When writing doctor, what is that diacritic that you used under a? What do you call it and what it does to the given sound?

what is the diacritic under the first vowel in doctor? I would usually just write a backwards a to represent the o, like in pot. Maybe it's something to do with accents?

You probably made a mistake when transcribing the word doctor: it’s [ɑ̹], not [ɑ̜].

You're right--the perils of writing sideways! Thank you

I used to confuse the “less rounded” and “more rounded” diacritics a lot until I found the “more rounded” symbol looks really similar to [ɔ], which is a rounded vowel.
