3:50 I agree with this wholeheartedly. They should make every map have a turf war version to serve as the foundation so players can get a good feel of the general layout. Then for their specific modes the devs can add to the maps they are specifically made for

Ngl, I kinda wanna see the old inkzooka shot. Having the tornado shot but reworked in a way would fix trizooka’s jank spiral shot, plus being able to hit higher over walls would be cool, and it gives counterplay by hiding behind cover better. Plus, think about it, shooting tornadoes out of a gun is really badass

Yeah aesthetically I loved zooka and the ability to technically have a special for 60 seconds tops (Rainmaker 1) sounds very fun (could be in a challenge in the next game, I'd like to see and use it)

I agree with the weapon reworks sooo much ... and clash blaster is imo the best example for something that needs to change drastically. it's gimmick - fast shots with bicc radius - is both boring AND bad because it absolutely needs bad damage and direct range to make it not too obnoxious... and 1 other rework that I thought about for quite a while now would be on gootuber. if squiffer can charge shots midair - and if it's supposed to be the "aerial mobility" charger (or something) why not make gootuber able to charge while swimming? a big buff like that would REALLY give it its own identity while at the same time this gives a ton of new options for number tweaks to adjust the weapons power level: if it can charge while swimming well maybe it should have a slightly slower charge while doing that... maybe its charge hold is a little shorter if you charged up while swimming at some point, maybe your partials can't 1-shot if you charged to that point inside your ink etc.

@probablygeneric429 sadly this would have the same problem my biggest wish for hybrid weapons would have. 🙃 I would really Like a splatana/roller hybrid based off a window cleaner. But how would we have a chargable slash and a roll at the same time with the current Button Layout? And gootuber can't charge hold through specials that last longer than 5 seconds, or specials where you need to press ZR again.

I hate that I learned about how in most video games shotguns are supposed to be broken, but in real life, they’re not. So what Nintendo did heavily nursing it made it more accurate

It's quite the opposite actually. Most games nerf the efective range of shotguns because irl a shotgun has enough range and power to kill anything in middle range and still make significant damage at longer distances Imagine a gun that can one shot in middle without even ads 💀

Shotguns in video games have always been made trash. They're effective 75-150yrds depending on ammo type. Only in games can u not shoot a good across the street because the bullets dissapear... Which is something I've always disagreed with because seldom does the close range power make up for it. I'd rather the bullets do no dmg but still fling or knock back.

@@DosDeAsada69 VERY boring. while I think things like artillery that can reach dozens of miles and aircraft-launched missiles that can reach well over the horizon are awesome, they would be kind of boring for the general masses to play with a video game. Despite being a history nerd, it’s actually why I’m completely fine with the almost Cold War-level ranges we typically see.

Yeah. Cooler has made it so much easier for people to jump out. I still saw people trying to jump out in S2 (myself even), but only half of the time they'd get away because it wasn't instant.

I've got a few ideas for those last two takes: Aerospray: I feel having a continuous cone shot would work really well and fit with the theming of the weapon. It'd help with its RNG problem by essentially being one big bullet instead of a bunch of small, really unreliable bullets. Recycle Brella 24: I'm gonna combine the take on it in this vid with one in another. Make it a one-shot at closer range AND give it double shields. Big Swig Roller: Horizontal flick one-shot. Like, come on, there should be ZERO reason why the vertical flick can one-shot and the horizontal flick can't. Goo Tuber: I personally love the double ring they added in that tells you when you'll one-shot someone. Probably the only thing I'd change is just make it charge faster. Splattershot Nova: Going off of the space gun theme here. I think a smart way to go about this is have the shots fly straight forward, unaffected by gravity. Literally make this thing DEFY THE LAWS OF GRAVITY. Undercover Brella: More damage and more durablility are the only things I can think of. Rainmaker: Kamehameha. Literally just make it a Kamehameha. We already have the Spirit Bomb, now we must have funny laser beam attack.

I would agree with the take about super jumping if S3's stages weren't dogwater. Jumping out is basically the only way to actually mitigate how awful a lot of them feel, even with the few "flanks" that some of them have. I think if the devs actually do plan on removing spawn-jumping as a whole they need to make better maps, and that's definitely not happening anytime soon Edit: typos

Clash is definitely annoying but honestly, Bloblobber is worse. At least with Clash you actually go into battle. Unlike blob where you just sit there and let your shots parry off the walls and spam ink storm (especially annoying on Brinewater and Mahi). I love Splatoon 2 but man did it add some stupid weapons 😭

Hot take: Squid rolls and Squid Surges should always prevent one-shots on your first one in a row, regardless of the source. Of course, the armor and speed of squid rolls decrease per roll, so you couldn't just dodge two trizooka directs in a row, and squid surges are too slow to spam like squid rolls, even with IA. I think it would be a balanced system for a perfect parry, rather than the janky, laggy, 10% chance squid rolls have to maybe work and block a single Nova shot like they do now. Plus squid surges just need armor to be viable, with how risky they are. A speed buff wpuld also be great for them, making them faster than spamming jump is another change, albeit not a "hot take" by any means.

@@MeloniestNeon I don't think the issue with Squid Roll is that it doesn't prevent one-shot bombs and special weapons from working on you. It allows you to survive all main weapon one-shots and if it was more consistent at doing that then you would have the same issue as Ink Armour in Splatoon 2 where those weapons mostly just didn't work. For example squid roll creates a lot of problems with Dynamo Roller where the attack is telegraphed to give people time to parry. I think instead perhaps the armour from Squid roll/surge could be a 100hp barrier that regenerates a bit slowly, and isn't destroyed by any hit. This means you can't parry multiple one-shot attacks, but in return you can tank multiple weak hits during a single squid roll/surge. To add to this the duration of the armour could be a bit longer and last for a few frames if you end the animation early, making Squid surge actually useful.

Main weapon shots do damage according to what the attacker sees while most bombs and specials do damage according to the target's screen. This is mostly the reason for how armor from surges and rolls works, the armor hasn't been there for the attacker. And even then when the armor has been there for the attacker for some frames, they can still often get shots in/a kill, maybe the jankiness here is that if there's enough desync, the target can block a charger shot with armor. It's not because a charger would have been programmed to kill regardless of armor, it's the desync combined with attacker favored attacks and the peer to peer connection splatoon uses

@arttukettunen5757 I'm aware of that, what I mean is that I'd prefer it to be a guaranteed damage block regardless, or as the other reply suggested, an additional bit of armor HP. I rarely see people in any situation except a competitive LAN blocking shots with squid rolls, and surges have armor, but its so minute its basically not even noticeable.

2:13 exactly why I want third kits. I want to play a booyah bomb weapon but there isn't much varity with the weapons that currently have them. They're all slow or not good. The dualie class suffers too with 3 dualies having reefslider and splashdown.

Honestly i think Superjumping away is Fine if you cant handle a 1v3 or 1v4 Fight which is supet useful but as a Competitive player if you wanna survive longer and want to continue the Fight then yeah Clutching is real in Splatoon

2:00 Honestly this issue ended up being compounded with how late the new specials were added. A lot of the last few kits we got felt like they only got their specials (and sometimes subs) to fill out a check box of “do we have X number of Y” so many of them feel un-synergistic

Tacticooler needs to be brought back down to earth. If close to 0 consequences for dying and obscene stat buffs are needed to make the game feel good. Then the game balance is essentially relying on a massive crutch to keep itself upright, and changes across the board are needed. If it isn't needed then that's just a ridiculously broken and polarizing special that needs serious nerfs. To clarify I don't think the special needs to be gutted I think it should be a solid option, but not a requirement.

Maps woth different rainmakers would be cool. A rainmaker that gives you Old Stingray or Bomb Rush might be fun to play around... with some tweaks.

Honestly regarding rainmaker not feeling fun to shoot: it's called the Rainmaker so redesign it and make it a gatling gun I say, it creates the feeling of it being powerful without instakill explosions or the jank that was S1 rainmaker shot

7:09 Personally I think a good change to better distinguish the Goo Tuber from other chargers is this: make all chargers retain their charge for longer, and then give Goo Tuber a unique perk where while it's shots aren't as damaging (probably a 2 or 3 shot kill), it will be able to apply a status fitting for its namesake, applying gooey sticky ink that can slow down enemies and allow them to be picked off by either the Tuber or their teammates, really helping so that the best player in any given lobby doesn't completely run away with the game and they have to play around the fact they could get tagged and slowed at any time

1:35 Has someone who five starred both shot kit minus the replicas. I do not want missiles that is just on fun. I would rather either have ink jet as a reference to its T-shot kit or Splatoon 2 vanilla shot kit. Burst bomb I think would be great especially for the new map design.

My hot take is that the weapon kit system needs to be entirely removed and replaced with a loadout system. Main, Sub, and Special, mix and match as you please. The simple fact of the matter is, comp is gonna play the hyper consistent playstyle all day every day, casuals are gonna play whats fun. Mix and Match everything, if only for one game, and let people decide whats good, whats bad, and whats unhealthy for Nintendo (so if they do begin limiting this in the next game, they'll know what to avoid.) There WILL be broken combinations. There WILL be some unfun combinations. Most players will not see these combinations. Especially assuming if Nintendo just entirely retires problematic specials like missiles, just like they did with stingray.

Bucket burst bomb says hi I think that weapons should just get 3 subs and 3 specials to mix and match to avoid broken combos and making gimmicky options not required (I want my splat bomb/zipcaster bucket). Balancing is not just for casuals or just for comp players. I think the meta would be a nightmare to balance and incredibly stale. Fully custom kits would be cool in private battles though

I think that having the ability to jump back to spawn is a good thing that can be beneficial for the game, but quick super jump/tacticooler jumping shouldn't affect it. I like it as an option to get out and land in a garunteed safe space but maybe one that's slower and more difficult to pull off than jumping to a teamate

I think they should make it possible that every weapon kit should have access to an utility sub and a bomb so in this way would let them create more creative utility subs to different play styles and maps like imagine a sub that is a mini gusher or a sub that’s a mini cooler drink without the QR effect of course

Not having third kits for the sake of balancing is an awful take because half the weapons are literally outclassed by 1 thing. Balance is clearly not a priority. Even if you argue some weapons should be better than others due to difficulty to learn them, you still have things like carbon with 1 kit vastly easier and better than the other.

Honestly, I was insanely disappointed with splatoon 3. I started playing splatoon around the middle of splat 2's lifetime and I was obsessed since, and when the updates ended I was craving splatoon 3 like nothing else. But the lack of 3rd kits made the game just too stale. I had 4 thousand hours in splatoon 2 and only 300 hours in splatoon 3 because... there's just not much kit variety. I hope they add more kits soon or announce splatoon 4

ADD A FIRING MODE SWITCH BUTTON. This would make so many weapons like ballpoint and brella feel better to use without the jank of holding a button for some arbitrary time.

6:00 i actually think the weapon with the best dart synergy is explo - it technically combos, for if you ever land it -it tracks, which is explos favorite thing -Its the cheapest sub, meaning explo can actually use it -most importantly, it paints feet instantly, so you dont have to use the horribly slow main weapon

Recycle should get instand shield regeneration (unless when broken by damage ofc) and be able to have two launched on the map. Launching a third one destroys the first,just like with sprinkler.

Hot take. I think Splatoon 3 should get another year of content, around the launch of the Switch 2. It'd give players more stuff to do, on top of giving more time for the dev team to work on the next Splatoon game.

As far as another synergistic weapon Angle Shooter would be good on, I think it'd be great on Undercover Brella since it's basically the same as one direct shot from the main weapon that has MUCH longer range at the expense of costing more ink, which would help a lot when you manage to land 2 directs but then get kited by a weapon with longer range. The tracking also helps with the canopy respawn mechanic. But they didn't give us a kit with it.

as someone who plays vanilla undercover, this could only really work if it was paired with something like slider but since slider is already on vunder, the only other option is TSD. Which is close range + already on recycled + a stupid panic special that I DO NOT want to see on any more 'good' weapons

The slow speed and ink hungry nature I think would make it way worse, rapid also prefers more open maps where darts are easier to connect.

There's synergy, and then there's "let's turn this weapon into a single-kit menace that completely changes the playstyle and can, should and will be nerfed". There is a very good reason why Explosher doesn't have chip damage subs.

I'm coping with splat 3s problems by watching these videos and praying the devs do as well. I think if they can listen to what the fans want, while still making sure they make a balanced game (so like, not putting in op stuff bc fans want it) we might have a pretty decent, if not FANTASTIC splatoon 4. From what I've seen the splatoon fandom is pretty vocal about what they do/don't want, and I'm just hoping that the devs care just as much as we do

6:17 I actually think they should start COMBINING annoying weapons in bloated classes by taking the best qualities of multiple weapons to create a more evolved hybrid. I do fully understand how difficult that would be to balance (Squeezer and Ballpoint alone are perfect examples), but lore wise it actually would make a ton of sense for how the game changes over time, and I think could also make some really interesting weapons. Like could you imagine a Luna-Clash hybrid for example with a large blast radius that sped up in fire rate the longer you held the button, a Blob-Explo that you could charge to change the size of the resulting bubble explosion for a slower but larger shot, or a Nova-Jet that had pinpoint accuracy but took 5 shots to kill and definitely isn’t just S1 dual squelcher? I think the ideas are there and if Splatoon 4 wants to continue adding new weapons we also probably need to cut down the current roster, and I don’t know if just revamping the annoying weapons would do enough

My hot take on this game is simple. I wish there was more crossovers not just with Nintendo, but I actually had a concept idea for sonic which was which character type do you like the most which was speed, flight, and power. Not only that I wanted this one to be kind of like seasoned base and not just for the cosmetics, but also for the splat fest’s too. So instead of just past present and future we could’ve had which idol is better or of course, which town is better. Still love the game to death but again it could’ve done better with all the splat fests. Edit: I also wish that the rainmaker actually I didn’t like somewhat of a blaster version of mega man’s mega buster and you’re able to toss it to the next person if your in a pickle and just to have some sort of nerf to the maker no ink refilling.

Splatfest modes should have weapon matchmaking pools similar to X Battles. Turf War is meant to be a mode where anyone can win, so there is no point in adding them to normal Turf. But Splatfests are an event and shouldn't have that same privilege. At least they should do it for the solo que and Tricolor. Oh, and Tricolor should be replaced with ranked modes in Splatoon 4.

@@bossbrozork3022 I don’t know, I kind of like the HP subs and specials. Functionally removing splash walls and bubblers would kind of take something away from the diversity, in my opinion. Not to mention, as crass as I’m sure this sounds, not all of us are competitive players. Some of us just want to have fun. Finding a better way to balance them, on the other hand, is something I would wholeheartedly support.

I'm sure we all think that challenges need to be revamped to be available more often, but I think they should be open at all times. During the weekdays, they could have weaker challenges, like maybe you can only use a specific weapon or every weapon has the same sub, but during the weekends, they can be replaced with something crazier, like throwing Grizzco weapons into the mix or you get deployed from the side of the stage rather than the far end, and so on. They could just keep the rewards limited like they are now so that it doesn't intrude on people's will to play the other modes.

FWIW my hot take (as a dapple main) is that dapple should have got the quadruple dodge rolls instead of Tetra; Tetra is a long-range weapon so all of the extra mobility just feels weird on it. Dapple is a short-range weapon with high strafe speed so the four dodge rolls would really help compensate for its short range.

While i agree that angle shooter is usually a hinderance and its best kit is rapid pro deco, give that shit to dynamo with a crab tank. Gives dynamo a really fast movement tool, and a fast combo after its long swings

3:01 hey, there is synergy in some of these. White Tetras' Sprinkler has decent enough synergy with their poor inking, and the special is effectively a fighting game animation cancel that lead to a lot of cool tech to explore. And S2 Custom Blaster is just straight up good, ever since they made Curl explode against bubbles it's been a super underrated kit. Curl limits it a bit (deliberately so, they should've done the same with Foil Squeezer), but on a weapon that has very low paint but can move in straight lines well by itself, tossing it to paint a path for later while you go a different way expands its utility in an interesting and creative way. It's not necessarily turf control, but it is supply lines, easy to disrupt but useful when not. The rest of them have Splashdown. Splashdown synergizes with nothing. And whether the sub adds or removes depth depends on many factors. For something like Rapid that is a rather shallow weapon by itself, a sub like Torp can add options, but try putting it on something like Flux and suddenly you make options and weaknesses it already has irrelevant and consolidate its playstyle to the few very strong options, making it shallower as a result.

here is the literally hottest take ever to be spoken in this community that yall don’t want to admit bombs are broken on several levels AND NOT JUST BECAUSE THEY ARE ON SHOTERS OK THEY ARE BROKEN PERIOD they have unrivalled utility,damage and all the other things its insane how much you people defend them i get that they can be fun but be honest 99.9% of the time you spam them at choaks and thats it in 6 years of me playing splatoon I still believe bombs shud have been nerft into the ground YEARS AGO and even then they would still be beyond useful because thats how broken they truly are

You’re 100% right, but with the way the game is rn, bombs are kind of a necessary evil. As a close range weapon, there is not much you can do to against a backline that is guarding chokes (including mid) other than spamming bombs at their perch, hoping to create an opening. It’s especially bad in S3 due to the maps lacking good approach options for these weapons.

oh i absolutely agree that IN SPLATOON 3 bombs are a evil that we need HOWEVER I was mainly pointing out that this isn’t really exactly exclusive to 3 and i mean 2’s entire endgame was who could spam more bombs funnnnnnnnnn(a specialy when you play brela) so yea kinda yes we do need them rn but there is no excuse to not heavily nerf them when we get actual maps in splatoon 4(god nintendo give us actual flank’s) and also im mainly frustrated at how many people say utility subs are just worthless like yea im not in competitive yet im getting back there but jezz the sheer power of bombs destroyed the community perspective on other subs despite them being really good actually even mist can be great on something like 3-stringer because its a kiting weapon so you end up with 2 separate area of denial tools(dart is irredeemably bad tho) so basically they can’t be nerft which is dumb and also sad at the same time(except for fizzy for the love of god what were they thinking)

I'd like to propose a kit option since we all have a problem with them Instead of us waiting for the kit we want, why not give a set amount of options of every sub and special for every weapon. (3 max 2 min) Let's say a support weapon would get a point sensor,torp, and auto bomb, while its special options would be bubble screen and cooler. you could switch between those options at sheldons or in the menu, (not a fan of that idea) i feel it would ACTUALLY allow some kit freedom and gear freedom as you can still play the weapon you want and play it in the way you want, HOWEVER im a super casual and only play turf and salmon run, so maybe my idea is actually cancer. it sounds fun, tho especially if you had to unlock extra kit option in like salmon run or single player or just straight up buy them with in-game funds

I especially have problems with stages that have Tower Control routes going back to enemy territory (Crableg Capital) or porly thought out Rainmaker checkpoints , as those are simply failed stages and buffling how they aren't Private Battle only. It is long overdue that stages are limited to 2 Ranked modes each. And considering Rainmaker-shots I was surprised there wasn't a Modified Rainmaker Challenge with the S1 shot.

Hot Take: Dart is Not irredeemably Bad. I would argue Dart is actually what burst bomb is for many Others: a way to cheaply paint the feet. But instead of having a spammable AOE to Chuck at everything, its a pure utility tool, rewarding good aim with Location, giving any weapon scope Liter range, and, again, Painting your feet. Dart is Something that can be given to weapons, that would be too powerful with burst, without sacrificing much; the two cost the Same amount of ink, and have the Same paint. My favourite example of this is explosher. Oh Boy would it Like a burst bomb in Case of being rushed down, and Painting feet. and while burst bomb helps with both, Dart would be healthier, to keep the weapons weakness of slow Killtime intact. Or atleast i think so, because i dont Play competitive. Also, with Dart, someone a Lot better at the Game than me could probably get themselves Out of Trouble (without needing to jump Out) due to Darts seemingly Low Startup and endlag. The game should add more high risk-reward weapons. Indeed, in my opinion, these weapons are the ones that feel the most fun to play lile splatanas or even hydra. I think if we want to make the game more diverse, we need other weapons like these that feel distinct and rewarding to use. I m not just talking about kills though, in the game, most high risk de reward weapons have high killing power, but very few good painter weapons are risky, in my opinion. I think that should change

That’s the point though. If everything needs to be flattened down to the same relative effectiveness then you’ll lose so much variety and character. Something like burst bomb or crab tank just straight up can’t exist in a system with free choice, they’re too strong inherently.

This is interesting, i want to see maybe a change in one of the ranked mode is rainmaker, change rainmaker into a Inkstorm special weapon, and make this mode have only weapons only use weapons with ink storm, the rainmaker weapon change is the charge of the level of the ink storm, charge level 1 is the weak same old ink storm back in splatoon 2, charge level 2 is it will have the heal machanic and moves slow as a support part to make sure your team is safe while the enemies will have the same objective to stop the rain maker from getting to the goal and stop the rainmaker user on supporting the team, and charge level 3 will be like moves a little fast, covers area more, and also enemies hit by it are slow down like the toxic mist even out of the AOE, you will be slow unless you try to cover the area to with your own ink to recover and the debuff goes away

I just played overwatch over splatoon for the past few months and thought about how good for the game it is to have different health values for different heroes (weapons in s3). I think certain weapons should get more hp and some get less.

What if we brought back the old rainmaker shot but cut it‘s dmg down to like 60 unless it‘s a direct? Makes the rain feel less helpless to carry, but still makes it frail enough to get rushed

personally I wish they didn't release so many splatoon games in short succession. you get a few seasons, then the game stops getting supported and everybody moves on to the next installment. this sucks. this is why splatoon 1 was the best, you still had active players 8 years later. just compare it to the state of splatoon 2. and when splatoon 4 comes out, nobody will play splatoon 3 anymore. why get invested in a game if I can't play it for more than 2-3 years

Angle shooter would be a lot more interesting if the line before it's 1st bounce painted 💯. My only issue with the sub has always been it's wonky reticle but mainly it's lack of impact. Like yes, 30dmg is great, a mini sniper is great... but unless ur combo'ing it or finishing it has no use. So why not help it be a rush down tool. 30% for instant paint lines sound fair, and would make it better thsn the sub that kills it in a way; burst bomb

I don't know if this is a hot take, but I think they should either bring back MPU, or actually focus on weapons that have had a terrible history of being either nerfed into the ground, or sidelined indefinitely in order to balance them out and keep up with the rest of the weapons in the game, and the game itself as it's gotten much faster than it used to be with each new entry. I know MPU is controversial, but it carried a lot of flaws [from my understanding and research] that certain weaker weapons had and actually gave them a chance of viability, and just general enjoyment. Now that it's gone, it's impossible to ignore just how weak certain weapons are, and it's sad to see them never get picked up because they simply are not viable in Anyone's mind. I also think they shouldn't make broad sweeping nerfs to weapons that carry across all weapons, because that can lead to easily ruining what little viability or compatibility the weapons may have with their kits, or in long-term comp stuff. I recall burst bomb getting a nerf, so it costed a little more ink to throw? That meant you couldn't bomb spam on certain weapons, which was good. But for Stamp, and everyone I talked to who played it, that was bad, because that weapon is already pretty ink hungry apparently anyway. [Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, my memory is terrible.] I think in future games, the devs really need to take into account what weapons, subs, or specials they're actually nerfing and adjust them individually going forward. I'm pretty sure they've done it for Salmon Run [with Slosher ?], so there's no reason in my mind as to why they couldn't do it in general. Other than it being a little more time consuming.

I have a rather spicy one. Fuck zones only. Zones only should die in s4 The speed and diversity of situations in the other modes allow for more diverse metas and more diverse picks in the game, the fact that zones only exists as a tournament format in the first place is proof of poor design. If Nintendo cares about the competitive community(which it appears they do because it makes them a shit load of money) they will likely rework more modes to make zones only be put to bed.
