Thank you for this very interesting video (the regatta "from inside"). Funny to look at an english video... and to see (several times) a breton boat (Le Grand Léjon) !🙂

I’m glad you enjoyed it. It was a privilege to sail alongside Le Grand Léjon.

Such a detailed video for anyone interested in making boat like this really go! Exciting stuff - and useful for (not!) racing. Thank you for making and sharing.

Nice! That looked like a lot of fun. And congratulations on the win. Been half thinking of racing, and now I'm really tempted.

You should! but what i didn't show was the state of the cabin afterwards. i'm still tidying up.

You should. Good way to test skills and your boats ability.

Absolutely fantastic work. Been considering a Shrimper 19 for while, this has made my mind up. Rarely do I manage to watch a video post without skipping sections, hey, not this one. Commentary as interesting as the camera work.😀😀😀😀😀😀

What a lovely 31 mins to watch! You 3 are a good crew for this event. Btw, 'sending it'...a familiar phrase in my household as well. A sign that you're around hardcore dinghy sailors.

I really, really loved that. Totally underestimated boats, in my view. Maybe the last reef would have prevented some of the weather helm upwind? Would having the traveller further up windward make it point higher?
@Morningvicar3 ай бұрын
Yes, another reef would have made it a lot more comfortable upwind and no slower. We were overpowered upwind but underpowered downwind, we didn’t want to think about reefing between legs. Would have been a different story if we weren’t trying to win 😊

Excellent. I’m sure I remember Morning Vicar from Emsworth circa 2004/5. Owned by Rodney? Is this the same boat. I sailed Greenshank (350) at the time.
@Morningvicar3 ай бұрын
It is indeed, sold to a new owner in Chichester Harbour then on to me in 2021.

That was thrilling! Beautiful shot of the French lugger 😊following around the marker. I’m enjoying your videos very much, but every time I check your channel stats I find I’ve been unsubscribed, and your subscriber count seems to have decreased.

thanks for watching, glad you liked it. it is interesting, each time i upload a video, i intstantly lose 3 or 4 subscribers. Its become a joke in our house

By the way, how on earth did you get all those camera shots - especially the panning shots (e.g. 8:40) - whilst you three seemed to be fully occupied with sailing ? Was there a secret camera operator on board?
@Morningvicar4 ай бұрын
360 camera, captures everything. you can then pan, zoom etc afterwards. you can see it on the companionway hatch from the gopro (actualy a dji) shots from the stern.
@tobygoessailing4 ай бұрын
@@Morningvicar Thanks, had no idea about that. Must look into it .

Thank you, a wonderful video! btw, I just wondered how you managed the panning and zooming; it was so effective but I didn't see a remote, how do you do it? And by the way Congratulations!!
@Morningvicar4 ай бұрын
Thank you. We had 5 cameras onboard, a phone each, a DJI action camera on the flagpole and a 360 light field camera on the hatch. The 360 captures everything and you can zoom and pan etc afterwards.

Are you going to the Southampton boat show in September again?
@Morningvicar4 ай бұрын
I certainly will be.
@cornishshrimpersailing55614 ай бұрын
Great video!, which speed could you achieve close to the wind?
@Morningvicar4 ай бұрын
according to navionics, the highest up wind speed was 5.3kts but most of the time it was around 4.5kts. pretty sure a lot of that was sideways :)
@Morningvicar4 ай бұрын
interestingly, starboard beat was about 10% faster. i'm putting that down to the outboard being out of the water. next year i'm taking it out completely
@cornishshrimpersailing55614 ай бұрын
Yes i can imagine that, i also can notice more speed, with centerboard up, wenn sailing with the wind till half wind. Btw are you coming over for the ISW this week in the Netherlands?

alas, i'm back at work

great resolution & clarity on this video btw. what camera are you using?
@Morningvicar4 ай бұрын
It was a mixture of IPhone, DJI action cam and an Insta360.
