For as much as he half assed this meal(understandably, bc he was so tired) the finished product actually looks pretty enjoyable. We really need a way to record and broadcast scents, that would make cooking shows SO MUCH BETTER.

In Spain that crispy rice at the bottom is called 'socarrat' or "scorched" but it is the seat of all flavors within Spanish paella so I think Masaru just discovered pseudo paella all on his own

I think rediscovered is a better term, I’m sure he has had plenty of burnt rice before just like he has had spring onions but he rediscovered the flavour in his cooking because he hadn’t tasted it in a while.

i mean its a common thing in japan as well as basically everywhere rice is eaten - in japan it's called okoge

scorched rice is common in korea as a snack too. im asian but i dont know why they would even eat something that gets stuck on their teeth
