The second-ranked Iowa women’s basketball team came away with a 111-93, conference win against Penn State on Thursday night inside a sold-out Carver-Hawkeye Arena. Iowa improved to 22-2 on the season and 11-1 in conference play.
Hannah Stuelke broke the CHA record with a career-high 47 points, shooting 17-20 from the field, adding nine rebounds. All-American Caitlin Clark, tied the CHA record with a career-high 15 assists and 27 points. Kate Martin recorded a double-double with 16 points and a career-high 16 rebounds. It was Martin’s sixth career double-double and fourth of the season.
Penn State led from the start closing out the first with a, 25-23 lead with Stuelke leading all scoring with 10 points. The Hawkeyes responded in the second scoring 32 points, shooting 60% from the field to go into halftime with a 55-44 lead. Clark led the second quarter with 16 points.
The Nittany Lions made some noise in the third quarter despite Stuelke’s 13 points, going on a 9-0 run, to cut the lead to 14. Sydney Affolter sunk a three at the end of the third to give Iowa the momentum going into the fourth.
Stuelke finished out the game with 10 points in the fourth, scoring 10+ points in three quarters. Affolter dominated on defense adding 10 rebounds.
The Hawkeyes have topped 105 points three straight years against the Nittany Lions (107 in 2022 and 108 in 2023). The 111 points are the most Iowa has have scored against Penn State and tie for the second most in school history (115 vs. Evansville in 2023).

- With 54.3 seconds to go, Hannah Stuelke broke Carver-Hawkeye Arena’s all-time record for scoring in a single game and Caitlin Clark tied the arena record for most assists in a single game.

Typical game by Iowa from what I’ve seen. Let the other side play close in the 1st and then zoom, Iowa in transition pulls away. And clearly Iowa totally in synch with Hannah Stuelke - pick & roll, get the ball into Stuelke for whom Penn St had no answer. Did you notice Gabbie Marshall’s early “leaping cat” block?

Stuelke is just a sophomore? Yes, she is great fun to watch play the game. Strong, quick, skilled, smart. Look out for the next 2 years. These refs are letting a lot of fouls go that should be called, both ways. I also see a lot of ball carrying, on the dribble, but it's not nearly as bad as in the NBA. I can kind of let that go, in my own mind. I am old school, buy the way, almost extremely, old school.

They had a 20 plus lead of course the defense isn’t gonna be the same over the course of the game. Also a lot fouls were called in this game which lead to both teams scoring a lot.

This was a trap game and almost became exactly that. So many turnovers, very sloppy. Iowa was lucky they out gunned them. Stuelke... need to work more on free throws! Had you made half the ones you missed, we don't go into OT at Columbus
