I made a trip solo with my little dog Cooper from Rota Spain to Olhao Portugal last month in my Cornish Shrimper 19 (916). In 5 days coverd 200 miles stopped in 4 different ports for the night. Longest sail that trip was Isla Canela Spain back home to Rota Spain 60 miles in 12 hours. Had a consistent 15 to 20 knot on my stern a great day. Think my avg speed that day was 5.2 knots which was amazing for a shrimper 19. I have the inboard and use a Simrad TP10 to help with steering. Have a lot of pictures only took one video. Great trip you made and enjoyed the video.

A lovely couple of days on the water. I'm always surprized at how few people sail on jib/genoa alone it really does make the boat easy to handle in a following wind.

The adage that the best time to put a reef in is the first time you wonder if you might need to reef soon, is so true. I replaced the bolt that holds the boom to the swivel joint with an M10 eye bolt and then used an eye (ring) nut on the other end. This gives a simple port and starboard fairlead for the two reefing lines and means they do not snag at the clew no matter how furious the sea/weather. A bit of locktite if you're super cautious.

Really very nice to have somebody planned the trip in front of you to show the tides in the wind and how do use it and your advantage to get to where are you going? Thank you👍

Really enjoyed that, particularly the chart inputs. I have watched so many sailing videos with absolutely no context, particularly frustrating as I know the south coast of the UK and the north and west coast of France so well. In this case it was interesting to retrace a trip I did possibly 40 years ago in a Hurley 22 that had an inboard/outboard that constantly choked itself on its own exhaust fumes😳😊

Me again 😀 We have always loved Shrimpers and I have just spent an interesting half an hour looking at brokers sites. One thing that I can’t grasp is that many have a small cover over the cockpit well. I can only think that this is for rain … a full cover would obviously protect … er … more. Does this mean that the cockpit isn’t self-draining? And, er again, where does THAT water go?
@Morningvicar
@Morningvicar Жыл бұрын
Hi. The mk1 cockpit is not self draining. Rain water sits under the cockpit grating and you pump it out with the bilge pump. I can’t imagine much spray or driving rain whilst sailing could cause a problem, I’ve never had to do more than 5/6 pumps and In reality, what little rain finds it’s way under the cover nicely rinses the dinghy I store under there.

Thanks for another really restful & relaxing video. Crazy kayakers eh!? No wonder surfers call them "goat-boarders". Just because they float around in a palindrome doesn't mean they are immortal. What's the next adventure? It's back to strimming for me. God, I hate gardening. Chin-chin.

Many thanks. Kayakers are indeed crazy... but at least they're not Jetskiers. My next adventure starts tonight; Off to watch the start of the Fastnet race.

Hi - another interesting video! I have a question - how much play do you have betwen the mast and tabernacle? On my shrimper it seems excessive but it may be normal. There is probably about 5 mm of free play on each side, which seems a lot to me.
@Morningvicar

That sounds about the same as me. I had thought of putting spacers in the to fill the gap but have never bothered. It doesn’t seem like a problem tbh.
