon connector get squeezed between the frontpanel and the edge of the mainboard each time the front buttons are used, after time this connector got partially squeezed out.

Hi Ian, I scored a PM3000A from the scrap bin this year. It had a flat internal battery. It kind of works but as you operate the front panel, the display becomes corrupted. Do you know of any programming software to connect to the instrument?

If you look at the datasheet for the PM3000A it has options on the rear panel, but there is also Voltech software available, see VPAS software.

I tried looking at their website before, I contacted them and CalTest, I can find the VPAS manual on their site but no download for the exe.

I saw on their site it says the software isn't available for new sales which kinda looks like it should be available for existing owners......the software keyed to your actual unit.

In some companies the engineers will sabotage their gear, or mark it as BER......just to get new gear from management......apparently!
